Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Roxas glanced at the notes. He had enough of it written down that he'd be able to recreate it later. So it was time to leave school; that would give him a reason to leave Namine as well. "It's nothing," he muttered, grasping the paper and pencil as he rose from the bench. He wasn't sure what "nothing" was, but it hardly mattered. "I gotta go." He didn't feel like sticking around to hear what she had to say today.

Namine watched Roxas as he gathered his things and stood from his seat, and she knew instantly what he was doing. "Roxas...wait?" she said, not meaning for it to come off as a question. She just...needed a moment to talk to him, to apologize for what she said. She didn't mean it in a bad way, necessarily. Did she?
Roxas shook his head faintly, sticking some of the papers in his backpack. "No, I, uh, really need to go," he said, only briefly glancing up at Namine before looking back to the bag. He slung it over his shoulder and started towards the door, which Namine was inconveniently standing next to. But he'd be shocked if she tried to block his way; she wasn't bold like that.

Namine's eyes fell to the floor, but she didn't move. He couldn't walk away from her like this, not without giving her a chance. Or could he? Maybe...she deserved this treatment. What she said wasn't very nice, not at all.
Roxas was too much like Sora to say anything mean to Namine, even after what she said about him. Yet as he passed by her, he did say one thing to show that he heard them at the restaurant yesterday. "Tell Kairi I say hi." At least she had nice things to say about him. In fact, he was flattered by what she had to say and how she implied he was good enough to date her best friend. Those compliments faded in importance to Namine's insults though.

Namine stiffened at the comment, but she then lowered her head, hugging her books to her chest. That felt like a jab, and it was probably meant to be. She deserved it now, she was sure of it. This was fate's design, and she was meant to get hurt, just like Roxas did. Except she would be dealing with guilt. "...I will," she whispered softly.
Though Roxas was already out of the room, he heard Namine's whisper. He should have felt sorry for the jab, but then again, he knew he could have done much worse than that. So he just kept walking. It was time to go anywhere but here, to be anywhere but Namine's company.

Namine could hear Roxas's fading footsteps down the hall, and once they were gone, she sighed. That went...terribly. Actually, it didn't go at all. Roxas wouldn't even let her speak. But...why was he so offended by what she said?

The Next Night

Sora sat at the dinner table in his apartment, sitting next to his wife as they ate dinner. As always, he was happy with Kairi's homemade dinner. It was delicious as always. He shoved down another piece of bread, humming in delight. He was happy over dinner, but also happy they had a guest tonight. Namine was eating with them.

"Sora, slow down," Kairi encouraged, seeing how Sora was stuffing his face with her cooking. Honestly, she didn't think it was that terrific. But she was happy someone appreciated it. "You're gonna make yourself sick." He had unfortunately done that before, at a fair on the Islands. Sora ate so much he got sick an hour later. It was awful, and disgusting.
"'M fime," Sora said around his mouthful of food. Realizing it wasn't polite to talk with his mouth full, he gave Kairi a sheepish smile while managing to keep his mouth shut. She probably didn't want to see his chewed up food. But anyway, he could handle this much food just fine. He had a big mouth and a big stomach.

Kairi shook her head, sighing. "You're lucky you're cute," she said to her husband, smiling a little. She couldn't really help it; he just made her happy and giddy, even when he wasn't trying. She looked up at Namine at that moment, to see if she responded in any way--a laugh or a smile or something--but Namine was staring blankly at her plate. Oh...Roxas... That was what was wrong.
Sora managed to swallow his food, smiling affectionately at his wife after it was done. Marriage had been kind to them thus far. But from what he heard, relationships elsewhere weren't doing so hot. At that thought, he glanced across the table at Namine. "So, Namine," he said to his friend. "Now that I'm done stuffing my face, I can maybe hold a decent conversation. What's new with you?"
  • Author
Namine shrugged, moving her food around on her plate. "Nothing," she answered quietly, her thoughts elsewhere. She hadn't stopped thinking about Roxas. It was weird; she felt like she was in Twilight Town all over again, constantly worrying about him like this. Back then, she had done nothing but think about him, and now it was the same.
"Nothing, hm," Sora hummed without taking his eyes off Namine. "...Kairi told me something different." She said that she and Namine had been talking about Roxas the other day and he overheard. Apparently he was really offended, because he wouldn't speak to Namine now. He wondered exactly what she said to make him so upset.

