Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"We'll talk later," Riku said, frowning at the seventeen year old. I let you in here and twenty minutes later you injure someone who isn't even a recruit. Smooth. "Go." He jerked his head toward the door, giving Snow the cue to leave. The kid took the hint, stepping past a few members and heading toward the exit. Meanwhile Riku returned his attention to Lightning. "How you feeling?" he asked, one hand automatically finding her shoulder.
"I'm fine," Lightning repeated without opening her eyes. She thought she sensed the group still surrounding them, and that irritated her. The question was, were they on her side or Snow's? Did they see her as the victor because she played by the rules? The only reason it mattered to her was because she didn't want them pitying her and thinking she was weak. She wasn't weak at all.

"I'll be the judge of that," Riku said, gazing at Lightning. His eyebrows remained furrowed over his aquamarine eyes as he moved a hand to Lightning's head, where she got hit. Just as he suspected, a bump had already formed. And the Struggle bats weren't soft. She would probably have to go to the hospital to get her head checked out.
Lightning fought the urge to wince when Riku touched close to the hit. "Don't you have ice here or something?" she asked, hearing one of the others finally instruct them all to move on and give her and Riku space to breathe. She was grateful, but still irritated at Snow for more than just the hit to the head. But this took priority over anger. If she just put some ice on the bump for a few minutes, she'd be as good as new, or so she thought.

Riku kept his hand close, though he did move it away when he saw Lightning's slight change in expression. He was suddenly protective. But he knew how Lightning was, so he wouldn't smother her. "I doubt that's going to be enough," he admitted. "You took a pretty hard hit." She may have had a concussion, and he didn't want her getting worse.

"I'm thick headed," Lightning said dryly. She opened her eyes and looked down at the ground, not at any nearby lights or windows. "I'll be fine." If Riku didn't still have a hand on her shoulder, she would have tried to get up by now. But that was probably the point; he wanted her to stay down. No matter how much she insisted, he was going to see her as being hurt.

"Are you nauseous?" Riku asked suddenly, looking down at the girl. He kept his hand on Lightning's shoulder, secure but gentle at the same time. "Are you avoiding lights or feel pain at louder noises?" If that was the case, he was taking her to the hospital. He wasn't going to have her with a concussion.
"Doctor Riku to the rescue," Lightning muttered without answering any of his questions. She did that for a reason. She wasn't feeling nauseous at that moment, but she did a few seconds ago. And the noises had bothered her when Snow was around. Lights were still an issue, but that was because she had a headache from the hit. Lights were always worse when she had a headache.

Riku smirked despite how worried he was. "At least your attitude is still the same," he said in return. "No hit to the head can change that." But still, the fact that she avoided answering his questions set him off. He was going to take her to the hospital just in case; he would pay the bill.
"Of course not," Lightning agreed, glancing over at Riku. "Because it's just a hit to the head." Nothing more, despite how her head was pounding and the light was irritating her. And how she felt faintly nauseous again. Of course, he didn't need to know that.

Riku gave Lightning a look. "I've taken more hits to the head than you can probably count," he said, speaking from experience. "I think it was more than just a hit to the head." He kept his hand on her shoulder, his other hand on his knee now. Snow had a lot of strength, and he hit Lightning hard.
"If you'd let me get up, I'd show you nothing's wrong," Lightning said. Riku's hand was still on her shoulder, and though it wasn't pressing down on her, it wasn't allowing her to stand up either. Once she was on her feet, she'd be able to judge better if she was alright or not. Of course, she wasn't planning on admitting to the latter no matter what.

Riku took his hand away at that, letting go of Lightning completely. If she was so sure, he'd let her have that chance. But he thought she was a little too proud to admit anything was wrong; he could read that the moment he met her.
Lightning set her other hand on the ground, slowly starting to rise. She knew that if she blundered now, Riku would definitely take her to the hospital. Fortunately for her, when she was on her feet, she was balanced and didn't sway at all. "See?" she said, looking over at the young man. "No problems." He didn't have to be so overprotective; a knock to the head wasn't the end of the world.

Riku stood up with Lightning, and he crossed his arms when he saw she was alright. His eyes scanned her form before he nodded. "Fair enough," he said. She appeared to be alright, and he would believe her for now.
Lightning nodded faintly, though she didn't allow her eyes to go up to the ceiling where the lights were. Still too bright. Instead, she shifted her gaze to the door behind Riku. "Guess I'll head out," she declared. There wasn't anything else to do here. True, she hadn't been done with her workout, but with her head pounding like this, she didn't feel like continuing.

Riku wasn't about to object. As worried as he was, he wasn't going to argue with Lightning about it. "Sorry about Snow," he said lowly. If he had known the guy would be so careless, he wouldn't have let him in the gym at all.
"It's not your fault," Lightning said with the faint shake of her head. She glanced back at Riku, serious. "I should have seen the signs earlier on that he wasn't going to follow the rules." Kicking her in the legs, for example. That happened early on. She should have figured that if he was willing to do that, he was willing to break other rules.

Riku didn't say anything, simply gazing at Lightning. Snow was full of himself, and Riku thought that would imply he was tough enough to take on anything. But pride got in the way of that, unfortunately.
Lightning saw how Riku's eyes bore into her, and his thoughts seemed to be on Snow rather than Lightning's hit to the head. She liked it better that way. "Okay," she said after a few moments of silence. "See you." She stepped past Riku and headed for the door, surprising herself when she lifted a hand to the back of her head and smoothed her hair. That was an action out of nervousness, she realized. Why was she nervous?

"Right," Riku said absently, turning to follow Lightning with his eyes. Maybe she didn't have a concussion, but he was still cautious. He knew what hard hits could do, unfortunately. He would check up on her later, to make sure she made it home okay.
Lightning walked through the gym, putting a hand on the door and then pushing it open. She only made one step outside when she stopped dead in her tracks. The light was blinding. She grunted, lifting an arm to shield her eyes even if she closed them. Now it felt like her head was being split open. And the feeling wasn't going away either.

Riku's eyebrows furrowed, since he was still watching Lightning. He saw how she reacted to the light, and he uncrossed his arms as he made his way toward the door. He lightly grasped her arm that was by her side and started to pull her back inside, reaching past her to grab the door handle. She was too sensitive to the light, which meant a concussion was most likely her biggest problem.
Lightning felt herself get pulled back inside, but there was a small difference in height from where she had been standing outside and where Riku was trying to bring her. She managed to get one foot inside but the other foot bumped against the small ledge and she stumbled back a little bit. That was one of two reasons for being off balance. The other reason was how badly her head was hurting.

Riku sensed what was happening, and he brought his other arm back as quickly as possible. His arms wrapped around Lightning's back and shoulders, the boy holding her to him as he grunted in surprise. Well, he hadn't been expecting that.
