Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Maybe you should train her then," Riku hissed, releasing Lightning to take a step toward Master Yen Sid. "Nothing I do or Lightning does is good enough for you! You decided that she was the person to complete our Seven, and now you seem to be going back on your word. I gave her the Keyblade, and all we can do now is wait until it shows up and have her train until it does." Riku shook his head. "It's too late to back out of that decision now, Master Yen Sid. It's already done. The final position's filled, and Lightning is fighting with us, whether you approve or not." They worked too hard for Lightning to be excluded now, and it was too late to search for another seventh. The deal was done.

Master Yen Sid listened to Riku's comments, seeing how Lightning looked at him with wider eyes. She was surprised he spoke so boldly to the old Master--even she hadn't said such things and she was the target of his criticism. "You wouldn't allow me to train her in the first place," he stated. "You only allow her to train under strict circumstances. You're too protective of her."

"So sue me," Riku said, eyebrows furrowing a little more at the words from the old Master. "I give a damn, unlike you. You think we're all just soldiers, not people. You almost let Lightning die. What kind of leader are you? What kind of Master ignores other Keyblade wielders' thoughts and concerns?"

Kairi shook her head at her friend. "Riku..." she said softly. He couldn't do this. He couldn't talk to Master Yen Sid like this.

"No, Kairi," Riku snapped. He looked from her to Master Yen Sid. "I won't follow orders from someone who treats us like pawns. You may be a Master--older, wiser--but I'm a Master too. I earned my spot in all of this, and with all of the work Light's been doing, so has she. Who are you to decide that she's unworthy?"

Lightning stepped up to Riku's side, especially doing it after he disregarded Kairi's attempt to calm him down. Maybe Kairi couldn't calm him down, but Light had to try. She set a hand on his tense arm and looked up at him. "Enough," she said softly. She appreciated that he was standing up for her, but Master Yen Sid had a point. Lightning was too weak, despite how hard she was working. Maybe she was the wrong choice after all.

Riku looked down at Lightning, but he ignored her demand. "No, Light!" he said. "He's making it sound like all of our hard work has been for nothing. What happened to putting faith in our Seven?" He directed the last bit toward Master Yen Sid, waiting for the man's response. So much for faith.

"Faith is great," Master Yen Sid responded, seeing Lightning tighten her grasp on Riku's arm to try and calm him down again. He feared that wouldn't work though. "We have our Seven and I'm thrilled. The time for faith is over. Now is a time of rigerous training. I am not seeing the fruits of your labor and am losing faith. Even in titling you a Master." Riku had strength of heart, body, and mind, but he lacked respect.

Riku's body tensed considerably at the words, his hands tightening into fists. He glared at Master Yen Sid in silence, sure that his eyes said it all. After all, his eyes couldn't lie. Everything he was feeling toward Master Yen Sid--the fury, the betrayal, the hatred--was pure. He had good reason.
Lightning placed herself in front of Riku, as if that would somehow shield him of the harsh Master's words. Now she had some words of her own, though they were spoken more respectfully than Riku's were. "He's a great Master, and teacher," she said of Riku, changing the subject slightly. "I'm the problem here. I'm sorry." She dipped her head faintly in respect to the old Master, meaning to take the blame. It was hers to bear anyway. She wasn't the warrior they wanted her to be yet, and it wasn't Riku's fault. So it must have been her fault instead.

Riku closed his eyes, lowering his head slightly as his bangs fell into his face. Don't apologize to him, he wanted to say. But after what Master Yen Sid said, he couldn't find his voice. How could he respond to someone telling him he shouldn't have been a Master? That was one of the worst insults Riku knew.
Lightning watched Master Yen Sid leave, and she was relieved. Thank goodness that whole thing was over. She remained in front of Riku, though she didn't want to see his face. He was probably hurt, which he shouldn't have been. Master Yen Sid was wrong--Riku deserved to be Master. And he was a good teacher to her. He didn't deserve those harsh words.

