Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Kairi brought up Roxas's qualities that were attractive," Namine continued, looking up at the two across the table. "He's sweet...and funny, and he cares a lot for people. He's mysterious too, which is intriquing. But..." Namine lowered her gaze to her hands in her lap, hesitating a moment. "...But after I agreed, I said he wasn't you." Her pale blue eyes locked onto the cobalt blue she used to have dreams about, nervous for his reaction to what she just said.
Sora nodded faintly, leaning back in his chair. "Got it." It was obvious to him why Roxas was upset. If Riku was around, he probably would have figured it out too, but he was busy with the Guardian Corps. It didn't take a genius to figure out what was wrong with Roxas. He still didn't like being compared to Sora, after all these years.

Namine waited a moment, wondering what Sora had to say. But she decided to ask a question instead. "What I said was wrong, wasn't it?" She knew it was, but she needed an outsider's opinion. It wouldn't make her feel any better, but still... It was just something she had to know.
"Well," Sora said, trying to think of how he could say this right. "I don't think Roxas is offended for the reason you think he's offended." Namine probably thought that Roxas was upset that he wasn't as good as Sora in Namine's eyes, but it was more than that. Roxas was Sora's Nobody, and because of that, he dealt with a lot of identity issues. He didn't want to be Sora's Nobody; he wanted to be himself. He and Roxas were best friends despite sharing that knowledge.

"What does that mean?" Kairi asked, wanting a more detailed answer. Roxas was offended, clearly, but why? If it wasn't for the reason they thought, then what was it? She gazed at her husband with confused eyes, wondering just what he was thinking.
Sora glanced down at his plate, then looking at Kairi and then to Namine as he answered. "You compared him to me," he said. "I don't think he would have cared if you compared him to somebody else. But since Roxas came into existence, he's tried to create his own identity. He doesn't want to be my Nobody--or just a shadow of me. He wants to be Roxas." He hoped that made sense, because that was the best that he could explain it.

Namine gazed at Sora in silence, just as Kairi did, realization in her eyes. She understood... She understood completely. A few years ago, she was trying to figure out who she was as well. She knew she was Kairi's shadow, but...she got through it and focused on herself. She must have made Roxas feel like dirt, saying he wasn't Sora, like Sora was the only likeable one.
"That's all that I can guess, really," Sora said with a small shrug. "It's weird though...He's been different since school started. More confident in his own identity. Maybe his music helps with that." But of course, Roxas didn't share his music with many people. It was rare that he even shared it with Sora. That was alright.

"...I think it might," Namine wondered aloud, looking at her two friends. Roxas shared his music with her a few times over the last month, and it was beautiful. She told him as much, and she could tell that he was believing in himself more. But...she probably just ruined that.
Sora nodded slightly, and then took another forkful of dinner. Well, he was glad that he was able to help Namine understand Roxas a little better. Obviously she wouldn't tell Roxas that they had this conversation about him though; he probably wouldn't appreciate that.

Namine knew instantly that she had to talk to Roxas, apologize immensely. She was so...cruel for saying that. If she had known, she wouldn't have. But how could she have known he was so sensitive? Perhaps that's why he's been so distant the last couple years, she wondered. It made sense, but she hoped Roxas would actually let her speak the next time they saw each other. If they saw each other. Namine really needed to talk to him.

The Next Day

Lightning couldn't believe that she was at the Guardian Corps again. After Halloween, she did grow to appreciate the nice gym that Riku had control over. This was the second official training session that she had showed up to, though the first time was just the time she came to thank Riku for helping her at the marathon that took place so long ago. Today she was there more willingly, to get in a good workout even if she wasn't in the Corps. The other trainees were there too, but it hardly affected her even if she knew one or two from school.

Riku leaned over a countertop, working on some paper work. He had bills to pay soon, so he was getting all the expenses written down on paper so he knew they added up. His senses picked up movement near the door, and he lifted his head just in time to see another one of his recruits. Riku smirked, putting his pen down as he made his way toward the door. "Snow," he called. The boy looked over at him, a little taller than Riku despite his age. Riku clasped his hand and gave him a one-armed hug, which he pulled away from a second later. "Thanks for coming, man."

