Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Roxas arched a brow, looking from the screen to Riku. Needless to say, he still didn't get what was going on. While he was frustrated with Riku's secrecy, he knew better than to interrupt the video when Riku looked so...unlike himself. Normally he was calm and composed, but he didn't look that way now.

The video faded to black, and all Riku could do was stare at the blank screen. Seifer turned in the tape. The police saw the edited footage. He closed his eyes and ground his teeth together. Riku said he would hunt down whoever had the tape, but he was too late. He failed again. But...wait... If Seifer turned in the video around an hour ago, like Riku assumed he did, that meant the police had already watched it. Riku's eyes shot open in a flash, and he looked to Roxas and Namine briefly before bolting for the door.

"Riku?" Namine called, but he was already out the door. He looked...frantic, but why? What was going on? What happened between Lightning and Cedric?

"Riku! Hey!" Roxas called, rising to his feet and looking after the teen. "Let us help!"  But naturally, Riku didn't hear him finish that second sentence. Whatever was going on, Roxas didn't just want to know what it was--he wanted to know how to fix it. He and Riku had their struggles in the past, but that didn't mean they couldn't help each other out now.

Riku didn't bother turning back, nor did he bother being subtle. He summoned his glider and took off for his apartment instantly, heart racing with fear. The police were probably on their way to his apartment right now, wanting to get Lightning. But they couldn't! She was innocent! He had to help her...even if he failed in the past.

Lightning hardly struggled against the two men that held onto her upper arms, not that she could in the first place with her legs being how they were. She had been asleep when she heard a banging against the front door. All she had time to do was sit up in the bed before the door was forced open and the officers stormed the apartment. Obviously they found her and since her legs looked normal, they didn't believe her when she said that she couldn't walk. The three just exited the hall now, and once more, Lightning stumbled. This was bad in two ways: her fear of going to jail was becoming a reality, and the cops were forcing her to walk when she couldn't. She was in so much pain that everything about her was turning dull...

"Stop stalling," an officer ordered. "Up on your feet." He and his partner got a tip about this girl, who brutally murdered a man and taped the whole thing. It was sick really, but this was part of the job. As well as dealing with people who dreaded jail so much they stalled the trip.

Lightning looked over at the officer who spoke, her face pale due to pain. "I can't..." she tried to explain again, her voice weak. She knew that she wasn't going to convince him or his partner, who yanked her arm and forced her to stand up straighter. She was absolutely going to jail, but she had a new question now: how soon was she going to pass out?

The officer rolled his eyes and pulled the girl to her feet alongside his partner, practically dragging her down the hall. This was ridiculous. It was late and he didn't want to deal with a girl whining about going to jail. Maybe she shouldn't have murdered that man.

Riku didn't bother with the elevator, taking the stairs. He threw the door open, and it collided with the wall as he stepped around the corner and saw Lightning getting dragged down the hall. He grunted in fear. No... "There's been a mistake," he tried, walking toward the officers, one of them holding up his hand to tell Riku to keep back. As if that was going to work.

Lightning lifted her head, seeing Riku standing across the room--between the three and the door. He was her only hope now. Whether she trusted his words or not, she trusted him to do the right thing. Riku...But there was something else. I'll faint. I'm going to faint. She'd hold on as long as she could but her legs were burning and trembling because of the pain.

"I wouldn't come closer if I were you," said the officer. "Unless you would like to be arrested as well." He knew who the teen was...a Keyblade wielder. But even Keyblade wielders weren't above the law.

"No, listen," Riku said, still walking toward them. "She's been framed, I swear. I have the pr--"

"Enough," the officer ordered. "We saw the footage ourselves. Don't try to fool us, Keyblader." He wasn't going to bow down to the wielder like everyone else on the Islands. If the kid kept pushing things, he would join the girl.

"You don't understand," Riku said, frowning. Now he was just getting aggravated. "She didn't do what you think she did. It was out of self-defense!" He wouldn't let Lightning get taken away from him, not again.

The officer reached into his holster and pulled out his gun, pointing it at Riku. "I suggest you stop," he said lowly. If Riku came closer, then the officers would be within his range. Yes, he was known as the most composed Keyblade wielder on the islands, but with how he was acting now, the officer was nervous. He would shoot if he had to.

Riku stopped in his tracks, hands lifting immediately. "Whoa, easy..." he said, voice low in caution. He didn't threaten them in any way, so why was one aiming his gun? The other held Lightning tightly, and glancing at her, Riku wanted to rush to her side. Couldn't they see she wasn't well? It was Cedric's fault. If they had seen the real footage, they would know that!

