Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"I'm not going to do anything," Cedric revealed, crossing his arms over his chest. "What happens to Serah is up to Jihl, and Riku if he can save her." Cedric wasn't stupid; he knew Riku was going for the youngest Farron. But he was only being led into a trap. His side of this plan was pointless.

Lightning narrowed her eyes at the words, uncaring that her father knew the truth. She figured that he'd know what was going on regardless of her attempted secrecy. "He can," she said quietly, confidence in her voice. Riku could save Serah, no matter where she was. He came to Light's rescue so many times now--how couldn't she have faith in him? He was her protector, and now he was Serah's too.

"That's where you're wrong," Cedric said, looking out the nearest window. It was daylight in Bodhum, a beautiful day upon them, but Lightning would suffer through Darkness instead. "You see, Riku will fail, and you... You, sweetheart, will suffer the consequences of him leaving you alone." Riku made a mistake in leaving Lightning with Cedric, but he would find that out after the damage was done.

"It sounds like you're underestimating me," Lightning said lowly. She knew that she told herself to stay silent just a few minutes ago, but now she couldn't help but retort against her father. It was distracting her from...something. She didn't know what from yet though.

Cedric only smirked, gazing down at his daughter. "...Your cheeks are flushed, Claire," he revealed quietly. "Your heart's racing and you feel weak, don't you?" He leaned down to be at eye level with her. "Is your vision beginning to swim? Are sounds"--he slammed his hand down on the  table next to her--"much louder than before?"

Lightning nearly choked on the breath that she took in when Cedric slammed his hands down on the table. She should have been prepared for that. He was leading up to it with every word that he said, yet she still jumped. "I don't... know what you're talking about," she lied, trying to focus her eyes on the man in front of her but failing. So this was how she was going to die...Death was terrifying when it was slow like this.

Cedric's smirk remained, and he lifted his hand, snapping his fingers next to Lightning's ear. It would be twice as loud than normal, but that was the point. The more afraid she was, the more she would succumb to the Darkness. This was all part of the plan, and it was coming together perfectly.

Light's eyes widened as she jumped again. She instinctively tugged at the restraints on her arms to cover her ears--to shield herself from the obnoxiously loud noises, but the tendrils of Darkness kept them down. She winced, squeezing her eyes shut as she tried to think. Heart racing. Vision swimming. Loud noise... It was the poison in her tea that caused this, obviously. Was this how her mother suffered?

Cedric couldn't help but laugh at the sight of his daughter so terrified. How pathetic she was! She wouldn't have been fazed without the potion, but it was still serving as some entertainment. After all her defiance, he was thrilled to see her suffer. She deserved this.

Lightning squeezed her eyes tighter, her father's sinister laughter somehow snapping her out of the fear. It's only a potion. It's making things that aren't normally scary terrifying. That's okay. As long as I keep that in mind and realize there's no real danger, I can stay calm. Yet even as she thought those words, her heart leaped into her throat. She wanted to throw up.

"You are so pathetic, sweetheart," Cedric said, opening his eyes to look at his daughter. Lightning didn't get it, did she? "Your mother died within minutes of taking the potion. It drove her to a point of madness. As if I'd let you off that easily!" How ridiculous! Lightning was not going to die.

Focus. Focus... Light couldn't think straight, but she comprehended enough. Her mother died quickly. Lightning wasn't. "What was in my tea?" she asked quietly, keeping her eyes shut so she didn't have to worry about her skewed vision. It wasn't the same potion that her mother took, was it?

Cedric smirked as he leaned forward, whispering into his daughter's ear. "That potion wasn't meant to kill you, Claire," he revealed. "It was meant to teach you fear. I'm going to make you suffer, but I'm also going to make you stronger. You're going to become much stronger than you did with that wretched Keyblade Master. You will gain more strength through your fear...and your pain." This was going to be far from pleasant for her.