"Heh, thanks for having me," Snow replied. "Which one of these babies do I get to use?" He took a fist into his hand and looked around the gym, wondering what machine he was allowed to use first. He was seventeen, but some mistook him for being older due to his height. Regardless, he dressed like a teenager, wearing combat boots and black pants, as well as a beige jacket that went to his waist. Gloves were on his hands, and a cap rested atop his blond hair. He looked tough, and that was because he was. He was stronger than people knew, and that was one step closer to becoming a hero in Snow's eyes.

Lightning heard voices, but not the conversation. She was focused on what she was doing--just punching the punching bag. An easy task that required nobody else to assist her. That was the way that she liked it after all. She was still a loner even if Riku knew the truth about her family now. Or maybe that was why she was still alone; she didn't exactly encourage him to get closer. He'd get hurt. She punched the bag in frustration, amazed at how thoughts like that got to her.

Riku shrugged, looking to the gym. "Any one you want. It's all yours," he said. He waved a hand lightly at the gym before making his way back to the counter, that way he could finish his paperwork. The recruits knew what they were doing, so he wouldn't have to supervise.

Snow looked around, eyeing the others that were in the gym. He saw quite a few girls, and more guys. If a woman was strong enough to join the Corps, he was instantly interested. And in one in particular. He made his way toward that area, seeing her using one of the three punching bags.

Lightning threw in three successive punches, bangs landing in her eyes when it was done. She exhaled a breath that was nearly a sigh, pulling back her right hand and staring at the bag for a second. A breather would probably be good around now, but what would she do after that? Maybe the treadmill.

Snow lifted an eyebrow in interest. "You look confused," he said, approaching the pink-haired girl. Whatever she was looking at, he was curious at to what it was. It had her attention, which he wanted himself.

Lightning looked over at the boy, one she recognized from her grade at school. "I'm not," she said to him. She wasn't confused and she didn't know how that would have conveyed on her expression. She had only been thinking about what to do next to round out her workout. Nothing about working out confused her.
  • Author
"Actually, I think you are," Snow said, standing next to Lightning and the punching bag. He was watching her technique as he approached, and her punches were a little off. Her punches weren't being pulled back far enough; she was making short jabs. That wasn't going to be very effective.

Lightning looked over at Snow a little more, eyebrows furrowed. "You think wrong, then," she said. She knew what she was doing here and she had her workout under control. If he was here just to insult her or make small talk, he could go try it on one of the other girls. Lightning wasn't interested in the guy.
  • Author
Snow held his hands up in surrender. "Whoa, take it easy," he said, catching the threatening tone in the girl's voice. "I was just going to offer some advice." He'd been throwing punches a lot lately, but not in fights. He didn't believe in conflict unless it was absolutely necessary. That was why he joined the Corps when Riku approached him.

Were you? Hm, Lightning thought in disbelief. "I know what I'm doing," she said. But even she realized that she was coming off as harsh. So if she looked a little more gracious, maybe he wouldn't be offended. Not that she cared too deeply what he was feeling; she just didn't want to be unnecessarily cruel. "...Thanks."
  • Author
Snow nodded a little, his eyes resting on Lightning. She was definitely attractive, and her personality made her even more so. "Since it seems like you know what you're doing here, why don't we shake things up a bit?" he suggested. "I just started, and those Struggle bats over there are calling my name. How about a little match?"
Lightning glanced over at the Struggle bats, wheels turning in her head. A big guy like Snow wanted to challenge a small girl like her? What was he, nuts? But this was an opportunity Lightning had secretly been waiting for--to fight somebody bigger and stronger and still take them down. "Alright," she agreed after a moment. She'd fight him.
  • Author
Snow smiled, nodding. "Alright," he said, enthusiasm in his tone. He stepped past Lightning, starting toward the Struggle bats. "I'm Snow, by the way. Nice to meet you." Even if he was a tough guy, he was also friendly. That was something that had never changed.
