Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

"Sorry my parents are so judgemental," Riku said, his eyes finding Lightning as he sat next to her. He knew his parents were skeptical people, but the fact that they were like that towards someone he trusted and befriended was baffling. He just couldn't wrap his head around it.
Lightning shrugged faintly. She did wish Riku's parents liked her, but it wasn't like there was anything she could do. "I know how I come across," she said simply. She came across as a cold person who hated life and the world. Maybe she was that way in reality, but she wasn't always. Sometimes she found hope.

Riku didn't say anything to that, because he knew how Lightning came across too. He was the same way a few years back, when his life was awful. She was going through hardship, so naturally her personality would reflect that. His parents just didn't get it.
Lightning looked up at the ceiling, still holding her mug with both hands in her lap. "But...I thought maybe I was getting a little better." She didn't think that she was as cold as she used to be. She still remembered the first time that she and Riku met, and how he stormed off because of her attitude. She changed in the past two months, didn't she?

"You are better," Riku said, then lifting his mug to his lips again. If Lightning wasn't, he wouldn't be here. He didn't normally take people's attitudes very long. Lightning's toned down a bit since when he first met her, that was for sure.
Lightning hummed, glad that Riku saw it that way. Glad he saw some hope in her. She glanced over at the window, seeing that the sky was brighter than it was before. "Looks like the storm is nearly over," she commented softly, though maybe she was speaking in more than just the literal sense of things. Maybe things would get brighter in their lives soon too.

Riku looked over at the window as well, nodding slightly as he hummed. He guessed it was. But...that didn't mean he felt completely better. He vented a little, but he was still angry with his parents. He wouldn't get over this any time soon. Lightning was someone he admired and was trying to help. The fact that his parents looked down upon her was almost an insult to him.
Lightning glanced down at her tea, which was nearly gone by now. It kept her calm earlier today, but now her heart was uneasy because of what Riku's parents thought of her. Their opinion actually meant something to her, because Riku was becoming a really good friend to her. She hoped that he would stick around for a while.

Riku let his gaze move to Lightning after a moment, and he just looked at her. He knew she had a good heart inside her; she just had a tough exterior...much like him. He found it odd how they were alike in some ways. He never expected it upon meeting her.
Lightning supposed that she was more normal than she thought, actually feeling a little concern over what others thought of her. But she wouldn't change unless she wanted to. And she hadn't yet decided if that was the case yet. But the changing had already begun. The changes were subtle, but she was different than she was at the start of the school year. After a few moments, she felt Riku's gaze on her. She turned her head and returned his, wondering if there was something he left unsaid.

Riku met Lightning's gaze, but he didn't say anything. Instead, he only tilted his head a little. She...was beautiful. He had realized that before, but really looking at her, he knew that she was deep down as well. He admired her strength and courage, something he lacked in the past. He had it now, but it would have been nice to have when he was as young as she was.
Something about Riku's stare made Lightning's cheeks grow pink. As she shifted her gaze down to her tea again, she tried to analyze why that was. It was almost as if Riku had been looking at her heart for those few seconds that they held eye contact. She really, really wasn't used to that. But he saw her as more than what was on the exterior.

Knowing what he did, Riku knew that his parents were wrong. Lightning wasn't on a path to Darkness. Her hard work and dedication to making things right with her and her sister's lives would lead her to the road to Light. She would do better than Riku's parents thought, and that would be enough to prove them wrong.
Lightning glanced up at Riku again after a few seconds, still seeing him staring intently. "Is there a reason, why you're...?" She gestured to him, just asking in general why he was staring at her like he was. It was a deep stare, one that wasn't just focused on outward appearances. She had known Riku wasn't fooled by appearances though. He was smarter than that.

Riku's lips turned up in a small smile as he glanced down at the mug in his hands. He then leaned forward, setting it on the coffee table to get his hands free. "Just admiring you," he admitted, leaning back into the couch again, one arm resting on the back of it. He was honest at least.
Lightning's cheeks were already a faint shade of pink, but Riku's comment made the color increase. "Admiring?" she asked dumbly. No way does he admire me the same way I admire him. She hated to admit the small crush she was developing, but at least Riku wasn't aware of it. Nobody was yet.

Riku nodded, though he did catch that blush on Lightning's cheeks. Was that from him? His small smile remained as he kept his eyes on Lightning, not meaning to stare. But...he really had been admiring her. He wasn't afraid to admit it.
Lightning cleared her throat, though that was at least subtle. "And what exactly is so admirable about me that makes you stare that long?" she asked, lifting her mug to her lips as she waited for a response. She really wasn't sure what Riku would say; she was surprised he wasn't teasing her for the blush yet. He really was oblivious.

"Your beauty," Riku said, being as bold as ever. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, his smile fading as he turned serious. He wouldn't joke about something like that, and if Lightning was like any other girl, she would have been flattered by his words. But that was half the reason why he said it; she deserved to know she was beautiful.
Lightning started choking on the tea, though it could have been much worse. She coughed as soon as she heard what Riku had to say, and as she leaned forward and put the mug on the coffee table, she coughed a few more times. Her beauty? Riku was admiring that? Not that she wasn't flattered, because she was. She had never been called beautiful before.
  • Author
Riku blinked at the constant coughing, realizing that it was the reaction to what he said. Was it that surprising? Surely somebody had said something similar to Lightning, right? But if they had...she shouldn't have reacted like that. Or was it just because it was Riku?
Lightning calmed herself after a few seconds, leaning back in the couch and looking over at Riku. "Sheesh Riku," she said. "You trying to kill me?" Saying something like that when she was drinking tea? Or just saying it in general. She didn't see herself as beautiful. Physically, she was aware she was slender and her eyes were a nice shade, but she didn't see beauty because of what she knew was on the inside of her. Anger, sorrow, and bitterness.

Riku chuckled a little, shaking his head at Lightning's ridiculousness. He protected her all this time, so killing her was out of the question. He would never hurt somebody innocent anyway; it wasn't who he was. He ran a hand through his nearly-dry hair, looking down at his lap with a smile. "That would be a first," he admitted. Calling a girl beautiful and killing her? Yeah, he never heard of that happening before.
"Shut up," Lightning said, nudging Riku hard with her elbow. She was still a little flustered, so she looked back down to her lap and mumbled the word "ridiculous." It seemed a bit ridiculous that Riku would bring this up, but also ridiculous that he saw beauty in her somehow. It was pretty hard to imagine that happening.

Riku grunted at the jab, chuckling again as he held his side with his arm that wasn't behind the couch. He looked over at Lightning, smirking. "Well if that's how you're gonna be, Light, I won't compliment you anymore," he said, rolling his eyes. Women.
