Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Lightning sat up on the couch when she saw who was at the door, and she didn't have as negative a response as Riku. At least he wasn't a reporter. She wordlessly picked herself up and walked over, wondering what Mr. Zimmerman wanted now. He still hadn't given up on having her testify against Mr. Yedon, did he?

"I hope you have reconsidered my offer," Cecil began, seeing the girl approach. His smile remained, though it wasn't out of good nature. "I believe I can deliver much bigger gifts than the press, if you wish." He looked over at the Keyblade wielder when he grunted, seeing the man's face lacking any emotion other than anger.

"I knew it," Riku practically spat. "You were the one who sent the press after Lightning." He was the only one stupid enough to do that, and now the story was going to be all over the Islands. That was the kind of thing he tried to keep from happening to Lightning, but it looked like it was too late.

"And you, Keyblade wielder," Cecil said with a lift of an eyebrow. "Who knew this could make for such an interesting story? 'Keyblade Hero Saves Teen from Terrible Fate.' Sounds great, if you ask me."

"You know what would sound even better?" Lightning asked lowly, stopping beside Riku. "The sound of my fist hitting your face." Of course she wouldn't really punch the man; she had enough with legal stuff lately. She just wanted this guy to get out of her life and take the press with him. He wasn't welcome in her life.

Riku lifted a hand to Lightning's shoulder, glancing at her before his eyes hardened once more, now on Cecil. "You're doing this all just so she'll testify? What does she get out of it?" he asked. Cecil wanted Yedon in jail, but would Lightning get anything out of it?

"The freedom to live her life without feeling threatened by the one who committed the crime," Cecil answered instantly, as if expecting this question. "It sounds like a bargain to me." Why wouldn't it? He got what he wanted, and she got what she deserved. It was a win-win.

"He's going to jail whether I testify or not," Lightning said, staring at Cecil. "You know that." There was too much evidence for him to just walk away from this unscathed. There had to be, or else he wouldn't have been arrested. The case was basically lost for Zane's father by now anyway, so it was time that man was never mentioned to her again. "You think I'll testify against him just to get some kind of revenge. Right?"

"It seems logical to want that kind of thing, yes," Cecil agreed. "What girl wouldn't want to defend herself against the man that nearly took her purity?" He grunted when he was suddenly shoved back, a hand coming to his chest, where he was pushed.

"That's enough," Riku growled. He wouldn't have Lightning being talked to like that, or about in such a way. Cecil needed to leave, before Riku filed a harrassment report against the attorney.

Light's eyes widened, the girl reaching and grabbing Riku's wrist. "Don't," she said lowly. "He'll threaten to sue you unless I testify against Zane's dad if you keep this up." She tugged at his arm, silently telling him to come back inside. Yeah, the words shook her up, but the idea of testifying and seeing the man again was worse.

Riku's jaw flexed as he gritted his teeth, looking to Lightning in his rage. "Nobody gets away with talking to you like that," he said, defensive. He then turned his aqua eyes to Cecil's brown, jabbing a finger at the man. "Watch your mouth." Or I'll shut it for you.

The Keyblader is defensive of the girl? I can work with this, and quite well. He met Riku's glare with his own, not saying a word. He was sure the two knew that he would continue to send the press their way unless Lightning agreed to testify. Riku wasn't helping the case.

Lightning nearly sighed. "You're encouraging him," she said quietly to Riku. "Step back inside. I'll handle this." She'd try to make some kind of deal to get rid of both Cecil and the press, but she'd do it without Riku breathing down her neck. Unless, of course, he was stubborn and stuck around. His anger wasn't helping the situation though.

Riku felt Lightning's grip on his wrist still, and her words were logical. Even if he was angry and thought he was right for standing up for her, it was only making things worse. He lowered his hand from Cecil and stepped back inside, his arm leaving Lightning's hand in the silence. He wasn't going far, though. Cecil could count on that.
"Alright," Lightning said after a few moments. "What can I do to get you out of my life?" She stared at the reporter and tried to ignore Riku's close presence. She should have assumed that he wouldn't step away from the conversation completely. But at least she now stood between Cecil and Riku, so the latter wouldn't shove him again.

