Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

Lightning shut her eyes, furrowing her eyebrows. She felt like swearing at Riku. At herself. At everything. "Don't," she said through her teeth. "I don't...want to lose you as a friend." Riku really was her friend. Her only one. If he walked out of her life now, it would only make things worse. She was falling for him, whether she was going to admit it or not.

Riku simply gazed at Lightning at the words, somewhat surprised to hear them. She considered him a friend... For some reason, that felt like an achievement, since Lightning wasn't so easy to get close to. Whatever he was doing, he was doing it right.
Lightning finally looked back up at Riku, defeat in her eyes. Fine. I've let you into my life. You were right. She just...wasn't good at this type of thing. Nobody ever actually tried to get to know her before. She was always distant and cold. She still was, but Riku saw something more somehow. He must have if he put up with her this long.

Riku felt his expression soften at the look in Lightning's eyes, and he lifted a hand from the counter to her shoulder. "...We're friends," he confirmed, also transmitting a message. They were friends, which meant that he would be there for her if she needed him. He already had been.
Lightning glanced at the hand that went to her shoulder, rather than staring at Riku's eyes. He was her friend, but she was his too. That really wasn't wise. "I have nothing to offer you, Riku," she said quietly. He may have protected her and taken care of her, but what had she done other than snap at him and fight him all along the way? Probably nothing good.

"Offer me?" Riku repeated, confused. "I'm not asking for anything." And he wasn't. He just wanted to help her if he could. Lightning needed a friend, and if he was the one to fill that role, he would. It must have been his destiny.

Riku's amazingness is showing again, Lightning thought to herself. He was selfless. He really was. "Friendship is a two way thing, or so I've been led to believe," she said softly. "Giving and taking. I've taken....comfort, from you, but I don't have anything to give in return." He was an incredible person and she wasn't.

Riku shrugged, standing upright and letting his hand fall from her shoulder. "Not now, maybe," he said, going along with what she was implying. "But you might someday." And if he was around to receive it, then fine. But for now, he was just looking to help.
Lightning looked up at Riku's face and nodded faintly. If that was how he felt, then there was no way she was going to change it. Maybe someday she'd be a better person. She just had too many demons to face right now. They were life-draining in a lot of ways. If she even had any life within her. She felt pretty dead. Except when Riku was around.

Riku smiled slightly, but not much; this wasn't the right time to smile completely. "I'll leave you be," he said, taking a few steps back to leave. "You seem to have things under control." She seemed to like it that way too. If Lightning was okay, he would take off.
Lightning didn't want him to leave. But what was she supposed to say? Stay forever, because you're the one person who actually makes me feel like I'm not dead inside? No. Those words would never leave her lips. But two others did. "I'm sorry." She was sorry for making him wait for her, and for putting him to the test. Clearly he was sticking around (as a friend, not literally since he seemed to be leaving), but she wasn't sure why that was.

Riku stopped a few feet away, lifting an eyebrow. "For?" he prodded. What was Lightning sorry for? Was it for accusing him of invading her personal life or saying he wasn't let in with her when he said he was? He didn't think it was much to apologize for, but he was curious as to what she meant.
Lightning pondered the question. There was a lot she was sorry for, but not all of the regret was for anything she said. She was sorry she wasn't strong enough to bear this burden on her own, and sorry she had to let Riku in. As for the conversation... "Sorry for testing you," she said, realizing that was exactly what she was doing. She was testing him to see if he was sure about being her friend. And he was, apparently.

Riku's quizzical expression remained, but simply because he hadn't really realized he was being tested. He shrugged, glancing to the side. "Glad I passed," he said. Apparently if she was apologizing, he passed whatever test he had been under.
Lightning glanced over to the opposite side, feeling weird. Riku didn't necessarily pass the test yet. That would be shown in how they interacted with each other in the future, and if this conversation did end up driving him away. "...I felt the need to," she said, unsure of why she was explaining herself. "I don't think anybody else would have stuck around, so I didn't think you would either." He was different. Very different.

Riku smirked a little, but out of good nature. "I can handle you," he said, confident in himself. "Don't worry about that." He would be fine, as far as he was concerned. By the way Lightning was saying it, she agreed.
Lightning smirked faintly as well. "As long as by 'handle', you don't mean 'control'," she agreed. Riku did have influence on her; there was no doubt about that. Still, there was no way that he was going to dominate all of her life choices. She was still going to think for herself, even if he was her friend.

Riku shook his head, his eyes on Lightning. He knew what it was like to be controlled, though controlled and possessed were two completely different things. Regardless, he wouldn't be the one to do that to Lightning. Actually, he hoped nobody ever would. She didn't deserve that kind of treatment.
Lightning tilted her head slightly, a surprisingly natural action to accompany her curiosity. "What?" Riku looked like he was pondering something that had to do with her; he was still staring at her, after all. She had already spoken her mind a lot today, so she supposed it was Riku's turn now.

Riku shook his head again. "Nothing," he said, though he found himself suddenly....attracted to Lightning when she tilted her head like that. Her hair fell over her shoulder, and the look in her eyes was so...innocent and curious. But once he realized, he looked away, his smirk remaining as he found the opportunity to tease Lightning a little. That would cover up his....feelings pretty well.
"Nothing, hm," Lightning hummed suspiciously. She folded her arms over her chest, staring at Riku with more cynical eyes that still showed curiosity. The look in his eyes a few moments ago had told another story. But that was in a language Lightning had no clue how to decipher. Riku was confusing with what he said verbally; what he said silently through gestures and his eyes was even more confusing.

Riku crossed his arms over his chest as well, tilting his head. "Don't believe me, I take it," he assumed. Maybe she was just playing along, but Lightning seemed suspicious. He guessed she had a reason to be, since he was kind of lying. But she didn't have to know that.
"That's right," Lightning agreed. Her arms fell down by her sides again as she walked forward, stopping right in front of Riku. Though she was smaller than he was, she liked to think that she added a little pressure by being closer. At least a little. "So tell me." She didn't like it when secrets were kept from her.

Riku simply looked at Lightning, his expression and posture saying it all. No. But why had she gotten so close? Is this intimidation I smell? he thought, somewhat amused. Was she trying to pressure him?
Lightning just looked back at Riku, staying silent and waiting for him. He had to say something, because otherwise, she was just going to continue standing here in front of him. She had nowhere to be after all. This was her home, and he was a guest in it. Sort of. He did let himself in and seemed to leave whenever he pleased, but...she wasn't ready for him to go right after a heated argument.
