Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Chick flicks are torture," Lightning agreed as she put the movie into the DVD player. "Serah's forced me through too many." It had to be obvious by now how much Lightning cared for Serah. Often times she did do whatever Serah wanted to do, just so that her sister knew how loved she was. Just because they didn't have parents didn't mean that she wasn't loved.

Riku's small smile remained. "A chick who doesn't like chick flicks? My kind of girl," he said, crossing his arms over his chest as his smile turned into a smirk. He thought he would never see the day, but here he was.
Lightning blinked at the words, which sounded awfully flirtatious. Did Riku mean to come off that way? Or did he flirt with a lot of girls? Thinking about the latter made her feel...uneasy. She already knew other girls liked him; he was mysterious and strong. And handsome. But if he liked them in return-- "Why watch unrealistically dramatic relationships when you can watch epic fights instead?" she asked as she returned to the couch and sat down next to Riku. Those thoughts of hers were unwelcome now. The title menu for Spiderman was up now, ready to go. But Riku held the remote still.

"Girls like you do exist," Riku said, his tone showing mock-awe. But still, he was surprised. He pointed the remote at the television and pressed play, starting the movie. He'd seen it a few times before, but it was better than anything based off a sad novel.
"Girls like me?" Lightning repeated in question. She shook her head faintly and stared at the screen. "Not quite. There's nobody like me out there." She was one of a kind, without a doubt. But there were a lot of things that she didn't see as being good about herself. Apparently Riku approved of her view of movies though. At least she had that going for her.

"Doubtful," Riku commented, gazing at the screen. "All girls are stubborn to a point." He waited a moment before glancing over at her out of the corner of his eye, smirking a little more. It was a dull joke, but he was confident in it anyway. Kairi would have smacked him for it, but it came naturally.
Lightning also looked back at Riku out of the corner of her eye. "And all guys seem to steal control even when it's not theirs to take." It was a dull jab though; she wasn't at work, she was here with Riku. And a bit glad for it, actually. As cheesy as it sounded, the time that she spent with Riku was time that she actually enjoyed somewhat, unlike the rest of her life.

Riku rolled his eyes, though he did lift a hand to his heart. "Ouch. Right in the manhood," he said, going along with the jab. He looked over at Lightning, his smirk returning after his expression of mock-hurt fell away. That was a cheap shot, but he took it in stride.
Lightning hmphed in satisfaction, smirking faintly. After a few moments, though, her eyes were completely set on the television. The movie was about to begin now, so she supposed that the conversation was going to end. Though she was surprised at how well Riku took the insult. She thought he would take comments like that seriously because of his ego, but again, he was proving to be different than how she originally saw him.

Riku watched the movie alongside Lightning in silence, though there was an occasional jab or two at either the actors or each other. He actually didn't plan on staying long; he planned originally on checking up on her and then heading back home, but it seemed that didn't work out. And now...he found himself looking down at Lightning, her head on his shoulder. He was confused as to when she even got this close...
It was about halfway through the movie that Lightning found herself getting really drowsy. She had taken some medicine soon before she started off to work, and that medicine was supposed to be non-drowsy. Apparently it wasn't, because here she was now, asleep. Though she had been close to Riku when she was awake, it was in her slumber that her head found his warm shoulder and the comfort it provided.

Riku ignored the movie, since it was nearing its end. It was nothing special, but he found himself thinking that the girl next to him...was. His arm was around her, his hand resting on her arm opposite him. When did this happen? he asked himself, eyebrows furrowing a little. How did he let it happen? He never got this close, not to anyone.
Outside in the hallway, Serah neared the door to her apartment. Along with her was a boy named Snow. Apparently he was in Lightning's grade and was worried when she didn't come into school, because he gave her a concussion. That was news to Serah, who just thought Lightning had a cold. So after the two talked, Serah agreed that Snow could come with her and they'd check up on Lightning together. The girl opened the door after unlocking it, quietly stepping in and seeing the television on from her spot. But she also saw the backs of two people on the couch, with one's arm around the other. Riku. And Lightning? No way.

Riku's senses picked up on the door moving, even if he was deep in thought. He stiffened slightly and turned his head, seeing two people waiting at the door: Serah and Snow. The first thought that came to his mind? Crap. This was not a good position to be caught in.

Snow lifted a hand in a small wave. "How ya doin'?" he asked, smirking slightly at Riku's expression. Whoopsie. Clearly someone didn't like getting caught in the middle of something.