Kairi looked from Master Yen Sid to her two friends. "Riku," she started, but upon seeing his dejected expression, she stopped. "Um...you know where to find me and Sora if you need us." He nodded, but he didn't look at her. "...See you at dinner." She then left the room, leaving Lightning and Riku to themselves.
Lightning frowned, looking down at the ground as Kairi left. Obviously she didn't want to see Riku's sorrow--it just made Kairi leave the room. It must have been a terrible expression. So instead of looking at him, she just stood in front of him in silence. How did she handle this? She only saw him really upset one other time, and that was when he was angry at his parents.

Riku felt the silence settling in, and he knew it would be uncomfortable. Instead of standing in it, he put a hand on Lightning's shoulder. "Thank you," he told her softly, then walking past her to leave the room. He appreciated her standing up for him. She didn't have to do that, especially after what Master Yen Sid said about him. But...was he right? Was Riku unworthy of being a Master?
Lightning blinked when Riku began to leave, and she wasn't about to let him go alone. He didn't often make her be alone when she was sad, so she would be with him now. She followed swiftly, picking up her gunblade and putting it away as she came to his side. She set a hand on his arm, planning on leading him to the pond. That would be a nice private area where they could calm down.

Riku glanced over at Lightning when she started to lead him down the hall, confusion written in his expression. However, he didn't verbally question her. Instead, he let his eyes rest on the floor, walking in silence.
Lightning led Riku to the pond, and once they were there, she didn't speak. Instead, she gently pressed a hand on his shoulder to encourage him to sit down. This was her first time encouraging him as a girlfriend (if that was what she was--they never used the title), and she was going to try her best to make him feel better.

Riku silently followed the order, lowering himself to the ground and sitting down. He rested his arms on his knees, staring at the water. Was he wrong for standing up to Master Yen Sid? He was just expressing his thoughts... But what if he was wrong?
Lightning sat down behind Riku on her knees, her arms lightly wrapping around his upper torso. She leaned forward and gave him a kiss on the jaw, though she then turned her head to face the other direction. Riku had his privacy now, but he wasn't alone. She was going to stay here with him, whether they spoke or not.

Riku's eyebrows furrowed at the gesture, but not because he didn't appreciate it; he did. But wasn't Lightning mad at him? She did try to keep him quiet after all, but he didn't. Riku was headstrong in that sense; he didn't like to be ordered around. Or put down. Master Yen Sid definitely did the latter, and it hurt.
Lightning began running a hand over Riku, her eyes off to the side as she began to think her own thoughts. Riku was a good Master and teacher--he had to have realized that. He was probably just ticked off at Master Yen Sid for saying things like that. Lightning was angry at him, but mostly, she was angry at herself. If she was doing better, Riku wouldn't have had that argument and he wouldn't be upset right now.

Riku sighed softly, closing his eyes. "Is he right?" he asked after a moment of silence. He opened his eyes, glaring at the pond. "Was it a mistake making me a Master?" It was true that he wasn't respectful, but neither was Master Yen Sid. He only cared about winning, not about what he was doing to the group. At least Riku had a good conscience.
"Of course not," Lightning responded soothingly, continuing to run a hand over his chest. She thought he knew better, but apparently she thought wrong. "You're a great Master and he knows it. He's just angry..." It was obvious he was angry, though Light had never seen him as anything else. Why was he so set against them, and her specifically? Riku was on Master Yen Sid's bad side because of her now.

"He's angry because we're moving too slow," Riku said lowly. "But everyone's moving as quickly as they can. He needs to think about our lives over the war..." But he wasn't. At least Riku was looking after his friends. Master Yen Sid was looking after the sake of the worlds, sure, but they couldn't be saved without the Seven.
Lightning hummed her agreement, turning her face towards Riku's neck again. She didn't try looking at his face--he probably wanted some privacy with that. She shut her eyes and gave him a kiss on the neck, just allowing him to process his thoughts aloud. She'd interact where she was needed to, but she would mostly listen.

"Aqua and I are doing our best to be leaders," Riku said softly. The gesture Lightning performed nearly distracted him, but he was too distressed to let it overcome him. "Master Yen Sid only comes in when he finds it convenient. We're wearing ourselves out trying to keep everything on track. I was hoping we were doing a good job, but...maybe I was wrong." Riku and Aqua were taking things at a slow pace. Would everyone be ready in time? Was Lightning ready? Was Riku ready?
