Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku rolled his eyes, approaching the couch and setting Lightning down. "You abuse the Keyblade's power, it rejects you," he informed her. "I'm good." The Keyblade was really all he had, apart from his friends and the Corps. Well, the Corps was still building up, even if some people called him crazy for it. Whatever.
"But you are abusing your power of...well, whatever you are when it comes to me," Lightning said, sitting down on the couch and looking up at Riku. "It's my choice if I go to work or not, not yours." Although at this point, she pretty much had to call out. Hopefully her boss wouldn't be too annoyed about the short notice, since Lightning really had no excuse except that Riku was forcing her to stay home. What gave him the authority to do that?

Riku crossed his arms, looking away at that logic. "Women," he muttered. They were all the same; they always had to point out the obvious and use it against men. He knew that this was her choice, but did she really try to fight him off? No, not really. He won the moment he showed up. Why? He wasn't quite sure, but Riku was willing to do some digging in order to find out.
Lightning arched an brow at the single word. Was that an insult? Regardless, she wasn't going to follow that rabbit trail for this conversation. "That's the only response you have?" she asked. "I guess I'm right, then. I'll be going now." She rose to her feet, though she barely had enough room to with Riku standing right in front of her. But if he realized that this really was her choice, maybe he would let her leave now.

Riku lifted an eyebrow, his eyes finding Lightning again. "...Nuh-uh," he simply said, lowering a hand and lightly pressing against her shoulder with a few fingers. She wasn't going anywhere. If he was going to allow her to do that, he wouldn't have gotten this far. She was staying home.
Lightning didn't sit down with the pressure on her shoulder; Riku may have been strong, but he couldn't press her down with just a few fingers. Especially when he wasn't being extremely forceful. "My choice, remember?" she asked. They had just established that it was her right to choose whether she went to work or not, but Riku was being stubborn. So was she, but she was actually right in this case. He had to have realized that by now.

"And when you collapse in front of your boss, what are you gonna tell him?" Riku challenged, his eyebrow still lifted, though his arm did join his other across his chest. He wouldn't be there to take her back to the hospital...which was kind of unsettling. Riku suddenly found himself imagining some other guy taking Lightning to the hospital, and the emotion that rose within him was disorienting: jealousy. His hands curled into fists under his arms at the realization, but he tried to ignore it. Sap.
Lightning arched a brow at Riku. He expected that she would collapse? As if. "I'm not weak, Riku," she said, giving him a look. "I wouldn't collapse." But she noticed that she said "wouldn't" instead of "won't". She was speaking as if she wasn't going to work, which at this rate, she wouldn't be. She was going to be too late. Guess I need to call in sick.

"One day of rest isn't going to be enough," Riku pointed out, fully aware of the consequences. He had concussions numerous times when he fought with the Keyblade, and when he decided to keep moving despite the fact that he had one, he regretted it later. And he knew Lightning wasn't weak; she was far from it actually.
Lightning stared at Riku, partially because of that one point that he kept repeating. One day of rest definitely wasn't enough; she still felt lousy. And if she did try to run to work now, she would definitely suffer more and Riku would be able to say "I told you so." She sighed after a few seconds, stepping past him and walking another direction. Not towards the door, but towards the kitchen and its phone. It was time to call out.

Riku lifted an eyebrow, tilting his head as he followed Lightning with his eyes. She wasn't heading toward the door, but she was going towards the phone. "Hmph," he grunted softly, pleased. He won that battle, not that he was going to let her win in the first place.
It didn't take Lightning too long to make the phone call. She apologized for calling in sick so late, but assured her boss that she thought she would be in the condition to come in but a concussion was going to keep her home. The message they gave her at that wasn't one she was pleased with, but she attempted to sound gracious before the call ended. She hung up the phone and walked out into the living room, drilling Riku with a halfhearted stare. "I hope you're happy," she said to him. "Now I'm not allowed to work for a week because they know about the concussion." They insisted that she rest up for a week before coming back in. That was a lot of money taken away from her.

