Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

Riku glanced at Lightning, nodding. "Easy enough. I know a shortcut. This way," he instructed with a light wave of his hand. They would cut through a few backyards and alleyways, but it wouldn't get too sketchy. This neighborhood was friendly. The most they would have to worry about were loud dogs.

Serah followed behind Riku, and her eyes wandered over the dark island. Her eyes were naturally drawn to the stars after a few moments though. "The stars are so pretty here," she said in awe. "You can see them so much better here than at the old house." She was mostly speaking to Lightning, though Riku was allowed to hear too. Obviously they were new around here anyway.

Riku stepped over a rather large rock, glancing back at Serah. "Did you guys live in a city or something?" he asked, though the question could be answered by either of them. A little small-talk wouldn't hurt anything, he guessed. It would help the time go by faster, sure, and things wouldn't be as awkward. The last time he and Lightning spoke, they weren't exactly getting along.
"Sorta," Serah explained, careful not to trip over the rock. "We were closer to the outskirts of Bodhum too, but it was really bright at night. Much bigger than this Island. I like it here a lot so far. Everyone's so much nicer and more relaxed." Honestly, she hoped some of that would rub off on Lightning, but she doubted it. Her sister had been this way for the past two years, at least.

"Good to hear," Riku acknowledged with a small nod, walking down a quiet street. He made sure not to walk too fast, of course, not wanting to lose them. He glanced back at the older sibling. "You agree?" He didn't look at her for long, though, focusing forward again. He knew Lightning would compare his attitude to her outlook, and that probably wasn't a wise choice. He was bitter here and there, but a lot of the islanders weren't, like Noel.
Lightning would have just nodded faintly, but since Riku looked away, she was forced to give a verbal response. "Yeah," she said, voice quiet. But feeling that the answer would give Serah some sense that something was off, she added another soft comment. "People are nicer." Back at her old home, she dealt with bullies pretty often. Fortunately Serah didn't.

Riku continued walking, quiet for a moment. Certain parts of the island held more dangerous people, and he doubted the girls knew that. Fortunately, their apartment wasn't too close to the danger, but he could still warn them. "People are nicer," he agreed, "but there are a small portion of islanders that aren't really up to par. You guys live near that neighborhood, unfortunately." He stopped, looking at them as they caught up to him. "Be sure to be careful, okay?"

Lightning slowed her steps as she got closer to Riku, studying him. Was he just being paranoid again, or was the threat real? It didn't matter. "Nothing to worry about," she said, glancing over at Serah. She'd take care of the both of them. Though Lightning wasn't big and brawny, she knew plenty about self defense and even attacks. Serah didn't, but she was too sweet for people to hurt. That was what happened in their old school; everyone loved Serah, so they didn't bully her. But they didn't like Lightning, so they picked on her instead.

Riku briefly caught the look Lightning gave Serah, and he nodded. "Right," he said, then starting to walk. He proceeded alongside Serah, his eyes searching for the street he needed. They were already more than halfway there, thanks to his small shortcuts. As soon as the siblings got familiar with the Island, they would learn them too.
"How bad is that area, anyway?" Serah asked, not because she was afraid, but because she was curious. She couldn't imagine anything too terrible in a place so wonderful. All the kids at school welcomed her, and so did the teachers. Riku himself seemed quiet, but he was nice enough from what she could tell.

"A bunch of rebels live there," Riku began, staring ahead. "They're often the ones who shoplift in the town square or break into houses. They skip school a lot, too." He put a hand on Serah's shoulder, as if in assurance. "Don't worry, though. You guys are a good enough distance away that they shouldn't bother you." At least, I would hope not. Never know with them.
"Nothing to worry about," Lightning repeated, glancing over at Serah. When her sister met her eyes and nodded, she knew that the message was conveyed. Nothing would ever happen on Lightning's watch. And since she was always watching for suspicious people like them, Serah would always be safe.