Namine's fork froze on her plate, and her eyes darted to Kairi. You told him? she wanted to ask, but she couldn't find her voice. They were talking about Namine's previous crush on Sora in the first place! And Kairi mentioned it to him? Namine dropped her fork and brought her hand to her face, covering her eyes. This keeps getting worse...

"Namine," Kairi tried, having realized what Namine's reaction was about. "I had to tell him. He and Roxas are practically brothers." It would have come up eventually, since Sora and Roxas are connected. Besides, Sora didn't care. Those feelings were in the past now. Everyone got past that.

"Relax, Namine," Sora suggested, actually serious for once but comforting at the same time. "I understand it all. Except for why Roxas is upset. What exactly did you say to get him so riled up?" He wanted to help if he could. The fact that Namine had a crush on him was flattering, but it was a thing of the past now, and not significant to this conversation. While he wanted to help Roxas feel better, it was Namine who inflicted the wound, so it needed to be her to heal it.

Namine didn't look up, her hand still covering her face. "I'd rather not talk about it," she admitted softly. It wasn't a good subject, and hearing that she screwed up was only going to make her feel worse. Sora would try to be nice about it all, but she would know what his words really meant.
"Namine," Sora said gently. "I can help you try and fix this. Nobody understands Roxas like I do. If you guys let me know the specifics of the conversation, everything can be peaceful again." He was sure Namine wanted to fix the harm that she accidentally caused, and he wanted to help. Neither of his friends deserved to suffer.

Kairi saw the look Namine now gave her, and she shrugged. "It couldn't hurt," she admitted. "It's worth a shot." If Namine spoke up, Sora probably could help. He was right; nobody understood Roxas like he did. Kairi was stuck, Namine was stuck, but Sora would mostly likely know what to do. He was the go-to for this dilemma.

Namine tucked some of her blonde hair behind her ear, not making eye contact after briefly glancing at Sora. "...We were discussing boys, or...well, Kairi was," she started, motioning to her best friend slightly. "She was asking me if there was anyone I was interested in, but she was trying to trick me into saying I was crushing on Roxas."

"Do you?" Sora asked, though the question didn't seem clear enough to him. He rephrased. "Have a crush on Roxas, I mean." He lifted his fork and took a mouthful of lasagna, still hungry but a part of the conversation. It was obvious he was; he was the one who instigated it. He hoped he could help somehow.

Namine's eyes widened, feeling blood rush to her cheeks. "O-oh, um..." she stuttered, looking away. "Well....I mean, he's attractive...and everything." She instantly felt like a fool for saying such things, but it was the truth. Roxas was attractive in her eyes. He was handsome, and he had a great personality. Well...he did at one point, a few years ago. She thought she caught glimpses of that person over the past month when they got together. But...she wasn't really sure who he was as a person anymore.
Sora chuckled at Namine's blush, shaking his head. "Never mind," he said. She didn't have to speak anymore on that topic. He guessed it wasn't extremely important. What she said that day was more vital. "Tell me more about the conversation." He was curious now about the specifics, though he really didn't understand what could make Roxas so upset. Once he heard it, he would understand.

Namine looked to Kairi at the demand, and her best friend encouraged her to explain everything to Sora. Kairi's gaze seemed to say it all: Sora will understand. Go ahead. Namine glanced over at Sora before staring down at the table, unable to hold eye contact with this news. "...Kairi brought up the fact that I did have feelings for someone at one point, so having feelings for another shouldn't be that difficult..."
It took Sora a moment or two, but he pieced it together. He was the first someone, and Roxas was the second. Kairi suggested that if Namine had a crush on Sora, she could also have a crush on Roxas. In the pit of his stomach, he started to grasp exactly what made Roxas upset. But he kept his mouth shut and listened for more information to confirm whether he was right or not.