"Back off and let us do our job," the officer warned once more. He just wanted to take Lightning and throw her in a jail cell immediately. She deserved it for her actions. How did she not think she'd be caught for this? He'd make sure she saw justice and that the man she murdered could rest in peace.

Riku glanced from the gun to the officer. What he didn't realize was that Riku could easily dodge that bullet, but this didn't have to resort to violence...at least until now. "Let me do mine," he said, eyebrows furrowing. He then gritted his teeth and teleported, appearing behind the two officers and Lightning as one of them gasped in alarm. Riku then knocked the two officers heads together with brute force, surely knocking them unconcious.

Lightning fell to her knees between the officers, a breath of relief leaving her as soon as she was able to take the weight off her legs. Riku was behind her, so she couldn't see him, but it was obvious what just happened. Riku, what are you thinking?! This world may have hated her now, but now they'd hate Riku too...

Riku looked between the officers before stepping over one of their bodies to be beside Lightning. He wordlessly wrapped his arm around her back and then her legs, lifting her to his chest as he headed for the stairs. Those officers were the only ones here, so Riku would be in the clear. He knew now that Lightning was a "murderer" and he assaulted two officers, their company wouldn't be wanted. It was time to go somewhere else.

Lightning's eyes widened briefly in surprise, her weak and weary eyes going up to the face of the friend who held her. "Riku," she protested quietly, so many questions behind that one name. Why would he go to such extremes? Why would he set himself up for his world to hate him? Where were they going? The last thing said by the name wasn't a question but a statement. I can't hold on. Even if she was off her legs, the pain was so extreme that she was sure she would pass out now.

"It's okay," Riku said, glancing down at Lightning as he descended the stairwell. But he didn't look at her for long; he couldn't. If he failed her again, what would he do? No, it was out of the question. He had to get her off the Islands, before the police tracked them both down.

Somehow, Riku's simple response answered all of Lightning's questions. He knew what he just did, and he didn't regret it. He would never regret helping her because he was Riku. Helping people was what he did. And even now, that was what he was doing, at the stake of his own reputation and even his life. It's okay... She took that to mean that it was okay to pass out and let him handle matters. She did so, shutting her eyes and letting the side of her head rest on his shoulder. I leave it to you.

Once Riku was on the first floor, he snuck out the back of the apartment building. He willed his Keyblade to appear in glider form and climbed on, letting Lightning rest in his lap as his arms caged her in. In the darkness of the night, he flew back to Namine's apartment, where he hid in the shadows and out of sight. He dialed Roxas as soon as he was hidden. "Roxas, don't ask questions. Just meet me behind the building. We need to leave the Islands. Bring Namine with you." They couldn't take any risks. They would come for Roxas because he was a Keyblade wielder too, and could know Riku's whereabouts. They couldn't take any chances.

Naturally, Roxas wanted to protest. He hated being kept in the dark and he hated being ordered around. But even more than that, Namine just experienced trauma. He didn't want to make her worse by forcing her to leave her home, but Riku obviously knew something that they didn't. He urged Namine along and they met Riku out back before flying to a safe haven: Disney Castle.

Namine had her arms wrapped tightly around Roxas's waist, never a big fan of heights. It didn't help that they were on his glider and there wasn't much room for two people...and that they were very high off the ground. She gazed below as the wind whipped her hair, thankful they were descending. This was terrifying, an experience she didn't need alongside what other disasters occurred recently.

Sora was in the courtyard where the gliders descended, the teen blinking in both relief and confusion. "Hey!" he called to the two pairs, rising to his feet as he went out to meet them. But then he saw them: Namine scared and Lightning unconscious. He stopped where he was, looking from Roxas to Riku. "What's goin' on?" Riku and Lightning were supposed to be back two days ago from off-world training but they never showed. And Roxas was supposed to be on the islands with Namine.

Riku lifted Lightning back into his arms, upset that she was still unconscious. "The Organization isn't so organized anymore," he revealed, glancing over at Roxas and Namine as the girl stepped off the glider. "They've split up. The remaining members got revenge any way they could." He looked from Namine to Lightning to Sora, hoping his friend caught the hint. All four of them were victims, but the girls suffered worse.

"Wait, what?" Roxas said in unison with Sora. He looked from the silver-haired teen to Namine, his anger and impatience reaching a limit as he connected some dots. "You knew about this the other day when I sat with her, didn't you?!" he said in reference to Lightning. "And you didn't warn me?!" He would have done something--anything--to keep Namine safe from Seifer. Why didn't Riku tell him so he could protect Namine? He wanted to slug him for all his secrecy...