Riku smirked at Lightning's confidence, and the way Serah instantly agreed. Serah must have had some faith in her sister. He nodded, his hand leaving Serah's shoulder. "Good to know," he said, focusing forward again. He saw a turn up ahead, aware that their apartment complex was only a few hundred yards away. "Almost there."
Lightning was glad when Riku removed his hand; she hadn't liked it being there in the first place just because she still wasn't too fond of Riku. She knew he wasn't a bad person, he was just a bit obnoxious at their first meeting. First impressions said a lot about a person. But focusing on the matter at hand, she shook her head faintly. "We can go the rest of the way alone," she said. She didn't really want Riku seeing the apartment and asking where their parents were this late at night.

Riku glanced over, nodding as he slowed his pace. "Alright," he said then. If Lightning was sure, he'd let them go. He had to head in the other direction anyway. Of course, it wouldn't take long since he knew so many shortcuts. Regardless, he was glad he could help the girls in some way; he hadn't done as much helping as he would have liked lately, with anyone. He'd been too busy brooding.
"Thanks again for showing us the way," Serah said to Riku with a small smile of appreciation. It had been nice to not get lost on their way home, in the dark. She was actually pretty tired at this point, so Lightning must have been as well. Out of the corner of her eye, she did notice her sister nod faintly to say thanks as well.

Riku placed a hand in his pocket, his face serious apart from the faint lift of his lips at the gratitude. "Sure thing," he replied lowly. At least he did something right lately. It wouldn't make up for his past mistakes, but it was a start.
"Hopefully we'll see you around," Serah said, not noticing that Lightning didn't nod in agreement to that one. "Goodnight." She offered Riku another small smile before she turned and started walking, with Lightning not too far behind her. It was time that they went up to their room and slept the night away.

Riku lifted his hand in the smallest of waves, watching the girls go. Once they were a good enough distance away and close to their apartment, he turned and started out of the area. It was time he went home as well. He not only had to rest, but he also needed to think about the Guaridan Corps.

One Week Later

Sora was seriously pumped. When was the last time he was part of a triathlon?! He actually couldn't remember doing one before, so that answered that question. He was most excited for the swimming section of it though since it was a hot Saturday. So many people turned out today to watch and participate. He looked around, eyeing the competition. This was going to be tough, but he knew that nobody could beat him.

Namine walked around, her camera in her hand. It was a professional brand, one she needed for a class back at the Academy. She brought it to eye level and snapped a shot of her friends standing near each other, but then she caught the scenery. The beach was packed today for the triathlon, and she was thankful that capturing pictures was part of her newest assignment; she didn't want to miss this. Her friends were participating, after all. It was important to be here to support them.
"Ready to lose, Riku?" Sora taunting, nudging his friend that was beside him close to the shoreline. Even after all these years, their competition was still going. The scores were long forgotten, but they still faced off against each other in cases like this. It was going to be fun to lower Riku's ego today and beat him in this triathlon.

Riku jerked when he was nudged, though he rolled his eyes and continued stretching. "Bring it on," he challenged. "Last I checked, you hadn't hit the gym in a few months. We'll see who's losing by the end of this." He was confident in his abilities; wielding the Keyblade helped him gain strength in nearly every muscle of his body. Of course, going to the gym helped too. He thought he could handle the triathlon, at least.
"Yeah, we'll see," Sora said cockily. He looked around the area again, realizing that the announcer could start this thing at any point. He finished stretching his arm and glanced at the competition again. A lot of them were young people, but there were some older than him. Some younger, too. He recognized that a few were high schoolers. Did they know what they were getting themselves into here?

"C'mon, baby!" Kairi cheered, cupping her mouth with her hands. She then whistled, smiling in excitement. She was happy to see Sora and Riku getting competitive again; it had been a while since she had really seen it. Unfortunately Roxas didn't want any part of the triathlon, but she at least convinced him to come watch. Namine too, though she used the opportunity to finish an assignment. Regardless, she was proud everyone was together and doing something fun. There was no real prize for winning the triathlon; all of the money went to charity.
