Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"What kind of dreams were you imagining I'd have?" Lightning asked, glancing up at Riku and again realizing how close they were. He could move his arm back down at any point. He could lean down and kiss her at any point. The latter was really something she didn't want; Riku couldn't get closer to her. He'd get hurt. And yet...she liked having somebody to depend on. For once.

"Well," Riku started, glancing up at the ceiling as he thought about it. "You aren't like Kairi or Namine in many aspects, so my best bet...?" He looked over at her, his arm still behind her on the couch. "Knocking Snow's head against a table or something. Maybe kicking my rear into gear, even." He smirked a little, just joking. Lightning was a tough girl; he didn't expect her to have girly dreams.
Lightning hmphed, smirking. "Now that you mention it, I think I did dream of Snow irritating me." But that was a lie; she had actually been awake to hear Snow come into her home with Serah. He had been so loud. The idea of knocking his head against a table really wasn't a bad one. Maybe once he had a concussion, he'd have more sense of when to keep quiet around another person with one.

Riku chuckled a little, the sound low and soft. He shook his head in amusement, looking back to the screen. "Not surprising," he muttered. Snow easily did that; it came naturally, Riku was sure. But...he didn't say anything about it being true, because he didn't want to think of the possibility of Lightning overhearing what happened a little while ago, when Snow was over. That would have been...well, embarrassing.
"I don't suppose I'll be having a rematch with him anytime soon," Lightning thought aloud. She knew that Riku wouldn't allow it, for one thing. He wouldn't even let her go to work, which didn't involve anything swinging at her or her head. Snow seemed to disregard the rules a lot when it came to Struggle, and perhaps life in general. Either way, she'd be more on guard around him from now on.

"Nope," Riku simply said, agreeing with that statement. Lightning definitely wouldn't be having a rematch with Snow in the future, at least when Riku was around. He wouldn't allow it, not after what he saw last.
"It's not as if I need to redeem myself anyway," Lightning said mostly to herself, finding that filling the air would keep things from being awkward between her and Riku. "I would have beaten him anyway." Unlike him, she had been following the rules. She had been evenly matched with him when he broke the rules. So she was certain she would have won if he had actually been doing what he was meant to do, and not swinging at her head.

Riku hummed softly in agreement to that as well. "Most likely," he said. Brawn didn't really make a difference in battle, unless Tifa was involved. She was agile apart from her strength, so she was a double threat. But Snow...his strength overcame his intelligence; he never used the latter in fights. If he had, he might have won one eventually.
Lightning let the silence settle between them as her thoughts went elsewhere. She was still sitting close to Riku, and his arm was still behind her. On the couch, granted, but she knew it had been around her shoulders at one point. A part of her wanted to put her head on his shoulder again, but those feelings were completely contradictory to her logical thoughts. No, she couldn't be close to Riku. She couldn't allow it. She should have moved away from him...but she didn't. You're so weak. You don't need other people. You're strong enough without them.

Riku sat in silence, staring at the screen. He started thinking back to Snow's face when he showed up with Serah earlier, and how suggestive it had been. "Seems to me Keybladers have a way with the ladies, eh?" Riku's eyebrows furrowed at that memory, practically hearing the suggestion in Snow's tone. But why had it bothered Riku so much?

After five to ten minutes, Serah reentered the living room to see that Lightning was awake. The expression that she wore said that she wasn't really paying attention to the television that her eyes were set on. "Hey," she called. Her sister blinked, looking over at her. "Dinner's ready." It hadn't taken too long, thank goodness. Serah may have been fourteen, but she was becoming quite the cook. Hopefully Riku agreed. Maybe then he would come over more often and support Lightning. They probably didn't talk about her struggles, but it seemed like Riku just being around was good for her.

Riku nodded slightly to the younger Farron, but then his eyes moved to Lightning. With his arm that wasn't behind her, he motioned to the area in front of them. "After you," he said, voice soft. He hadn't exactly planned on staying for dinner, but it seemed like he had to.
Light felt a slight smile tug at her lips. "What a gentleman," she commented quietly, rising to her feet. She nearly held out a hand for Riku to take, but that was a ludicrous idea. No way was she going to hold his hand again. From this point on, physical contact was off limits. ...She couldn't fall harder for him than she already was.

