Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku's Keyblade went slack in his hand as he stared at Jihl's back....and the Keyblade that came through it. It was Lightning's Keyblade. After all this time, it finally made its presence. And by what Riku could see of Lightning's face, she didn't expect it at all. The Keyblade Riku passed onto Lightning was truly hers.

Lightning looked to Jihl's face, startled when she saw the life fade away until there was nothing left. I killed her. For some reason, it made Lightning sick. A few weeks ago when confronted by Jihl, she had a chance to kill her and couldn't. And now she killed her so easily... Lightning herself felt dead as she shoved Jihl away and stumbled back a few steps, her Keyblade remaining in Jihl and not in her hand.

Riku watched Jihl fall to the ground in a lifeless heap, but then his eyes found the newest Keyblade wielder. She didn't look good. "...Lightning?" he called softly. His eyes danced from her to the Keyblade that glowed blue with electricity. He looked back to her, not knowing what to say. Was she okay?

Though the room spun, Lightning forced herself to keep it together. She put both her hands on the bike, looking down at it. Be practical. Keep it together. Riku's still... He still had those wounds, and he couldn't use magic. She wasn't good at healing spells yet; Aqua mostly taught her offensive magic in their training. "Are there...Do you...have potions?" Not for her, but for him.

"No," Riku said, looking down at Jihl's body when it began to fade away. If her body faded now, he was sure Cedric's was gone as well. There was no evidence against Lightning, except the video that kept playing. But Riku ignored it. He had to focus on the Lightning he was with now.

Lightning nodded slightly, slowly lowering herself to the ground. Everything hurt so badly--her heart, her legs, and her head. But none of those could be healed as easily as Riku's legs. She shut her eyes, trying to focus. She had to at least try to heal Riku's legs.

What do I do? Riku asked himself. He could barely walk...and that stupid video was still playing throughout the gym. He hated hearing it, and surely Lightning did too. Could he comfort her while it was still playing? He doubted it, so... "I'll be right back, okay? I'm gonna go shut that crap off," he said, grunting as he forced himself to walk. It hurt, but the bullets weren't in his legs; he had the freedom to move, even if it did hurt. He would hurry for Lightning's sake.

Riku was still within Lightning's range as she cast the Cure spell that Aqua taught her. She had focused it solely on Riku's legs, so none of the spell went to waste healing what wasn't hurt in the first place. She couldn't see it from her spot even if she did have her eyes open, so she hoped that the spell had some effect at least.

Riku looked down when he felt a cool sensation wash over his legs, and that was when he saw the faintest color of green. The glow vanished after a moment, and he looked back at Lightning. She healed him... When did she learn that spell? Riku gazed at her for a moment before he moved more quickly to the back room, finding the tape and stopping it before dropping the disc like it was poisoned. As far as he was concerned, it was.

Be careful, Aqua had warned Lightning in the past. When you run out of mana and you want to cast a spell, you can borrow some of your own energy to cast it. But it'll make you weak. Was that what she as feeling now? Or was she feeling weak because that was what she was? Someone weak, who was set up to be strong her whole life but wasn't strong at all.

Riku made his way back to Lightning a lot easier thanks to her spell, and by the time he was close, Jihl was gone. Now Lightning's Keyblade rested on the floor, sparks and all. He bent down to pick it up in silence, examining it and feeling the power that it was made of. Just like Lightning felt Riku through his blade, Riku felt her through this one. Courage, determination, care, strength, and love. Those were all the things he felt with Lightning's blade. It gave him warmth. Riku looked from the blade to the girl on the floor, who he approached and sat down beside, his Keyblade gone while hers rested in his hands.

Lightning had her eyes half-open, her gaze resting on the floor. She not only saw Riku out of the corner of her eye, but she also saw the Keyblade that he held. Her Keyblade. I don't want to see it right now, she thought. It would just remind her of what she did...and who she became. It disappeared out of Riku's hold, finding its resting-place in Lightning's heart just because of her thoughts.

Riku looked at his hand when the Keyblade disappeared, but then he turned his head to focus on the girl beside him. "...Thank you," he told her softly. She didn't have to heal him, but she did it anyway. He wasn't sure where Lightning learned the spell, but he appreciated it.

Lightning nodded faintly, glancing over at Riku's legs. "Did it work?" she asked quietly. Or was he just thanking her for trying to heal him? She was sure he wasn't thanking her for intervening with Jihl. He told her early on to stay out of it, but she disobeyed and fought back anyway. She was good at disobeying him and his orders.

Riku wordlessly reached down and pulled his pant leg up. There was a lot of blood, but the wounds closed up. "Looks like it did," he said with the faintest smile. He glanced from his leg to Lightning. Her spell must have been stronger than his, because his spell didn't heal her completely. She still couldn't walk, right?

Lightning felt a smile tug at her lips because of relief. "I'm glad," she said quietly. She really didn't get as much magic training as she should have with Aqua because of all the craziness, but it was enough to heal Riku today. That was the only good thing she could think of at the moment though.

Riku pulled his pant leg back down and lifted a hand to cup the back of Lightning's head. He then leaned forward, pressing a kiss to her temple. "...You were strong," he murmured against her skin, "no matter what they said." Lightning was strong with Cedric, and she was strong with Jihl. Both of them were just too blinded by the Darkness and fury to see it.

Lightning shut her eyes, taking in the words. She was strong? Then why did she feel so weak? Warriors shouldn't have felt sick after taking the lives of their enemies. She wasn't strong enough in her own eyes, or Jihl's, or her father's. Only in Riku's--and his perspective was the one she wanted to adopt. She wanted to be good enough.

Riku held the kiss for another moment before pulling back, looking at Lightning in silence. He ran his thumb over her hair. "...Do you want to go home?" he asked softly. His apartment, or his parents' place...where Serah was. Riku didn't feel like he was enough to help Lightning get through this. Maybe she needed her sister.

Lightning nodded faintly. She most certainly didn't want to stay in this place. Though she doubted she would be able to silence her thoughts even once they were at Riku's apartment, being there would still be better than being here at the scene of the crime.

Riku nodded slightly and rose to his feet, then offering Lightning his hands. Unless she said she wanted to see Serah, he wouldn't push it. After what just happened, he had a feeling confronting her sister was the last thing Lightning wanted to do. That was what was bothering her, though, wasn't it? That she killed someone, even if they deserved to die.

Lightning locked her jaw, lowering her gaze to her legs. "I can't," she said quietly. "They're worse..." Her legs hurt so much worse than they had before. Normally they were just sore when she sat still, but now they were pounding and burning in pain even after she had been sitting down for a few minutes. She didn't think that she could stand at all now.

Riku smiled faintly, stepping over and bending down. "That's okay," he said lowly, gently reaching under Lightning's legs and around her back. He then brought her to his chest and started out of the gym. Neither of them would want to be here for a while, but that was alright.

Lightning and Riku were back in his apartment shortly after they left, since nobody saw them up in the sky on his glider. He set her on the couch as soon as they came in, and she stayed silent just like she had for the entire ride home. She didn't feel good and she didn't know it, but she didn't look very good either with the green tint on her face.

Riku went and got Lightning a bottle of water before taking a seat beside her. Upon seeing her face, his eyebrows furrowed. He studied her while she stared at nothing, and he felt bad. This was about Jihl. She felt awful for killing someone, didn't she? True, she killed Cedric, which was out of self-defense, but wasn't this the same? Jihl threatened to shoot her, and nearly did.
