Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Because," Lightning said quietly, no hint of a smile tugging at her lips as she reached over and grasped Riku's hands with one of her own. "It'll guarantee I'll always be part of your life." Keyblade wielders stuck together. Their fates were always intertwined. If she got a Keyblade...she'd always have a place in Riku's life.

Riku's lips parted slightly at the words, his hand grasping Lightning's in return. He didn't question her with that confession; it was obvious that she meant it. But... "Don't let that be the only reason," he said, finally able to speak. "Don't do it because of me." She was sacrificing her life in order to protect the worlds. Some of them didn't have this choice.
Lightning kept her eyes on Riku, knowing he didn't want to be her only reason. But still, he was definitely her biggest reason. "It's the only reason that matters," she declared quietly. She was willing to fight with him. Willing to fight for him. She could never regret that decision. This was Riku they were talking about.

Riku could only stare at Lightning in disbelief, but then it dawned on him. Protect the things that matter. He smiled ever so slightly, his eyes locked on hers. "You want to protect what matters," he stated softly. He mattered to her, and she wanted to protect him. And Serah, and the others. That was most important to her. She and Riku were the same in that way.
Lightning felt a small smile tug at her lips as her hand tightened around Riku's. Yes, that was it. She wanted to protect things. She took on her new name thinking all she could do was destroy. But this was her chance to defy the fate she gave herself years ago. She would live and fight for what mattered. Her friends, her family...her possible love.

Riku squeezed Lightning's hand, his smile fading after a minute. "Are you sure about this?" he asked her, voice firm. She couldn't take this back. Once she was given the power, it was with her forever. She couldn't regret this decision.

Lightning held eye-contact with Riku, not daring to look away. He'd take it for doubt. So after a few moments, she nodded without a word. She was sure. She had already made up her mind about the battle, so adding on the Keyblade wasn't a huge deal. Maybe she was looking at it too near-sighted, but that was how it was going to be. She would accept the responsibility.

Riku stared at Lightning for a minute, searching her eyes for the truth. And he found it. There was determination and the need to help others, and the wish to protect those who mattered. That wish was about to be granted. Riku nodded a little. The Keyblade would be hers.
Lightning nodded slightly as well, her eyes staying locked onto Riku's despite the wind blowing her pink bangs into her eyes. She knew she was young to be making this type of decision, but she was older mentally than physically. She mostly understood the responsibilities and the burden. She would accept it, even just for the sake of keeping somebody else from having the burden.

Riku released Lightning's hand then, turning to face her and on one knee. He summoned his Keyblade to him then, turning it in his grasp so he had a hold on the blade and the handle was toward Lightning. He looked at her one last time, asking her silently if she was ready. There was no going back.
Lightning kept her eyes on Riku for a few more moments before looking back to the blade. She had held it before, briefly. But it had faded out of her grasp because she wasn't its owner. That would change now though...She would have her own Keyblade soon. Her right hand lifted and wrapped around the hilt of the blade in silence. She was doing this, and she would do it with no regrets.

Riku looked down at Lightning's hand, seeing her hold his weapon for the second time. But in a matter of seconds, she would have her own. Riku closed his eyes, a warm light surrounding his form. The power from within him was summoned to the surface, and now he would transfer it to Lightning. This was what she wanted, and he would be the one to give it to her.
Lightning lifted her gaze to Riku, blinking when he glowed. He looked so solemn, but then again, so did she. This was a serious matter and neither of them were taking it lightly. But she did feel...childish. Naive, really. She had no clue what was happening except that this was some sort of magic to give her a Keyblade of her own.

The warm glow around Riku remained, slowly passing over his Keyblade before touching Lightning's hand. Riku opened his eyes then, meeting Lightning's gaze as her form in turn began to glow with the warm light. This was different than how he performed the ceremony in the past, when he was getting the Keyblade, but it was like deja vu. This time, he wasn't on the receiving end.
As soon as Lightning looked down and saw the light, her eyes gently flickered shut along as the wind also gently blew through her hair. She felt...different. She remembered what it was like holding Riku's Keyblade before--it was an embodiment of who he was. Protective, caring, warm... Even if she wasn't physically holding her own Keyblade, she felt certain attributes rising in her own heart. Her Keyblade would embody her core values--protection, sacrifice, and determination.

Riku felt the warmth from the light slowly leave him, and that was when he noticed the same happening for Lightning. He gazed at her in silence, still holding his Keyblade by the blade, her hand lingering on the hilt. It was done. She was granted the ability to wield a Keyblade.
Lightning opened her eyes after a few moments, her blue eyes immediately locking onto Riku's. She didn't bother saying a word to him--the silence wasn't thick necessarily, but it wasn't light either. It wasn't the type of silence that she wanted to break. The light was gone...did that mean that it was all over?

Riku saw the question in Lightning's eyes and he nodded, sending his Keyblade away. "It's done," he told her softly. She now could wield a Keyblade, but it would take a while to materialize. It took Riku ten years after the ceremony to get one. Lightning's would probably be a few hours to a few days, at best. She just had to be patient. It would show up when the time was right.
Lightning nodded faintly in silence, lowering her hand to sit in her lap. It was still open, but she wasn't really trying to summon the Keyblade. She didn't know how to, after all. And she felt like asking would be silly. There was still so much she didn't know. All she knew was that the young man she was looking at succeeded in giving her a Keyblade.

Riku smiled slightly in encouragement, rising to his feet and holding out his hand. Lightning seemed confused and like she had a lot questions, and he would answer what he could. She was officially his successor, after all. They had a special bond now.
Lightning smiled weakly and slipped her hand into Riku's, keeping her eyes on it as she rose to her feet. She wasn't off balance or anything like that. She couldn't really explain what she was feeling inside. It was different, but a good different. She felt more confident in having this kind of connection to Riku, whose eyes she now met again.

Riku ran his thumb over Lightning's hand, his eyes staying locked on hers. He was sure she could tell what he was thinking. I'm proud of you. It took a lot of strength to accept this kind of lifestyle, and now that she was a Keyblade wielder, she and Riku were more connected. Especially since he was the one who passed on the power. Lightning didn't have to worry about being part of his life; their hearts were connected.

Lightning kept her eyes on Riku, realizing that they were standing pretty close. She ordinarily felt drawn to him and connected to him, but this was different. There was that word again, but it seemed to be the only one that suited the situation. She couldn't even take her eyes off of his now...they shared a very deep connection now because of the Keyblade.

Riku lifted his other hand and lightly brushed the hair out of Lightning's eyes, his skin tingling at just that small touch. It was like his feelings for her were heightened somehow, and he believed he knew why; the Keyblade. He passed on some of his power to her, and that was a bond that would never be broken. Riku leaned forward, closing his eyes as he connected his lips to Lightning's forehead. They would be connected forever.
When Riku's eyes left her line of sight, Lightning allowed her eyes to flicker shut. She never got over the butterflies she had when Riku kissed her, but the butterflies were almost more intense now. Something told her that Riku was also feeling the heightened connection. She had imagined he would give her the weapon then insist on her summoning it right away, but he hadn't. Instead, he was cherishing her. She liked this reaction to the situation very much.
