Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Kairi glanced over in Noel's direction, seeing him nod and reply with "cool" before focusing on Serah. She looked across her husband to his Nobody, reaching a hand across Sora and touching Roxas's hand. Despite everything, she was happy to see him back to the Roxas she first met. "Good to have you back," she said with a small smile. Even if she was ticked at him still, Kairi knew that she couldn't lie and say she wasn't happy to see him. That would have been awful.
Roxas smiled weakly, surprised. Kairi was obviously still mad, and for good reason, but he hoped she was being sincere with him. "Right," he agreed with a small nod. It was good to be back, even if he had a lot of redeeming to do. After dinner, he'd talk to Kairi privately and apologize. Then he'd figure out how to set things right. He'd much rather travel this path than the one he was on before, so that made his tasks seem easier.

Kairi squeezed Roxas's hand before retreating, getting herself comfortable for the three-course meal that would be laid out for them. The King always did like having visitors, and even if they were more focused on their mission than socializing, everyone appreciated his kindness. It wasn't often they got to leave Destiny Islands and visit, after all. They would make the best of it.
As the meal progressed, Lightning sat next to Riku, between him and Serah. The latter was mainly socializing with Noel, even if she did just see Lightning for the first time in nearly two weeks today after worrying the whole time. Romance makes people crazy, she thought in amusement, twirling some pasta around her fork.

Riku talked to the King and Minnie throughout the meal, since he became rather close with the King on past adventures. Of course, Donald and Goofy were also at the meal, and they often cracked jokes about Sora. It made for interesting conversation at the table, and he was sure he wasn't the only one who appreciated the humor. Everyone needed it after what happened the day before. And they would need a lot of it for what was to come: the war.
Lightning studied the group, quietly eating her food. It was...crazy. Everything was so tense, but everyone at the table smiled at least once during the meal due to somebody else's silliness. She immediately knew that the other side wasn't like this, ever. There was no happiness in Darkness... She glanced over at Riku briefly before looking back down at her plate. Thank you so much for not letting me join them. Thank you for welcoming me into this insane family.

Riku caught Lightning's gaze in his direction out of the corner of his eye, and as he ate his food with one hand, he moved the other to sit on her knee. She was smiling throughout the meal like the rest of them, and that was good enough for Riku. With some time, he was sure that he could get Lightning to be happy all the time. Or at least most of the time. Once the war was over, it would be possible.
Lightning had no need to switch her fork to her other hand due to which side of her Riku was sitting, so she set her free hand atop his and began to lace her fingers with his. He just caught her looking at him, hadn't he? She couldn't say she was surprised, since Riku was never really oblivious to anything.

Riku squeezed Lightning's hand as he laughed at one of Noel's cheesy jokes. He could only get them from his older brother. Sora never really failed at passing on some mannerisms to Noel, who looked up to him a lot more than he normally did when Sora got the Keyblade. Riku was just glad to have some laughter at the table. Xehanort took their happiness away for a while, but now they had it. At least temporarily.
Serah laughed warmly at Noel's joke, as she always did. The two of them met at the very beginning of the school year and had been together since. They couldn't help it if they fell for each other so quickly though! It was such a blessing Lightning now understood romance a little more, or else she would have prohibited Serah from ever seeing Noel.

Kairi walked hand-in-hand with Sora as they left the dining room, the meal now over. Everyone was going to hang out for a little while before bed, or so they all decided. Kairi glanced over her shoulder to see Namine following, Roxas beside her. Kairi wasn't sure how she felt about him just yet. She was glad to see that he was back to his old self, but she was also disappointed. How could he have left Namine like that? He cared so much about her in the past...
"Kairi?" Roxas called, walking a few feet behind next to Namine. He saw how the redhead looked at him, and it wasn't exactly pleasant. The fury was replaced by something else, but she still wasn't okay with him. He wanted to fix that, somehow.

Kairi glanced at Roxas for another second. "Yeah?" she asked, facing forward and walking next to Sora. Roxas sounded like he wanted to talk, and Kairi wasn't really sure she was up for it. They just had a great meal and conversation with friends. Did Roxas really want to talk and possibly mess that up?
"Could we talk?" Roxas asked. He wanted to get this talk over with so that he could move on with his life, even if they did just have a good fellowship with friends. He just hoped the talk would go fairly well, or he wasn't sure what he'd do.

Kairi should have known this was coming. She looked over at her husband, stopping their walk and squeezing his hand. "I'll be there in a few minutes," she told him softly. They agreed to meet outside in the gardens tonight so they could look at the stars and talk, all of them. Riku and Lightning were even going.
Roxas noticed Sora nod and squeeze Kairi's hand in return before he walked on ahead, Namine following his lead. The hallway was empty now, so he and Kairi just lingered there. Their talk probably wouldn't be too long. "I just wanted to say sorry," he said. He didn't know what other words he could say to appease her...

Kairi turned to look at Roxas. "You haven't only apologized to me, I hope," she said softly. Namine deserved the apology more than Kairi did, that was for sure. She was the one who suffered, after all. Kairi wasn't sure how Namine would react to such a thing, but Kairi would take more time to forgive Roxas for his actions. They weren't taken lightly.
"No," Roxas said, meaning that he didn't just apologize to Kairi. Realizing that he could be misheard, his eyes widened and he began to stumble over his words. "I mean yes! I mean--I did apologize to her." He apologized within a minute of waking up. He wasn't heartless...

Kairi nodded slightly, lowering her gaze to the floor. "Did she forgive you?" she asked quietly. Namine was always one who wanted to avoid conflict, so Kairi wasn't sure if she would forgive Roxas because she accepted his apology or because she wanted the problem to go away. Namine was unpredictable in that way.
"I think...maybe," Roxas said, pondering it. "She really didn't say much." That had been what he expected though. After all, he really wronged her. He should have never abandoned her. Temporary insanity was his excuse, but still, he did something bad that he needed to be held accountable for.

Kairi wasn't sure what to make of that, so she simply hummed in response. She looked up at Roxas, hurt in her eyes. "She's like my sister, Roxas," she said quietly. "When you abandoned her, you hurt me too. It's going to take a while for me to forgive you..." How could she let something that horrible go? Namine could have been killed...
Roxas nodded faintly, taking in the hurt in Kairi's eyes. He already said sorry, so... "Let me know what I can do to make it easier," he said softly. However he could help her forgive him, he'd do it. He knew he was a jerk lately and had things to set right, so he was going to try his hardest to do just that.

Kairi shook her head a little. "I don't know if there's anything just yet," she said softly. She stepped forward then, putting her hands on Roxas's shoulders. "But, Roxas... No matter what you've done, you're my friend. You always have been. When the time comes where we have to fight for our lives, I'll be fighting for yours too." She tilted her head slightly, gazing at him. "You understand?" Kairi wouldn't neglect him for a mistake; she would defend him just as she would defend the others. That part of her wouldn't change. Roxas was one of their Seven, but most importantly, he was Kairi's friend.
Roxas smiled weakly, nodding. "Got it....And right back at you." Kairi was his friend even when he wasn't himself, and she'd continue to be his friend now. He would fight for her as well, perhaps more fiercely now than he would have if he didn't owe her anything. He had to make it up to her somehow; he had to right his wrongs.

Kairi smiled weakly, nodding her thanks. At least they understood each other now. She squeezed Roxas's shoulders before she stepped over to be next to him, linking her arm with his. "Escort me to the Gardens?" she asked softly, looking up at him. They were okay for right now, but Roxas would have to make things up to Namine. Once she was happy, Kairi would be too.
