Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku wasn't sure what else to say. He felt like apologizing again, because he went back on his word; he didn't stay until Lightning woke up. He wasn't there when she opened her eyes. Roxas probably didn't do anything wrong--other than speak of course--and Lightning was aggravated with Riku instead. It seemed logical enough.

Roxas awkwardly stepped into the room, seeing Lightning's eyes go to him. Geez, and he thought she was ticked before...Her look earlier had nothing on this. "I'm gonna head back to Namine," he said as he scratched at his cheek. "See you guys later." He started out, knowing he probably wasn't wanted there anymore. That was fine with him; he was hesitant to leave Namine alone, even if her rough experiences with the Organization were several weeks ago now.

Riku opened his mouth to thank Roxas for at least watching Lightning, but the boy was already gone. The fact that he was so willing to go back to Namine spoke volumes about Roxas, but that was something Riku would ponder another day. Instead, he looked to Lightning, not sure what to do or say. How was she? Was she better after some rest? By her grabbing the lamp, he guessed not.

Lightning noticed Riku's awkwardness despite all that was going on inside her head. Despite how he came in here in a panic, she still paid attention to what he said. He went to the store for food. "Go," she said, nodding her head towards the door. "Groceries." He probably didn't put them away when he rushed in the apartment and body-slammed the bedroom door.

"...Right," Riku replied with a nod. He turned, lifting a hand to rub the back of his neck as he left the room. He would be sure to ask Lightning if she wanted something to eat once he had everything sorted, but there wasn't much to do otherwise. There was a television in his room, so maybe they could watch a movie later or something. But they wouldn't leave the apartment; Lightning couldn't walk, and Riku didn't want the paparazzi bothering her.

Lightning stared down at her legs in the silence, starting to lightly kick them through the air for a long time. With every little movement, her legs screamed in pain. She could practically feel the bullets from yesterday, though they all went straight through her legs and weren't there anymore. But what could she do? Painful or not, she had to regain control of her legs. She couldn't...be weak.

In the time that passed, Riku took it upon himself to make Lightning some chicken noodle soup. From what he could remember of their time living together before Xehanort, it was her favorite kind. Maybe this would help her to forgive him for breaking his promise and leaving her with Roxas. He went into his bedroom with the soup on a tray, some crackers and a glass of water on it as well. But seeing her kicking her legs like she was... It hurt. His eyes softened at the sight. That was all the movement she could do, and even then she looked like it hurt. Why did I let her go?

Lightning looked up towards the doorway when Riku came in, glad she was already facing that way. Otherwise, she would have had no signs that he even entered since he was so quiet. When she looked up to his eyes and saw that sad look, she stopped swinging her legs and lowered her gaze to the tray.

"I, uh, figured you haven't eaten in a while, so..." Riku trailed off, sitting down next to Lightning and resting the tray in his lap. He wasn't sure how else to put it; Lightning needed to eat after what happened with Cedric. She was with him for twelve hours without food or water. The water he had already taken care of the night before, but not the food. Lightning needed fuel.

Though Lightning felt nauseous because of the sick events of the previous day, she didn't voice that. She only dipped her head faintly and reached across Riku's lap so she could transfer the tray to her own. She did have to eat some time. Even if she did end up throwing this up, she had to try to get something in her stomach.

When Riku's lap was free of the tray, he rested his hands against his jeans. "So..." he started softly, looking from his lap to the girl beside him. "What did Roxas say to you?" He obviously said something or Lightning wouldn't have kicked him out. Roxas always was rebellious, even with small things.

Lightning touched the spoon, grasping it gently as she kept her gaze on the soup. It obviously came from a can and wasn't homemade like the soup Riku made before. She took a spoonful of it anyway, swallowing one before answering the question in a not-so-helpful way. "Nothing important."

"It was obviously important if you kicked him out of the room," Riku mentioned gently, his eyes staying on Lightning even if she didn't return the eye contact. He wanted to make sure she was going to be okay, even if it did take some time for that to happen. Riku was going to be there every step of the way. She could count on that.

Lightning moved on to her third spoonful. "Stupid things," she self-corrected. She made Riku wait for her to swallow that spoonful before she elaborated. "Keyblade War things." That all seemed so stupid now in light of everything that happened. She supposed it should have been more important to her, considering she had a Keyblade even if it decided not to appear when she needed it.

Riku blinked at the mention of the War. He hadn't thought about it for what felt like days, even if it had only been hours. "...Oh," he said, looking ahead. "I guess I should have told him there was no point. There isn't going to be a war, by the looks of things." That was relieving, it really was. It meant Lightning wouldn't die, even if she had come close yesterday. But at least Xehanort wouldn't be the cause... Stupid. What difference does it make? You couldn't protect her. What kind of boyfriend are you?

Lightning silently nodded, continuing with her soup. There wasn't really anything to add. She probably should have just told Roxas what was going on herself, but she didn't have the patience for his questions. The only person she had some patience for was Riku, and that was because while he made plenty of mistakes, he still tried to be patient with her when she made her own errors. Like going with her father.

Riku moved one of his hands, hesitant at first. But he rested his hand lightly on Lightning's knee, his thumb running over her sweatpants. She knew he was there for her whenever she wanted to talk. If the silence was too much, she would bring up a conversation with him. He had faith that she would be strong enough to talk about what happened eventually. It would just take some time.

Lightning finished the soup after a few minutes, and she drank nearly all the water as well. She couldn't say whether she felt better or worse after all that, but at least having food in her system made Riku feel better. She sat the tray on the bed next to her, glancing down at her legs one more time and seeing Riku's hand on her knee. After a moment or two, she reached towards it and set her own hand on top of his.

Riku stopped his motion when Lightning set her hand on his. He was very cautious around her now; he didn't want to scare her away. He would never treat her the way Cedric did, that was a given. But sudden movements or too loud of noises and she was on edge. Riku didn't want to put her through anything like that.

Light curled her fingers around Riku's hand lightly, not looking over to meet his gaze even though he'd been staring at her for a while when she was eating. Even if he wasn't staring now, she was slightly amused that he told Roxas not to stare when he dared to do so much of it. Nevertheless, she began doing what she was doing earlier: lightly kicking her legs through the air, despite the pain.

Riku turned his hand in Lightning's grasp and held hers in return, watching her kick her legs. He knew it hurt her. He wasn't blind to her pain. How could he be? "...Maybe I should take you to the doctor," he said lowly. She couldn't walk. What even happened to her? Why were her legs so sore?

Lightning stopped swinging her legs at the comment, also loosening her hold on Riku's hand. He was too observant; she didn't want him to notice her pain. And anyway, going to a doctor wasn't going to help anything so... "No," she said quietly. He wasn't taking her to a doctor.

"My spell obviously didn't work, Light," Riku said, looking from her legs to her. His grasp tightened on her hand when hers loosened. "Maybe it's something I can't fix." It would be a first, but if a doctor was needed, he would take her. Riku wanted her free of pain as soon as possible.

You're right about one thing. You can't fix it. "Your spell worked fine," Lightning said, kicking her legs again to distract herself. She winced at the pain the movement caused, but she tried to restrain any other signs of pain. She was hurting enough for both her and Riku; she didn't need to make him feel bad.

I don't think so, Riku thought in silence, watching Lightning for a moment before his gaze fell to his lap. What could he do for her that he hadn't tried already? She needed a doctor, or at least some physical therapy. Maybe that was it... Maybe he could help her with that, at his gym.
