Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Lightning looked across the room, blinking when things blurred. "I don't feel good," she murmured, though she wasn't sure if she expected Riku to do anything about it or not. She felt...faint. Aside from still being dehydrated, the imaginary pain in her legs was overwhelming. She pushed herself too hard trying to get to the front door--way too hard.

"I know," Riku said with a frown, looking from Lightning to the ground. He knew she didn't feel good, but what did she expect him to do? Whenever he tried to help her, he failed. Maybe it was wise that he didn't offer his assistance. Lightning would be better off.

"No," Lightning said quietly, lifting a hand to her spinning head. "I don't...feel good." The green color from earlier was gone now--it had been replaced by rosy red cheeks when she was angry and now sickly pale ones. When she looked at Riku's face--his upset, hurt face, she couldn't focus on it.

Riku lifted his gaze when he heard Lightning struggle to speak again, and that was when his eyes widened. Her pupils were dilated, and that could only mean that she would pass out. "Lightning," he said, worry in his voice as he lifted a hand to her arm. He didn't understand... Why did she feel so sick? Her face was white, not green like before. It scared him.

Lightning felt Riku's hand on her arm--her arm covered in cold sweat contrasting against Riku's warmth. She couldn't think. All she could process was that she really didn't feel good. Even with her head still lying on the ground, she felt like the entire room was spinning. Looking at Riku only made her feel more disoriented, so she slowly let her eyes flicker shut.

Riku leaned closer to Lightning and moved his other hand to brush back her bangs. They were damp with sweat. Her head was hot as well. "Light," he said again, unaware that his voice could be echoing in her ears. He wasn't sure what was happening, but he had a feeling she would pass out on him soon.

No, don't...don't pass out. Lightning heard that voice echoing in her ear. Riku was worried. Riku was someone she cared about and someone that she didn't want to hurt, even if he hurt her... She slowly moved her hand from her head to the knee in front of her, opening her mouth to try and ask what was even wrong with her.

"Lightning, open your eyes," Riku requested, voice laced with concern. She was fine just a second ago, right? Did he push her too hard when he told her to "leave"? Was Riku at fault for yet another problem with Lightning? Would it ever stop?

How many times had Lightning heard Riku tell her that? Yesterday with Cedric, he told her to look at him. When escaping the Organization's castle, he told her, "Keep those pretty eyes on me." She swallowed, finally managing to make one sentence... "Only...if you call them pretty," she muttered. He had to tell her to look at him with her pretty eyes.

"Lightning..." Riku said in disbelief. This was no time to be cute, but...hearing her say that gave him hope. Maybe he hadn't screwed up completely. He kept a hand against her cheek, gazing at her with worried eyes. "...Open your pretty eyes," he asked, giving in. Lightning needed to try and stay awake.

Lightning felt a slight smile tug at her lips. "They are...pretty, aren't they?" she murmured. She began to force her heavy eyelids open, Riku not in her direct line of vision. It was hard enough just to open them, so she didn't try to focus in on Riku yet. The room wasn't as blurry as it had been a minute ago. The wave was passing over her.

Riku smiled faintly. "Beautiful," he agreed, taking his hand back from her cheek. He still had a light hold on her arm, but he moved it to grip her shoulder instead. Lightning seemed like she was getting better, so was this whole thing just a spell?

Lightning shut her eyes halfway--that way, at least Riku's legs were in her line of vision. She had something that she wanted to say. "But...taking out your anger...on someone just because they made mistakes...isn't beautiful," she said slowly. "I'm sorry." Deep down inside, she knew Riku was doing the best he could. He didn't deserve the harsh words she gave him a few minutes ago.

Riku's smile faded, a small sigh leaving him after a moment. He shifted to hold Lightning in his arms, then rising to his feet. "I deserved it," he mumbled, starting toward his bedroom. Lightning was obviously tired, and it was late. He would let her rest in his room for the night.

Finally feeling some clarity, Lightning looked up at the young man who held her. "Maybe," she agreed quietly as she looked at his jaw. "But you deserve my thanks, too." He did...so much. He sought her out when she was kidnapped. He stood up for her against her father. He trained her to be strong and gave her his trust when she passed on her wisdom to him. So much more had happened in just the past few days that she was grateful for. He was a true friend despite his shortcomings.

Riku glanced down at Lightning, but otherwise didn't say anything. What did she need to thank him for? Getting her possessed by the Guardian, having her get wrapped up in the Seven Lights, then facing her father... Riku wasn't very good at this whole guardian-boyfriend thing.

"You keep fighting," Lightning said quietly, her eyelids briefly heavy and forcing her to focus on keeping them open. "You always fight for me. I always thought I would be fighting alone..." But he proved her wrong. He was by her side even when it wasn't pleasant.

Now you're being too nice, Riku wanted to say. He was convinced her fever was making her delusional, but he would never say that. It would only upset Lightning, something he had become quite good at lately. Instead, Riku entered his room and began to set Lightning down on his bed. She needed to sleep.

Even after Riku began to pull away once Lightning was set on the bed, she reached for his hand and held to it. "I'm aware of what I'm saying," she said quietly. Her head was too fuzzy for her to lift her gaze closer to Riku's face because of a light behind him, so she kept her gaze on his hand. "You keep telling me to trust you. Maybe I will...if you start trusting me."

Riku stayed bending down, one hand on the bed as he glanced from Lightning's grip to her face. "...What do you mean?" he asked softly. What was she talking about? So she wasn't delusional, but...he thought she knew that he trusted her. What gave him reason not to?

"Trust what I'm saying right now," Lightning said quietly. "I never thought that anybody would ever fight for me. But you...you did so much more than that. You never stopped fighting. Everyone else would have walked away a long time ago. ...Yeah, you're different than you were. But you're still fighting for me like  you did back then..." She slowly pulled in Riku's hand, holding it close to her mouth as her eyes fully shut. "...Thank you."

Riku couldn't smile, too in shock of what he was hearing. Just a few minutes ago Lightning questioned her faith in him, and now she was saying she appreciated his efforts. It was confusing, but he accepted it all the same. "...You're welcome," he said with a small nod. Riku would never stop fighting for Lightning.

"I don't trust your promises," Lightning said, lowering the hand to her lap. "You still say things you don't mean. I won't trust your words for a while. But at least your actions show me you're still the Riku I befriended." For now, that would have to be enough. But there was something else that needed to be done: she needed to pass out. She still wasn't feeling good at all.

That you befriended. Nothing more. Right...Riku thought, slowly taking his hand back. "Okay," he said with a faint nod. "I'll...uh...leave you to rest." He would sleep elsewhere tonight. He wouldn't promise anything, like being with her when she woke up, because he couldn't keep his promises. It would be a waste.

"That a promise?" Lightning mumbled as she began to crawl down so her side was on the mattress. "I'd be okay...if you...broke that one..." As soon as her head hit the pillow, Lightning was knocked out. She wasn't sure whether she would remember those words in the morning or not, or if Riku would be with her. What she did know was that when she woke up in the morning, she had to feel at least slightly better than she did then.