Fear. Pain. Suffering. Strength. Lightning pieced together the words in her frazzled mind. The potion was one that increased fear, as she suspected. As for pain, she hadn't felt any...yet. She had this awful feeling that it was going to hit her at any moment now, though not necessarily from the potion.

Cedric remained where he was, reaching behind Lightning to grasp her weapon. He pulled it from its place in the bag around her leg, and he examined it closely. "You've fixed it, haven't you? From the time you defied me before," he realized. He stood upright now, but he kept the gunblade in gun form. He would need this shortly.

Lightning opened her eyes, glaring at her father in silence. He said he was going to teach her through fear and pain. Fine--no problems. As long as she remembered she had no reason to fear, she'd be fine there. And pain--she'd deal with it. She knew things worse than physical pain--wounds to the heart, like the ones her father caused when he betrayed her for the first time.

Cedric looked from the gun to his daughter. "Bad decision on your part," he said, referring to fixing the gunblade. He aimed it at her leg and shot her in the shin without flinching. The gun shot echoed loudly in the room, but it wouldn't be nearly as loud as Lightning's pain.

Claire screamed in pain, feeling the bullet tear right through her muscle and skim her bone. The pain was so extreme that when she instinctively pulled at her hands, she actually ripped through the dark bindings. The thrust of her movement sent her chair toppling backwards, her head hitting the hard kitchen floor and making her thoughts even more clouded.

Cedric flicked his wrist and willed the Darkness to bind Lightning's hands once more, not caring that she fell. Her scream didn't hurt him; it only encouraged him to keep this up. Would Lightning survive this? Cedric didn't know, but she would learn strength before she died if that was the case. This was only the beginning.

Even though her hands were elevated, the dark tendrils had no problem extending and pulling them back down to the arms of the chair. Lightning squeezed her eyes shut, trying to focus on anything but the pain. But that was when she thought of the gunshot. It was unnaturally loud and still ringing in her ears, along with her own scream.

Cedric grabbed a leg of Lightning's chair and roughly sat her upright. He remained in front of her, looking her over. "Do you remember how you defied me? How you shot me so I couldn't track you down?" he asked, voice dangerously low. "The pain was excruciating, worse than what you're feeling now. So here's a reenactment." He lifted the gun and shot Lightning's other leg ruthlessly, a single bullet piercing her lower leg.

Lightning cried out again, squeezing her eyes shut as tightly as she could. Again, everything was far too loud. If her vision wasn't swimming before because of the potion, it was now because of the pain. Her father really did intend to teach her about pain and fear. Normally she was able to think--she was able to be logical even with the potion clouding her mind a minute ago. But the pain combined with the potion--it was all she could do not to let tears flow. Tears were a weakness her father would not appreciate. Aside from controlling the tears, she had nothing. She was a wreck only twenty minutes into her time with her father.

Riku ran down the street of the Islands, thankful the paparazzi weren't hounding him today; he doubted they even knew he was home. It was better to keep it that way. He didn't make eye contact with anyone he passed, focused on reaching Noel's house. He was a few houses down now, and Riku knew that in order to save Serah, he would have to follow Lightning's advice and talk to Sora's younger brother. If Noel was near Serah when Jihl came, maybe he knew something.

Jihl, garbed in the Organization's cloak, leaned her back against the front door of Noel's home. She had been watching everything that happened with Riku, Lightning, and Cedric and she knew that Riku would come here. But he was careless. He was running straight for her and he hadn't even noticed her yet. Your senses are clouded by your worry, Keyblade Master.

Riku skidded to a halt at the end of Noel's yard, the overwhelming stench of the Darkness making him grunt. As did Jihl's presence. His thoughts were so jumbled that he hadn't paid attention to his other senses, something he taught Lightning not to do. He needed to start taking his own advice, especially when it came to an Organization member. "Where's Serah?" he demanded instantly. Jihl better not have hurt her, or Noel. She would suffer if she did.