"Good," Riku said, now sitting on the couch as he trailed Lightning's movements. Now he didn't have as much to worry about. Lightning wouldn't be going to work, and she wouldn't be coming to the gym... School was okay, he supposed, as long as she didn't do anything strenuous.
Lightning rolled her eyes at the one word, knowing that Riku accomplished what he set out to do. Apparently he was planning on sticking around though. As she walked by the television, she picked up the remote and tossed it to him, all while continuing to walk towards her bedroom. If she wasn't going to work, there was no point in wearing this uniform. She would put on something more comfortable.

Riku caught the remote with ease, flipping it around in his hand to hold it correctly. He smirked slightly at the silent message and focused on the television, turning it on. Naturally, he switched to the sports channel, not the soap that had first showed up. He supposed that was Serah's doing; he doubted Lightning watched soaps.
Lightning only took a minute to throw on black sweatpants and a grey shirt before heading back out to the living room. As if she cared what she looked like in front of Riku...though she did look good even in that casual outfit. It was flattering. She tried to chase those thoughts as she walked around the love-seat and sat down next to Riku on the other cushion that was available. Of course he'd put on sports. He's really making himself at home here, huh?

And she's definitely not the high maintenance type, either, Riku recognized, glancing at Lightning out of the corner of his eye when she sat down. Sweats? He was okay with that; it wasn't like he expected her to wear a skirt and blouse in front of him anyway. Kairi never did, or Namine. He was used to that kind of thing. But...she did look good.
Lightning noticed Riku glance over at her clothes. He wasn't that subtle. "You're not going to take away my right to wear sweats, right?" she asked. "Since apparently you've taken away my right to work." At least for a week. She was irked about that, sort of. Mostly she was just worried about how she would pay a few of the bills now. It was really rough living this way. Incredibly rough.

"Nah," Riku said with a small shake of his head, his focus back on the television. "You're good." He wasn't into the dressing up thing anyway; if she wore heels and such, he would have been curious. He wasn't exactly someone anybody needed to dress up for.
Lightning felt a weird tension hanging in the air after Riku's comment. The same tension she felt last night when they were at the hospital. It almost felt like they were a couple. Almost but not really. It was inexplicable and left her feeling really confused. Maybe she had a slight crush on Riku...That would explain why she didn't kick him out of the house for the stunt he just pulled. But he surely didn't return those feelings, if she even had those feelings in the first place. Confusing. So confusing.

Riku relaxed on the couch, one arm on the armrest while the other sat on his thigh. He stared at the screen, watching the Blitzball tournament in silence. But...he caught a vibe, one that he knew he didn't exactly cause. If he had, it was accidental. So...it had to have been coming from Lightning. But what was it?

Lightning chased away the confusion by verbally changing the subject. "Do you...want to watch something other than sports?" She wasn't a huge fan of sports in general; she didn't have the time to invest in getting to know all the athletes and coaches and everyone else involved. She wasn't big on television shows either, but she and Serah had a few movies that were okay.

Riku shrugged. "I don't care," he admitted. He just turned something on. "It's your place." He couldn't exactly control what they did, not that he ever would. He was just a guest, so Lightning could take the lead.
Lightning's lips turned up ever so slightly as she pushed herself off the couch. "At least I still have control of some things in my life, then." She walked up to the TV and knelt down in front of it, opening the cabinets of the stand it was on. They didn't have many movies, and the ones that they did have were a few years old. Her mother bought them for the two of them when she was still around; Lightning wouldn't have wasted money on them. She looked through the selection, seeing some of Serah's chick flicks. There was one movie that the two girls always liked--Serah for the romance, Lightning for the action. I guess Spiderman is okay. It's mostly action.

Riku smiled ever so slightly in amusement, his eyes on Lightning. Clearly she was choosing a movie. "No chick flicks," he proposed. "Kairi's got that covered." He had to watch too many of them through the years. It had been torture.
