Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Light slowly loosened her hold on Riku's undershirt, though it wasn't immediate. It wasn't because of distrust though. In fact, she voiced the opposite. "I trust you," she said quietly as her hand returned to her lap. She knew that when he made a promise, he was going to keep it. He wasn't like her father.

Riku placed a kiss to Lightning's forehead, closing his eyes with the motion. He wasn't sure what his friends were up to right now, but they could deal with him disappearing for a few days; Lightning's safety was more important. He backed away from the bed after a moment and approached his bedroom door, shutting it quietly and then crawling into his bed beside Lightning. He wouldn't be able to sleep, but he knew that the medicine he gave Lightning should have kicked in by now. She would be asleep soon.

Lightning hesitantly laid down, feeling more vulnerable in that position than she did sitting up. But even if she did have to fight, she was in trouble. Her gunblade was still in Bodhum and her Keyblade still didn't show up. And besides all that, she couldn't use her legs. Trust him. Trust Riku. She had no choice, but at least he was a person worth trusting in. She looked up at the ceiling, her eyelids suddenly heavy. The medicine was taking effect.

Riku turned his head, looking over at the girl who rested beside him. He had an arm behind his head to help support him, but he wasn't the one who needed the most support right now. Lightning was. She went through hell and back, and he was going to be there for her. It wasn't like he was needed anywhere else, nor did he want to be anywhere else. Lightning had to know that he was sticking by her through this, no matter what.

Lightning tried to stay still for a while, but she got unnerved by the silence. Everything was going to have her on edge for a while. Just as the sun began to rise outside the apartment, she rolled over onto her side and faced Riku. His hand was down by his side, and he was obviously still awake. She grasped the hand and pulled it towards herself, holding onto it as she finally shut her eyes and let them stay that way. It had been a valiant effort, fighting against the medicine that made her so drowsy. But now she really did need sleep.

Riku kept his gaze on Lightning, and when she grabbed his hand, he gently squeezed it. She wasn't alone in this. He hoped she knew that, because Riku wasn't going anywhere. He was keeping his promise, just like he told her. He was here to stay.

Light curled up tighter, keeping her grasp on Riku's hand. He wouldn't be able to easily leave her now that she had a grip on him. She trusted him not to leave her in her sleep before, but she woke up in the past and he was across the room. That was in The World That Never Was, when he first helped her escape the Organization. Hopefully he learned to stay in her line of sight so she could see him as soon as she woke up.

"Get some sleep," Riku whispered gently. "I'll be here." He would probably fall asleep soon. It was just a matter of time until his adrenaline really wore off and exhaustion caught up with him. He would rest beside Lightning whether he slept or not, though.

Lightning briefly peeked her eyes open, seeing one more time that Riku really was in front of her. Trust him... As her eyes fell shut again, she loosened her grasp on his hand. The fight was over. She passed out right then and there with a heart full of fear and worry, but also safety.

When Riku woke up later that morning, Lightning was still asleep. He had wanted to prepare some food for her, but discovered that his apartment was cleaned out. He hadn't been home in so long that most of the food was spoiled or eaten by Lightning before this mess began. Visiting the store was obviously a necessity, and since Riku didn't want to take Lightning out after all she went through the day before, he called Roxas. The blond was doing a good job at watching over Namine, so Riku figured he could hang out with Lightning for a little while. When Roxas got to the apartment, Riku made sure to be strict with him; there was no talking to Lightning, and no eye contact, but he had to stay in the same room. Riku didn't want her left alone. When Roxas agreed to his terms, Riku left. Of course, he rushed himself, both to avoid the paparazzi that could spot him and to get back to the girl back home.

Roxas sat on the couch in Riku's living room, staring at the television even though it was turned off. Lightning was still back in Riku's bedroom, alone. She had requested that he leave her alone (or rather, she ordered it), and considering it was her speaking for herself, Roxas thought her directions took precedence over Riku's. That was the easiest solution  he could think of, anyway. Lightning clearly wanted to be left alone after he disregarded Riku's first rule and started talking to her.

Riku unlocked the door to his apartment, one arm carrying the groceries as he stepped in. After shutting the door behind him, he noticed the blond on the couch...and no Lightning. "...Roxas," he said lowly. Riku gave him strict orders to stay with her. Was she alright?

