Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"...You're right," Riku said then, voice tight as he glared at his parents. "She is special, but not in the way you two are thinking. Sorry she's not Kairi, but you can see how well that worked out." His parents loved Kairi for as long as Riku could remember, and they also knew that he had feelings for her back in the day. But that was over with now; Kairi was happily married to Sora, who Riku was proud of. The feelings had subsided. "Lightning's different."

"Kairi may have found Sora, but that doesn't mean there isn't another nice girl like her on the Islands," Locke said. "With all the girls pining over you, you chose her?" Unbelievable. He had never thought Riku would take an interest in a girl who was so dark. But thinking about his son's past, it made sense now. He was close to the Darkness again.

Riku lifted an eyebrow, giving his father a look. Chose her? They made it seem like he was dating her. But Riku was sure that if they were royalty, his parents would have had a ball arranging a marriage. Clearly they didn't trust their son's judgement. "I didn't choose anyone," he said in his defense. "We're friends. And if you two think I'm going to ditch her because she has a rough past, you're crazy. And hypocrites. In case you forgot, I nearly lost myself to the Darkness. Take a look at yourselves."

Celes's eyes grew moist, but not because Riku called them hypocrites. Perhaps they were, but they were looking out for their son. He said it himself--he fell to Darkness once. That was enough. "We won't let that happen again," she declared, sad. She and her husband were trying to help Riku. If that meant Lightning had to be alone...it didn't matter. They cared for their son more.

"Controlling me isn't going to prevent it," Riku said, looking from his mother to his father. "Try a different method." He was all ears, really. His parents obviously thought that they could still influence his decisions, even if he was nineteen. Perhaps they could, but not when it came to who he socialized with. That was just ridiculous.

"There is no other method," Locke said as he rose to his feet. "You really want to make your mother cry over a girl that you apparently haven't chosen?" He felt his wife's teary glare on him, but he kept his eyes on his son. He was waiting for an answer.

Riku rose to his feet as well, leaning against his hands on the table as he glared at his father. "The only person who's making her cry is herself," he said. "You two raised me. You knew exactly how I would react to this, and yet you're still pushing it." He wasn't about to live his life the way his parents wanted him to. That was a waste. He loved them and respected them, but this wasn't going to work.

"We love you," Celes said through her tears.

"And if you love us, you'll take what we have to say seriously," Locke said firmly, glaring at the son who inherited many of his traits. The bluntness, for one, but also the dedication to what they stood for. Locke stood against Lightning, and Riku stood for her. Nothing was going to change that apparently.

"And if you love me, you'll trust my judgement," Riku countered, standing upright. So what he was saying, was for his parents to follow his advice this time. They needed to give Lightning a chance to prove who she was before they made assumptions. Clearly it was too late for that.

Locke just stared at his son, remaining silent. His wife did the same, so after a few tense seconds of silence, he spoke in a low voice. "Well, it seems as if lunch is over." That meant that it was probably time for Riku to go. They invited him here for lunch and enjoyed it while it lasted, but now Riku had Celes upset with his stubbornness.

Riku smiled, but he did it bitterly. "Fine by me," he said, glancing from his father to his mother one last time before stepping away from the table and leaving the room. He grabbed his jacket and opened the front door, slamming it behind him once he stepped out. He found it fitting that it was raining, a dull rumble of thunder alerting him of a heavy storm coming. He ignored it, making his way toward his bike silently. Riku pulled his helmet over his head and climbed on, revving the engine before speeding out of the driveway and away from his parents' home...and their unwavering opinions.
Lightning glanced out her window at the loud rumble of thunder, sitting in her bedroom. It was Saturday, and normally she would have been working, but her boss didn't want her in because of the concussion. She supposed that was for the best. Today she woke up in a complete daze, feeling like she was hit by a train. A train of emotions, that is. Now she was just thinking, a lot of it centered around her past and some of it centered around the future.

The raindrops hit the visor of Riku's helmet, but he ignored it as he sped down the streets. He took various turns, but when he found himself in front of an apartment building, all he could do was stare up at it. Fate would guide him here...or was it his heart?
Lightning stared down at the item in her lap, one that she just finished this morning. It was a gunblade. Formerly, it was just a gun that her mother had given her. Her father had bought it when she was just a little girl and requested Lightning receive it when she was older. He also was working on designs to turn it into a sword. Today, Lightning finished creating that vision. If only you could see it.

Riku cut the engine and swung his leg over, standing and tearing his helmet off his head. He didn't know why he was here, but he trusted his heart's decision. He put the helmet under the seat of his bike and started toward the building, the rain pouring down on him as he walked. He could care less, too infuriated with his parents and their judgements. He couldn't believe them...
Lightning looked out the window once again. It was appropriate that she finished this project today, in a lightning storm. For one thing, she loved the storms. Secondly, so did her father. The name that she chose for herself--Lightning-- was a tribute to him. Somehow she felt like he was here with her. It wasn't a reality, obviously, but she was feeling a little...comforted.

By the time Riku got to Lightning's floor, his hair was damp, as were his clothes. The rain held no mercy on him, but then again, neither did his parents. Riku sighed as he approached Lightning's apartment, knocking on the door as he lowered his sight to the ground, one hand in his pocket. Why was he here?
Lightning blinked at the knock she heard from the front door. Did Serah lock herself out? No, she wouldn't have come home so soon anyway...So who was there? Lightning subconsciously carried her new gunblade with her, but she realized it once she reached the living room. She glanced at it briefly before setting it down on the kitchen table. Then she walked to the door and opened it, surprised to see who was wet and standing outside. "Riku?"

Riku looked up at Lightning, though he didn't exactly greet her like she did him. A drop of rain fell from the tips of his hair, falling to the floor. He was soaked, and angry. The day hadn't gone so well just yet.
Something's wrong. Lightning couldn't deny that. She stepped aside and motioned for him to come in. "Don't soak the couch yet," she said as she headed towards the bathroom. "I'll get a towel." He just came here in the downpour and he wasn't smiling at all. What was going on? She felt concern immediately. She never saw Riku like this before.

Riku stepped into the apartment and turned to shut the door behind him. He then took his shoes off in silence, keeping them by the door as he started to shrug off his jacket. He felt awful for coming over like this--as in, not his usual self. He was normally the one who was in a better mood, but today that just wasn't happening.
Lightning came out a few moments later with a navy blue towel in hand. She lightly tossed it to Riku, certain that his reflexes were as good as ever despite whatever was going on. He wasn't injured or anything; she could see that clearly as she stood a few feet away and observed him. He just showed two main things: anger and devastation.

Riku murmured a "thanks", catching the towel with ease as he hung his jacket up on the coat rack. He then brought the towel to his hair, running it over it quickly. When he lowered it, his hair was a mess, not that he really cared. He really just needed to vent. Maybe that was why he was here.
Lightning stared a moment longer, then had an idea. She silently lifted a finger to Riku, to motion that she would be right back. She headed to the kitchen and came back out with two mugs with steaming tea. She had some made up from earlier--a lot of it. "Serah calls it 'Calming Tea'," she said as lightly as she could, stopping by Riku and offering him some. She didn't know if he was a fan of tea, but he did look like he needed to calm down.

Riku had the towel over his shoulder, so he lifted a hand to take the mug from her. He smiled weakly to Lightning before taking a sip of the tea, its warmth enveloping him. He released a heavy breath, looking down at the mug before looking to Lightning. He was sure if he kept drinking this, he would feel a little better.