Cecil let his gaze rest on the girl, the person he came to talk to in the first place. "All I would like is for you to put this man to justice, in your own way. I believe you would feel better about the situation if you were to put him behind bars with your testimony," he explained. "I would like for you to feel better about the situation and get over this time in your life, because it clearly wasn't enjoyable for you."

"Stop acting like you know me," Lightning said, unaffected by his smooth talking. "You don't know what would make me 'feel better'. In fact, if you really want to make me feel better, leave me out of this." She wasn't interested in putting Mr.Yedon in jail; his actions were his conviction, not Lightning's words.

Cecil could see that he wasn't going to win today, but he had a retaliation to that. He nodded to the girl. "Expect the press tomorrow, Miss Farron," he said calmly. He then looked to the young man who was glaring at him over his shoulder. "Mr. Cole." Upon seeing Riku's eyes narrow more, he turned, starting down the hallway of the apartment to reach the elevator. His time here was done.

Lightning's eyes narrowed as she stepped out into the hallway. She didn't follow; she only glared at him. "Thanks for the compassion," she called sarcastically. If only there was something she could punch nearby. She was ticked off now all right. She knew that he didn't really care about her well-being, but still...couldn't he give her a break here?

Riku had his arms crossed over his broad chest, the young man glaring at the floor now as he thought about what just happened. Well, seems like we'll be stuck with the press for a bit, he realized. Even after he told them to back off, they would be back. That'll make a great cover story. His thoughts were bitter as his eyebrows furrowed, the young man not liking the looks of things.
Lightning stepped back inside the apartment, knowing that there was nowhere she could run to. There never was. She tsked and started pacing the living room, hands curled into fists by her sides. Who did this guy think he was, screwing her over like this? He was sick if he really thought pestering her after everything was worth having her in court.

"Guess we better prepare ourselves," Riku said after a long moment of silence, his arms falling to his sides. His eyes trailed Lightning as she paced. "The hounds will be on our tails come morning." He wasn't happy about it, but he should have been used to it, due to his time in the spotlight not too long ago. Occasionally he would catch the press snapping pictures of him from across the street or something, but he ignored it to the best of his ability. It was better that way.
Lightning stopped behind the couch and punched the top of it. That was the only surface she could punch without doing damage to it. I'm sorry I brought this upon you, she wanted to say. She glared down at the couch for a few moments, then shut her eyes when sudden moisture appeared. This was too much pressure after everything. Way too much.
  • Author
Riku didn't move, slightly surprised at the punch but not showing it. He gazed at Lightning in silence, eyebrows furrowed. What could he say to help her out? Was there anything? Because right now it didn't seem like there was, and Riku wasn't really one to take no for an answer.
Light opened her eyes once the moisture was gone. "I don't need to go anywhere tomorrow," she said more calmly, though her fist was still against the couch. "I can stay here and maybe they'll get bored without me around." If Riku could maybe stay in as well, then they'd have another day to keep the press bored. It could help temporarily.

Riku shook his head slightly. "We can't hide from them, Lightning," he informed her softly. The press camped out if they had to; they wouldn't stop until they got what they wanted. That was what they were known for.
Lightning looked ahead of her, and after a few moments, she nodded. Riku was right and she knew it. "They asked me a weird question earlier..." she said, recalling it instantly. "Something about...did I know what people were saying on fanfiction?" She glanced over at him in confusion, wondering if he had a clue what the reporter could have meant.

Riku arched an eyebrow. "Fanfiction?" he repeated in wonder. What was that? The only people he knew that may have had a clue were Kairi and Namine; they were both pretty creative, and up-to-date on newsworthy stuff. Apparently this "fanfiction" was part of that.
Lightning shrugged. Apparently Riku was as clueless as she was. Oh well, if it was important, it would come up again in the near future. She jumped over the back of the couch and sat down on one side of the couch, doing it all in a casual move. She leaned her head back and stared ahead of her, thoughts and emotions jumbled.