Uh-oh, Roxas thought immediately. He rose to his feet, rubbing the back of his head as he looked to Riku and the food. "She said that she wanted to be alone," he said honestly. Yeah, he may have instigated that desire, but it wasn't on purpose. He just wanted to know what the heck was going on in this Keyblade War that he was supposed to be a part of.

Riku's eyebrows furrowed. "So you talked to her," he stated. It was obvious by Roxas's nervous habit--one he shared with Sora. Riku fought the urge to roll his eyes and set the groceries down on the nearest counter. "I told you not to do that. I told you just to sit there. How is that so difficult for you?"

Roxas shrugged, not seeing the big deal since he was in the dark. "I wanted to know what was going on." The two of them showed up randomly on the Islands, Lightning not speaking and Riku going out to buy food. What, were they sticking around for a while? What happened to the war?

"If that was any of your business I would have told you," Riku said lowly, his tone holding bite. This was aggravating, and worrisome. Was Lighting okay? She didn't leave, did she? No, she couldn't have... She couldn't walk. But what if she tried and now she was lying on the floor and Roxas didn't even know? Riku looked from Roxas to the hall and started down it instantly, hoping Lightning was alright.

"H-hey," Roxas tried to call after Riku. The older teen was wrong; Roxas did have a right to know. He didn't need to know the intimate details of what brought the couple to the islands, but they could have at least told him what was going on with everyone else. He didn't like being out of the loop, even if he did renounce his place as a Keyblade wielder in the past. But that changed now, so why wouldn't anyone talk to him about what was happening?

Riku marched toward his door and went to open it, but was met with resistance. Lightning locked the door. He blinked in alarm before throwing his body weight against it a few times, finally getting it to swing open. Of course, the lock wouldn't work on the door anymore, but that was the least of his concerns. "Lightning?"

Lightning was sitting up, her legs over the side of the bed as soon as she heard the banging on the door. She hadn't been listening in to Riku and Roxas's conversation, so the first sign that she had of somebody coming towards her was that loud banging. "What?" she asked, startled as she looked at Riku. What did he come barging in for? He startled her so much that she unconsciously grasped the lamp next to the bed, ready to swing it if any enemy came near her. But now that it was Riku, she just kept hold of the lamp because she didn't think to let it go.

Riku's alarmed eyes located Lightning and the lamp she was holding, but despite that, he released a heavy breath in relief. He lifted a hand and pinched the bridge of his nose as he closed his eyes, willing his body to relax. She was fine. Nothing was wrong. She was safe.

Lightning blinked at Riku's reaction, her grasp on the lamp loosening. If you don't tell me what the heck is going on, I'll throw this lamp at you, she would have said before this whole ordeal jokingly. Now she just stared at Riku in confusion. He just broke down his own bedroom door and now he was just standing there.

"Sorry," Riku said, lowering his hand. His aquamarine eyes fell on Lightning's blue. "I just got...worried." After yesterday, leaving the room was hard for Riku to do. Lightning was sensitive to the smallest of things. Surely he didn't help by breaking down the door.

You got worried? Lightning wanted to say. You have a Keyblade to fight people with and functioning legs. How do you think I feel when you barge in like that and all I have is a lamp?! But she didn't feel like picking a fight with Riku, or speaking much at all, so she kept her thoughts to herself as she set her jaw. Roxas's interactions with her earlier had her in a foul mood, though yesterday's events were far worse than any of Roxas's questions.

Riku glanced behind him down the hall, seeing Roxas in the living room. Just the reminder of what he did to Lightning had Riku peeved again, but he decided to focus on her instead. "I just went to the store," he said, turning back around. "I had to get some food. I called Roxas to watch over you while I was gone. Obviously that wasn't a good idea." He grimaced. "I'm sorry."

Lightning nodded, already aware of everything Riku said. Roxas told her as much when she woke up and he was gone. She was a little peeved that he left her when she slept since he promised to stay with her, but she supposed it was unfair to expect him to stay still for that long. She finally released the lamp, allowing her hand to return to her lap. She wouldn't have to throw the lamp at anyone, thank goodness.
