Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Maybe, but that still didn't make it right," Roxas said with the faint shaking of his head. He glanced back at Namine, unsure of what else to say. Did she even know why he was offended in the first place? Probably not, since she hardly knew him at all. Sure, she knew his temperament--or that his temper meant trouble-- but she didn't know Roxas too well. He kept his distance for a reason.

Namine shrugged faintly, glancing to the side. "I offended you, and you offended me," she reasoned. "I'd say we're even." She hurt Roxas terribly, implying that he needed to be like his Somebody in order to be liked, but that wasn't the case. She liked him for who he was, even if he was tempermental and mysterious, and distant. He had a good heart.
Roxas scratched his cheek, that being his own habit. Sora's was rubbing underneath his nose. But he wasn't focused on that; he was focused on Namine's logic. "...Okay." If she wanted to think that way, she could. However, he felt like she offended him a lot more than he offended her. Oh well. He was over it.

Namine lifted her gaze to Roxas then, seeing his expression. He may not have known it, but right now, he was very easy to read. "...Roxas," she said then, her voice soft despite the many voices and footsteps around them. "Sora explained why you were upset. He said that you were looking to be your own person, and when I said what I did, I ruined that. I'm...so sorry. I should have realized what my words meant to you more than anyone." She bit her lip, realizing that they were in the same boat. While she had an easier time becoming her own person, Roxas didn't, and it was because of people like her discussing him the way she had. It was unfair.
Roxas blinked, surprised and startled that Namine understood the problem. And that Sora comprehended it as well. He took his hand away from his cheek and glanced down the opposite side of the hall, towards the doors the two came into. "It's no big deal," he said with a small shrug. "You were right. I'm not Sora." He was Roxas. Maybe Roxas didn't save the worlds, and maybe he wasn't friends with every person he met, but that didn't make him have less value than Sora...did it?

Namine shook her head in agreement, lifting a hand to tuck some hair behind her ear. "No, you're not," she said, sincere. He and Roxas were opposites, though they sometimes held the same qualities. But...she liked them both equally, and considered them both friends, even if she did talk to Sora more than she talked to Roxas.
But even if Roxas told himself those things, he didn't believe them. Sora was a terrific person. Even if Roxas was bitter everyone compared him to his Somebody, he knew why they did. They expected his Nobody to at least be likable, and to do great things like Sora did. But he was just ordinary. Nothing special. A Nobody.

Namine tilted her head slightly, some of her blonde hair falling over her light purple sweater. "Roxas?" she called softly, seeing that he seemed to be spacing out. At least that's one thing they have in common, she thought lightheartedly. Sora often spaced out as well, so it was a common trait.
Roxas blinked, looking back at Namine. "Sorry," he said instinctively. He just got lost in his own thoughts. As usual, they were depressing ones. He needed to get back to his music. His music encouraged him that he wasn't completely worthless because he wasn't going to live up to his Somebody.

Namine couldn't help but smile a little, the expression weak. "....There's at least one way you two are alike," she said softly. Daydreaming was a common trait between Sora and Roxas, not that that was a bad thing. A Somebody and a Nobody were bound to be connected through some traits. Namine and Kairi both had the same gentle nature. It was just...there.
"Guess so," Roxas responded with a small nod. He knew what Namine was referring to; the dozing off and getting lost in thought. Sora had done that a lot since he saved the worlds twice. Before that, he daydreamed too, but not like now. Roxas had his own daydreams, ones that involved music and not saving worlds. Speaking of music..."I should probably go," he said, glancing at a clock on the wall. He had a lesson to get to.

Namine looked around and noticed that a lot of the students were gone. "Oh, right. Of course," she said, nodding. Her next class didn't start for a half hour, but Roxas probably had somewhere to be. She wouldn't keep him; she wasn't more important that his education.
Roxas glanced back at Namine, nodding. "I guess...I'll see you around." He lifted a hand faintly in farewell before he started the way that he had come from, to go towards the music building. He supposed he felt a little better seeing Namine, but having her compare him to Sora was still uncomfortable. That was why he excused himself.

Namine watched Roxas go, but after a moment, she decided she should return to her original path. She started towards the stairs, climbing them in silence as she headed for the second floor. She had to work on a few more sketches before class. Hopefully this last encounter with Roxas would help set things right...but she knew it wouldn't be that easy.

That afternoon

Lightning had grocery bags in each hand as she exited the elevator and came to her apartment floor. This was after the time that Riku had shown up yesterday, and she was certain that he probably came the same time today. A part of her wanted to be out of the apartment when he came, though, just because he was trying to keep her confined. She had to remind him that she wasn't his to control, however good his intentions were. Was he waiting for her, or did he go home? She didn't see him outside her apartment, so maybe he did the latter.

Riku was leaning against the back of the loveseat he sat on the day before, facing the front door as he silently waited. Lightning would be here soon; he could hear her footsteps outside the door. He had his arms crossed over his broad chest, the look on his face one of disapproval. What was she doing outside the house? Surely she didn't go to school; she hadn't mentioned it the day before.
Lightning switched the bags to one hand, stuck her key into the door, and then opened it up. As she stepped inside, she didn't have to look far to see Riku and his disapproving look. Somehow, she wasn't surprised he was standing there. "Guessing the Keyblade let you in," she said, putting the key in her pocket as she headed for the kitchen.

Riku lifted an eyebrow, but Lightning was right. "Grocery shopping?" he asked, though it was obvious. "That's more important than resting, I take it." Clearly, since she seemed to have plenty. How long was she gone for? At least an hour, since he'd been waiting that long.
"I didn't just get groceries," Lightning said in her defense. She set down the bags on the kitchen table and took out the stuff that needed to be refrigerated. "I was out of medicine." That was actually the truth. She had run out of pills to take when she got headaches, so she went to the store and bought those and a few other things that they needed. She just so happened to do it when she suspected Riku was coming, too. She wanted to see him get as flustered as she felt with him.

"I thought you were dumb enough to go to school," Riku voiced, not at all afraid of Lightning's following reaction. He looked at her with disapproval, arms still crossed over his chest. If she had gone to school, he was sure she would have gotten grief from Serah too. He wasn't the only one worried about her.
"Nope, I'm saving that stupidity for tomorrow," Lightning declared as she put away the milk. She looked over at Riku, her expression serious and showing that her mind was made up. She was going back to school, whether it was wise or not. If she was out tomorrow, she would need a doctor's note. No way was she paying for a doctor's appointment when she was perfectly fine. Well, sort of fine.

Riku didn't say anything. He guessed he couldn't keep her from school forever, but he still wanted her to be careful. He was sure his expression explained that for him, so he didn't bother voicing it aloud.
Lightning arched a brow at Riku's reaction. "Didn't expect you to take it so well," she said. But Riku clearly wasn't pleased with her, for more reasons than one. Good. She liked actually having control of a situation for once. It made her feel strong, unlike yesterday when she fell asleep against Riku's side. Even if she enjoyed it...It didn't matter. It couldn't happen again.

Riku rolled his eyes, turning his head to look at the door. The sarcasm in her voice couldn't be missed, but he still stayed silent. He wasn't really sure what to say anyway. He couldn't control her; he wasn't her guardian. Well, he did protect her a few times, but that was besides the point. She had a point underneath all her sarcasm, and that was that he wasn't in charge of her. She controlled her life; he just influenced it.
Lightning saw Riku look at the door, and her expression changed to disbelief. "I really got under your skin badly enough that you want to leave?" That was a genuine surprise for her. Riku was always calm, even when facing bullies like Zane. He was calm now too, she supposed, but it was different. He was a different kind of irritated today.
