Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Roxas surprised himself when he was the one who broke the silence. "Sora," he said to his friend. "What else is on this site? Is it just you, Kairi, and Riku?" He wouldn't have been surprised, considering that the three of them were the really famous ones. Sora and Riku because of saving the worlds, and Kairi because she married Sora. Roxas was Sora's Nobody, but he faded into the background a lot.

"Nope," Sora said with the shake of his head. "There's stuff about you too. And Namine." He looked over at the latter and then back down at the laptop, seeing that Kairi was almost at the right page. His friends were going to be really surprised at what they saw.

"Oh..." Namine tucked some hair behind her ear, wondering just exactly was said about her. She had heard about it from Kairi a while ago, but she never bothered to see it herself. Hopefully nothing embarrassing was written about her.

"Got it," Kairi said, alerting her friends that she found the page where all of the fanfiction for Riku and Lightning was listed. It was quite a bit, considering they had only been seen together for a little over a day. Five stories, at least.

Riku moved to stand beside Sora behind the couch, leaning against the back of it with his hands as he looked at the laptop in Kairi's grasp. He saw quite a few titles, with summaries underneath them. "That many after only a day?" he asked, bewildered. Who had the time to do this?

"Looks like some of it was written earlier," Lightning said, furrowing her eyebrows as she stood next to Riku behind the couch. The further down the page they went, the older they were. How were some of these written in early November, soon after their friendship? Were people watching them before this whole thing went down? Though they were all good questions, she asked another one. "Since when am I an acrobat in a travelling circus?" That was one of the stories, and in that one, Riku was...the ringmaster. Of course he was.

Riku released a small "hmph", smirking as well. That one seemed to be an interesting one. "And apparently I'm the prince of a kingdom called Glassice, who falls in love with a princess of the neighboring country, Zenobia," he explained, eyebrows furrowing. "Heh, who comes up with this stuff?"

"People who obviously want you two together," Kairi commented, looking over her shoulder at her two friends. She smiled weakly, knowing that there were feelings there. How could the two of them not see it?

Lightning tilted her head, studying the page. These ideas were completely ridiculous and unrealistic. They were ordinary people, sort of. Not royalty or circus freaks anyway. "What's the word at the end of all the summaries?" she asked in confusion. "Rightning?" That definitely wasn't a word, but maybe it meant something in this strange world of fanfiction.

Namine had taken the seat beside Kairi on the couch, and she leaned forward slightly to see what Lightning was talking about. Sure enough, the word "Rightning" was there. "Oh!" she said, capturing the others' attention. "I get it now. Riku and Lightning... Rightning." She then pointed to the screen. "Someone else just called it Right." She furrowed her eyebrows. "Kairi, didn't you say you and Sora as a pairing were called SoKai? Perhaps it's something like that."

"Makes sense," Sora said with a small nod. "But that's not nearly as catching as 'Right'." He dared to smirk over at Riku, though he was sure that he was going to get pummeled for this later. Oh well; Riku got away with teasing him for years, and now it was Sora's turn to get at least a little bit of revenge.

Riku glared over at Sora and saw that smirk. He wordlessly lifted his hand and smacked his friend in the shoulder, not hesitating in the least with the strength behind it. He then looked back to the screen, seeing Kairi click on one of the stories. "Kairi, read it out loud," he requested. He wanted to see just what people were writing about him and Lightning.

Kairi nodded, eyes narrowing slightly as she focused. "'Flowers bob and petals flutter in the wind, accompanied by the gently rustling noise of a leaf laden tree overhead. There's a woman curled helplessly amongst the delicate flowerbed, whimpering and crying out, but still caught in the throngs of an unknown nightmare. Her hair is of the lightest pink, her eyes are clenched defiantly shut, and her thin fingers are twisted into fists and buried in fistfuls of grass. Such a serene environment upset by the woman's fitfully sleeping presence. Chaos in a place of peace.' " She continued to read, curious as to where this was going. The woman was clearly Lightning, but where was Riku in all of this? "'There's a young boy with silver hair peering curiously at the goings on; his eyes are bright and slightly nervous, their green depths still wide in childhood innocence. He's perched atop a mildly large boulder and overlooking the clearing. He'd only wanted to come spend some time in the little meadow a ways away from his house—it's been his secret spot since he was six; a place for him and him alone to come and think. Absently tugging on the sleeve of his oversized yellow jacket, the kid frowns. Riku is his name.'"

Namine blinked when Kairi stopped. "Looks like you're a little guy in this one, Riku," she commented. That was interesting. She hadn't noticed that story before.

Lightning glanced away from the computer awkwardly. That wasn't realistic at all! Who could imagine her whimpering, first of all? Ridiculous. "Well that's not realistic at all," she muttered. "Riku's eyes aren't green." They were aqua. But that was a stupid detail for her to pick out, along with the other things being out of place. Her crying out, Riku being a small guy...Those were bigger things to nitpick.

Riku glanced over at Lightning, unable to help it. You noticed? he wondered silently. Lightning paid that much attention to detail, especially of him. He smiled slightly before looking back to the screen. "Next." Kairi hit the back button and started scrolling through other stories, trying to find a good enough one to read aloud.
"When we're done with these two, we'll have to show Roxas some stuff he's in," Sora said, glancing over at his friend who was standing near enough to see the laptop. There was a lot of stuff pairing him and Namine together; hopefully that wouldn't be too awkward to see now that they were really friends.

Kairi nodded. "Alright," she said softly, looking through the stories Lightning and Riku were in. She found another one and clicked on that. She read the first bit and then immediately exited out. A blush lifted to her cheeks. "Um...we're not reading that one," she said, glancing behind her briefly before changing the search criteria. It was time they looked up stuff for Roxas.