Serah found herself smiling softly, not hearing Lightning grunt softly and furrow her eyebrows at Snow's loud voice. "Sorry," she said, though she was aware she shouldn't be apologizing for entering her own house. "Snow told me what happened yesterday. We wanted to make sure Lightning was okay." But she didn't look at them yet, and she failed to react strongly like Riku did. Did she really trust Riku enough to fall asleep on him like this? It was so unlike her.

"O-oh, uh..." Riku turned his head slightly to look down on the girl leaning against him. He lifted his arm off her, though he didn't pull back completely. That was when he noticed her expression. Don't wake up yet, he begged. He couldn't be caught like this!

"Seems to me like Keyblade wielders have a way with the ladies, eh?" Snow leaned against the door, looking from Serah to Riku. The Keyblader shot him a quick glare before returning to his flustered state. Snow fought the urge to laugh. Riku, nervous? It was a sight.

Serah laughed, though a bit awkwardly. She was compassionate and had pity on Riku for this situation. And Lightning too, though she didn't appear aware of the situation yet. Though she would be in just a minute. Serah witnessed that herself when Lightning woke up enough to move a little bit.

That noise is so loud, Lightning thought in reference to Snow's loud, obnoxious voice. The words registered, sort of. He said Riku had a way with the ladies. But she didn't comprehend what this had to do with her. What she did comprehend was how her head began to pound since Snow showed up. She winced, lifting a hand to her head while her position remained the same.

Riku heard Snow start to speak, but that was when he shushed him. "Shut up, would you?" he hissed, having seen Lightning's movement and understanding what it meant. She was awake enough to register pain.

Snow lifted a hand to his blond head, rubbing over it. "Right...sorry," he muttered. Lightning had a concussion. Whoops.

Lightning heard the hiss, and the tone behind it. Protectiveness. And anger. But she also became more aware of how close that voice was to her, and how her side was against his and her head on his shoulder. Though a little startled by this realization, she was more startled by the idea that somebody was witnessing it. It would be best that she pretend to sleep for another minute or two.

Serah picked up on that tone; all of them had. She lifted a hand and twirled her long pink hair a little bit, trying to find a way to fix this. "Well," she said, shifting her gaze to Snow. "How about I take that homework you have for Lightning? I'll give it to her when she's awake." It was probably best that Snow leave. Maybe bringing him here wasn't a good idea.

"Oh, right," Snow said, making sure to keep his voice down now. He was already in trouble with Riku, both from the gym incident and just now. He didn't need anything worse. He swung his bookbag off one shoulder and around to the front, unzipping it as it hung on one shoulder. He grabbed a few notebooks and a textbook, handing them off to Serah. "The notes are there, and so are the problems we had to do for homework. She should catch on pretty fast."
"Okay," Serah said with a small nod. She held the books and notebooks in her one arm, nodding to Snow. "Thanks. I'll let you know how she is tomorrow if she isn't back." Though Serah hoped she would be okay. She hardly knew though, since she just found out about this from Snow. He didn't even tell her many details of it. Maybe Riku knew.

"Thanks. Give her my best," Snow said with a small nod, smiling ever so slightly. He then looked to the oldest in the room. "See you later, Riku." The Keyblade wielder lifted a hand in goodbye, glancing over at him before his gaze returned to Lightning. Snow decided then to take his leave. He waved to Serah one more time before stepping out and going down the hall, headed for home.
Serah waved faintly to Snow, quietly shutting the door behind him. She wished she had known he was going to be loud; if she had, she wouldn't have brought him here. She set down the books on an end table before walking over to Lightning and Riku. The former had her hand back in her lap now, pretending to sleep now so that things didn't get awkward. But it wouldn't be awkward now, hopefully. Serah was shocked to see Lightning close to somebody, but she was happy for the same reason.

Riku looked up at Serah when she approached, his arm still around Lightning, but his touch was much lighter. Her weight was still against him, but he didn't hold Lightning as securely as he had been, for obvious reasons. "...Snow told you?" he asked, aware that Serah knew of Lightning's real condition now.
Serah nodded softly, sitting down in a single chair and looking over at Lightning and Riku. For the latter's sake, she wouldn't talk about his position. "What exactly happened?" she asked, sure to keep her voice quiet. "Snow only told me that he accidentally struck her in the gym yesterday." This must have been why Lightning didn't want Serah coming home last night. It all made sense now.
