Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Namine's smile faltered at the question, and she diverted her gaze immediately. She began stowing her sketchpad away in her book bag. "Mm," she hummed. She didn't really want to talk about it. The nightmares, the flashbacks, the pictures she kept drawing. If she wasn't drawing like a five year old, she was drawing the Organization members' faces. It was...terrifying. It made her scared to draw anymore, if she could do it at all.
Roxas's eyes softened. "You don't have to lie to me, Namine," he said quietly. He wasn't going to lash out at her or turn his back on her. First off, they were friends. That was genuine even when he was a different person. And secondly, he promised to look out for her while everyone else was gone. But she had to let him do that.

Namine let her book bag stay on the table, and she looked at it before her eyes found Roxas. He appeared so genuine, just like the Roxas she knew in Twilight Town. The Roxas she had always cared for and protected when she could. The sight nearly brought tears to her eyes, but her problems were doing the same. "I..." she said softly, fighting the moisture. She didn't want to cry in front of Roxas, or any of these people at school. She didn't want to cry at all, but... "I can't draw anymore."
Roxas's eyes softened further at Namine's sadness. She...couldn't draw anymore? But drawing was the most important thing in her life... "C'mon," he said quietly, rising to his feet. "Let's get out of here." She wouldn't go to any more classes today if she couldn't draw. Being here was probably worse for her, especially seeing how upset she was now.

Namine's eyebrows furrowed slightly as she looked up at Roxas. "Where are we going?" she asked, blinking away the moisture in her eyes. Where could they possibly go? She knew that since they were home that they had many options, but what could they do that would be distracting enough for her? Drawing was a pretty big deal, and not being able to do it felt awful.
"We'll figure it out on the way," Roxas said with a weak smile. Just humor me, please? He wanted to cheer her up somehow. He knew a lot of her likes and dislikes because of their friendship this past semester, but he also knew Namine. And she needed to get her mind off drawing for now, if that was possible.

Namine recognized that smile immediately, a flashback of the fifteen year old Roxas making that same expression. She smiled slightly and grabbed her bag, looping it over her shoulder once she was on her feet. She started toward the entrance, trusting that Roxas would be joining her.
Roxas was glad to see that small smile--it was better than nothing. He and Namine walked out into the March air and he saw the world beginning to come alive again. That had been quite some snowstorm that Santa hit them with this year. Not that any of them minded. Even Roxas had fun during that time. Because of his friends...friends like Namine.

Namine took in a breath, closing her eyes as she did. The fresh air was great, something she realized just now. Why hadn't she gone outside sooner? Being inside, and cramped... It was like being in the white room all over again. She opened her eyes at that, staring ahead as she walked beside Roxas. Hopefully he had something in mind. She could use a distraction.
Once they reached the bottom of the stairs, something clicked for Roxas. There was a good idea. "I got it," he said to Namine, smiling at her in reassurance and excitement. "C'mon." He wasn't going to tell her what the idea was, but it was perfect. It wouldn't be too crowded this time of day and it would boost her mood. How couldn't it?

Namine blinked, looking over at Roxas. Whether he noticed it or not, he started walking a bit faster. She moved her feet faster to keep up. "What is it?" she asked, curious. He seemed so...excited, something she hadn't seen in him in a couple years. It was refreshing...
"If you guess it right, maybe I'll tell you," Roxas responded. He highly doubted he would tell her, but a guessing game would keep her mind off everything else. Well, he hoped so, at least. It would be hard to really keep her focused on today since her art really was precious to her.

Namine only glanced from Roxas to the path they were following. How was she supposed to guess? Where could they go this time of day? "...The beach?" she asked softly. That seemed logical; everyone spent a lot of time there, and it was relaxing.
"Nope," Roxas said as he shook his head. The beach probably wouldn't have been a good idea anyway. It was so quiet that she would still be thinking about her drawings. That definitely wouldn't have been a distraction. How did he even think of this idea though? It was so utterly random...

"...The mall," Namine guessed again, though she highly doubted Roxas would want to go there. He was a guy; the mall wasn't usually his place of choice. Even as a new person, she was sure that preference would still stick.
Roxas's lips turned up in a slight smirk. "Maybe," he agreed, turning down the path that would eventually lead them to that place. In truth, that was where they were going. The mall. No kids would be in it since it was still school hours. It'd be nice and peaceful, especially at the store they were going to.

If Namine didn't look confused before, she definitely did now. "Roxas," she said in surprise, stepping forward quickly so she could see his face. "Why are we going to the mall?" Kairi was the kind of person to go there when she was down, but Namine definitely wasn't. So what did Roxas have in mind?
"For good reason," Roxas said, looking over at Namine with eyes that were both serious and warm. "Trust me." It may have been an unfair request after everything, but that was what he was asking for anyway. Just a little bit of trust. This was going to cheer her up at least a little bit.

Namine caught the look in Roxas's eyes, and they were genuine. That was enough. "Okay," she said with a small nod. They would go to the mall then, not that she would actually refuse. What else did she have to do? Nothing.
Roxas led Namine into the mall, to one of the stores near the edges of it. Once they were in front of it, it was obvious what they were there for. It was a pet store. How couldn't Namine smile when she saw all the cute puppies, kittens, bunnies, and whatever else was in there?

As soon as Roxas stopped in front of the pet store, Namine walked up to the window and placed a hand against it. A puppy on the other side started licking the glass where her hand was, and she couldn't help but smile. Roxas was such a sweetheart for thinking of this. How did he know that seeing these little creatures would make her smile?
Roxas chuckled, approaching the window next to Namine. "Cute little guy, huh?" he asked as he glanced Namine. She looked so much better already. He was surprised, but happy over it. As if he would wish sorrow upon her. She saved his life twice now...

Namine felt Roxas's eyes on her, so she turned her head to look up at him. "Adorable," she said with a small nod. She then looked back to the puppy, who was pawing at the window where she and Roxas were. The pup seemed to have friends, since a couple other puppies ventured over there as well. They were so cute!
Roxas chuckled, shaking his head lightly. "C'mon," he said, stepping over and opening the door for her. She didn't have to be separated from them. Sora told him maybe a year ago that he brought Kairi here and they were allowed to hold the animals. Namine was going to love this so much that it made him happy too.

Namine stepped away from the window, smiling at Roxas in gratitude for holding the door. She then stepped in, hearing the yapping puppies at their arrival. The clerk greeted them and Namine nodded slightly, giving a soft "hello" in return. But the animals had her attention the most--the kittens, the bunnies, and of course the puppies. She completely forgot about her drawings, instead wanting to give love to the innocent animals in the store. But where did she start?