Lightning had managed to catch a glimpse of the one that Kairi pulled up, and it made her blush. Why would people write about something so...so...inappropriate?! She and Riku were real people, not just story-book characters! This is creepy. So creepy. And Cecil had put people up to publishing stuff to pressure her and Riku? Even weirder.

Riku lifted a hand to his hair, glancing away as he let Kairi search for stuff with Roxas in it. He didn't catch what Kairi read, but if she couldn't read it, it must have been pretty bad. Whatever it was, he was glad he didn't see it. Not that I'd be ashamed of something like that happening between us. Lightning's a beautiful girl and... He focused back on the screen, throwing that thought away. He was only going to make himself feel more awkward about this.
Roxas stared at the screen, horrified at what he saw. "People think I'm in a relationship with Axel?!" he cried in alarm. He felt sick to his stomach right away at the mere thought of it. His best friend died a few years ago saving Sora, but people didn't seem to realize that in their writing. The first stories were about Roxas and Axel in high school together, another about Axel being a bartender and Roxas needing a pick-me-up... Ugh, he shuddered.

Riku tried his best to muffle his laughter, pressing his lips together as he glanced over at Roxas. He then lifted a hand to his lips, closing his eyes. Don't laugh, he told himself. He couldn't, or Roxas would storm out of here in a heart beat. He couldn't upset the Nobody, since he was kind of sensitive sometimes.
Sora laughed, unable to hold it back. He wrapped an arm around Roxas's shoulders in a brotherly way, smirking lightly. "Don't let it get to you," he said with a smile. "People on this site are crazy. I saw a story where I had an affair on Kairi with Xemnas." He shuddered and saw Roxas's mood lighten in reassurance. This site had some lunatics on it all right.

"That was disturbing," Kairi said, speaking of the story Sora just mentioned. She shook her head slightly, getting that image out of her head. She continued to scroll through the stories and found one that was actually quite possible. "Hey! I found one with you and Namine, Roxas!" She clicked on it instantly. The summary gave her the impression that it was adorable, and she was excited to read it, unaware of the fact that Namine was nearly blushing.
"There's a lot of you two," Sora added, hearing Roxas mutter "Oh boy" to himself. He took his arm back and looked down at the computer, wondering if Kairi was going to read this one aloud too. A lot of people thought Roxas and Namine should have been a couple, even if they were only getting to know each other better this year. Oh well. It could happen.

Namine saw that Kairi was going to read this aloud, and she put a hand on her friend. "No, Kairi, don't read it," she said without thought. She somehow knew this was going to be embarrassing, and by Roxas's muttered reply to Sora, he wasn't looking forward to this. Maybe it was best they didn't hear it.

"Oh, c'mon, I'm sure it's adorable," Kairi said. She glanced over at Namine before looking back to the screen. Her friend sighed in defeat, and Kairi took that as her cue. "Dreary," she said, reading the title. "'He traveled down the empty, black alleyways. Sheets of rain came down on him as lightning lit up the sky above, his shoes squishing against the wet pavement of the streets. Neon signs illuminated the area, as if the night's large moon wasn't enough for the dark city. But it never got any brighter, because there was a reason this place was so gloomy and disheartening,'" she read. "'It represented the state of his heart. He guessed it was only fitting. Everything had fallen far from the tall, happy pedestals, where the lightning had struck and torn his world apart. Water trickled down the side of his face and fell from the spikes on the back of his neck, sending shivers down his spine as it went underneath his long cloak. The droplets slid off the leather, though his hair was another story; the rain clung there, soaking his scalp and matting his spikes to his forehead. But did he care? Of course not. There was no one there to make him worry about the way he looked. He was alone now, deserted. Getting away from home was the only thing he had to do, a walk in the rain convincing him that somebody, somewhere, knew the condition of his heart. Defeated. Broken. Shattered.'" Kairi stopped, surprised with how dark this one seemed to be. Apparently somebody thought Roxas was the darker type, more mysterious. A lot like Riku. "'The pieces had all been lined up, but now they were scattered. What more could be taken from him? Nothing. Nothing was as bad as her disappearance.'"

"Yikes," Roxas muttered, lifting a hand to the back of his head and running it over his spikes. "Do people really see me as pure angst or something?" Seriously, this was depressing. And with the last sentence, he knew where this story was going. The reason he was so sorrowful was because some girl was gone, and that girl was Namine. No offense, Namine, but I doubt I'd ever become like that for you.

Kairi bit her lip at the question, hitting the back button. "Here, I'll find another one," she said. Until then, she hoped things wouldn't get awkward. It was clear that Roxas had gotten upset over someone taking Namine, and if Kairi had looked over, she would see that Namine was blushing madly at the assumption that Roxas would be that way toward her.
"I think we're all good for now, Kai," Sora said to his wife. Everyone was pretty quiet now. "We did mostly come just to check on that stuff for Riku and Lightning." He glanced over at the two, though he wasn't able to read Lightning's expression. She had been all right with Roxas and Namine being in the spotlight for a while.

Riku leaned away from the couch when he saw Kairi shutting the laptop down. "Well..." he started, though he wasn't sure what to say. That was awkward on a few levels. First with him and Sora, and then him and Lightning. Followed by Roxas and Axel, and then Roxas and Namine. Clearly nothing good came from that site, for any of them.
Sora looked over at Riku, and instead of teasing his friend, he helped him out by phrasing what all of them were thinking. "People are crazy." If they looked at the site for a while, they'd see a bunch more stuff about how people thought they lived. They were pretty ordinary now; people just didn't want to drop how they saved the worlds in the past. Not that he could blame them--saving the worlds was a pretty big deal.