Riku's lips turned up in a small smirk, and he rose to his feet after Lightning. It was then that they made their way to the kitchen, his senses picking up on the delicious food. "Smells good," he said, looking to Serah as he made his way to the table. And it looked good too. Who knew a fourteen year old could cook this well?
"Thanks," Serah said with a smirk, looking at the macaroni casserole set in the middle of the table. It had a lot of cheese and meat in it too though, which made it extra good. "I'm just glad I inherited our mom's cooking skills. Lightning isn't exactly the best cook." She gave her sister an affectionate smile as she sat down, though Lightning just rolled her eyes in good nature. She already knew that she wasn't that good of a cook.

Riku chuckled a little, but took a seat at the small table. There were four chairs, and by the way the table was set up, he would be sitting between both sisters. He assumed that since Serah cooked, Lightning was the one who did the housekeeping. She seemed like she was orderly.

Serah smiled at Riku's warm chuckle and then took a seat herself. She did, however, look across Riku to Lightning as the latter spooned some food onto her plate. Not as much as she would usually eat. "How do you feel?" she asked, recalling the information she received earlier. Her sister had a concussion.

Lightning put the spoon back into the dish. "I'm fine," she said, picking up her own fork and staring down at her food. "It's nothing major. I just needed a day to rest up." She spoke as if she'd be back on her feet tomorrow, but she doubted that would be the case. For one thing, she wasn't allowed to go to work. And she was considering skipping another day of school. Going was pointless anyway.

"And you'll need a few more," Riku said, glancing over at Lightning as he waited for Serah to grab her food first. "One day isn't enough." Her boss said as much, and by the way he looked at her, Lightning knew it. She was staying home for a while; no strenuous activities.
Serah noticed how Lightning didn't respond for a few seconds, and she chuckled faintly as she got some food for herself. "You might have to hold her to that, Riku," she joked lightly. "She doesn't know how to sit still." She had patience--loads of it with Serah at least-- but she was always pressing forward. Doing nothing wasn't Lightning's thing.

Riku's smirk returned. "Right," he said, nodding softly. He already knew that he would be back here tomorrow, and he was sure Lightning knew it too. Maybe even Serah. But he kind of felt responsible for Lightning's injury, but him coming over here wasn't completely out of obligation. He...wanted to, actually.
Lightning rolled her eyes. Had Serah seen them on the couch? Of course she had. That was why she was trying to get them to spend more time together. She thought they were interested in each other...but surely the affection only came from her side. And secretly, too. "I'll stay out of trouble," she muttered. But to make it more lighthearted so Serah didn't get worried, she added on one more comment. "Scout's honor."

Riku ate in silence, though he did glance over at Lightning. Her promise was completely dependent on her own definition of trouble, which made Riku suspicious. But he only continued eating, letting her make the vow but knowing fully he would still be here come tomorrow.
Even Serah, who didn't know Riku well, could tell what his expression meant. She smiled lightly at how Lightning chose to ignore it. "Sorry sis," she said. "Looks like you're still stuck with him." Riku wasn't going to leave her alone anytime soon...thank goodness. At that comment, Lightning let out a small hmph and ate more food. But if Serah wasn't mistaken, she really didn't look disappointed that she couldn't shake off Riku.

Riku's expression remained, and he continued to eat in silence. He hadn't known Serah had been watching him, since his gaze at been on Lightning at the time. But Serah was right; he was sticking around, at least for a little while longer.
Lightning glanced over at Riku, realizing he was awfully quiet. Of course he was siding with Serah though; she had heard the conversation the two of them had. Serah thought Lightning trusted Riku, and maybe she did. But it wasn't like she was going to let him know her life story or anything. No way. Not even Riku could get that close to her. She wouldn't let him.
