Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku glanced over at Lightning, smiling slightly before he looked back to the menu. He read it over in a comfortable silence, not at all feeling tension between him and Lightning. He was glad for that, though he was surprised at the same time. They were really close at the gym, so he expected there to be some awkward tension...but there wasn't.

A minute or two after the waiter brought back their drinks, Lightning glanced up from the menu and saw two people entering the restaurant. "Riku," she said quietly, nudging him while keeping her gaze up towards the front. The two probably couldn't see her and Riku yet, but they would soon enough. ...Would Riku be okay with Sora and Kairi seeing him like this, or would he withdraw? Honestly, she would be a little hurt if he took his arm away. It was like he would be disowning her.

Riku followed Lightning's gaze in silence, and upon seeing the couple in the entrance, he blinked. "Oh...date night," he reminded himself. It was a Friday night, and that was Sora and Kairi's weekly date night. He had forgotten all about it.
Sora looked around casually, as one usually did when they followed the hostess to a table. But he was surprised when he saw two people that he thought he recognized. "Kai," he said softly to his wife. "Is that...?" Was that Riku and Lightning sitting in that booth, with Lightning sitting underneath Riku's arm?

Kairi looked over to where her husband did, and she couldn't help but smile as she made eye contact with Riku. He lifted a hand to wave to her, and she waved back. "It sure is," she said, speaking to Sora. Riku and Lightning were here...and looking very comfortable.
Sora smirked softly. "Why don't we go join them?" The booth was big enough for the four of them, especially if Riku and Lightning sat in close proximity like they were now. Man oh man, Riku. I'm gonna get you for this later. But not in front of Lightning. She was stressed, and he respected that he couldn't tease her right now.

Kairi glanced over at Sora, holding his hand much like she had been since they left the car. "Are you sure?" she asked softly. "What if they're on a date?" Maybe they should leave them be, for privacy. But for some reason, she had a feeling they weren't on the date, even if it looked like it. Was that intentional?

Riku looked down at Lightning briefly. "I swear, those two have the worst staring problem I've ever seen," he told her in her ear, smirking slightly. His friends were making it quite obvious that they were talking about him and Lightning. Subtlety was never their best act.

"Then we wouldn't have to tell them the idea we came up with earlier," Sora responded, giving Kairi's hand a squeeze. "We can at least talk to them for a little while. We'll move if we need to." The place wasn't too crowded, since they were here for a late dinner. Who could have guessed that Riku and Lightning would be the same though? Not him.

"You stare a lot too, wise guy," Lightning said smoothly, nudging Riku lightly with her arm. He often stared at her specifically.

Kairi looked from Sora to Riku again, seeing that he was looking down at Lightning with a smile. Since when had this happened? Maybe her and Sora's plan wouldn't have to go through if things were coming together for Riku and Lightning. "...Okay," she said with a small nod. She would let Sora lead.

Riku kept his arm behind Lightning on the booth, looking down at her with a small smile. "Stare at who?" he asked, curious. Who was he staring at a lot that she caught it? Riku thought he was sneaky with that kind of stuff.

Lightning looked up at Riku, arching a brow. "Me." If he thought that she didn't notice it, then he was very mistaken. She acted clueless sometimes just to let him think that he was subtle, but he really wasn't. Not with her.

Sora told the hostess that they'd like to sit in the booth with their friends, so she headed off to tell whoever she needed to about two more people at the table. "Hey guys," Sora greeted Riku and Lightning, seeing the latter look over at him. "Can we sit with you guys?"

Riku blinked when Lightning answered him, but he didn't really have enough time to react in any other way, because that was when Sora and Kairi approached. He looked up at his friends, his surprise melting away as he smirked again, calm and collected Riku resurfacing. "Do we really have a choice?" he commented, seeing Kairi shake her head at his attitude. Sora and Kairi were going to sit with them anyway.
Sora smirked, crossing his arms and looking at Riku. "Now," he started. "Either you two can scoot to one side or Kairi and I can sandwich you. Which you probably don't want." He knew he didn't want it. No offense to Riku, but he'd rather sit next to his wife if he could.

Riku rolled his eyes, but then he looked down at Lightning. He silently motioned for her to scoot over with him, the young man moving more to his side so Kairi and Sora could slide in near Lightning. It looked like this would be dinner for four.
After Lightning and Riku moved down and Sora and Kairi sat down, a waiter came and got drinks for the two of them. After he walked away, Sora asked the two what he was wondering. "So," he said casually, leaning back with his arm around Kairi. "What brings you two here?" It wasn't a taunt necessarily, though Riku would probably take it as one. Oh well; he couldn't beat him up while Kairi was here.

Riku crossed his arms against his chest now, his back against the booth as he looked at his best friend. "We're hungry, obviously," he said, his smart-alecky attitude returning. He wasn't that way as much when he was with Lightning, but when Sora was hinting at things that weren't going on, he was usually on the receiving end. "Date night?"

Kairi nodded, sitting next to Lightning as she looked up from the menu. "Mhm," she hummed. "Every Friday. We haven't been here in a while, so we thought we'd come back for old time's sake." She and Sora had gone to nearly every restaurant in town, but they hadn't been here in quite a while. Kairi was the one who suggested it, just because she missed this place. It was so cozy.

"Looks like we're not the only ones here on a date," Sora said, glancing at Riku before he looked out at the rest of the area. There were a few couples around, all of them mushy with each other because of the atmosphere. It was a good place to bring a date--a lot of people knew that. Apparently Riku did too. Didn't he bring a girl here before?

Riku thought Sora's brief look his way was supposed to mean something, but he shook it off. "Apparently this place is still trying to make everyone blind," he said, glancing over at Lightning. She had trouble reading the menu in the dark, which was why their table was more illuminated than others. He hoped that didn't cause a problem, like people running over to ask him and Sora for autographs, or people taking pictures of him and Lightning. That wouldn't be too great.
"You didn't seem to mind it with your last date here," Sora said with a small smirk, noticing Lightning just stare at the menu in her hands. "Didn't people complain that you were making out with Ashelia?" He heard the story about how Riku made out with a girl in this restaurant, and how he had thought people wouldn't notice too much because the booth was darker. Well, he had been wrong.

Riku's expression fell, his smirk from before disappearing at the reminder. You did not just bring this up, his glare seemed to say, but being Riku, he covered it up well. "Oh, you mean Ashe?" he asked, He almost didn't recognize the name, since he never called her by her full name apart from the time they first met. "Yeah, but that was a while back." He was seventeen when that happened, and stupid. He nearly got thrown out of the restaurant because of it.

Kairi smiled a little. "Riku, you nearly got kicked out of the restaurant," she reminded him. "People were flashing pictures of you left and right, and people were kind of disgusted." She took a sip of her water as Riku rolled his eyes. That was the time when Riku and Sora were heavily bombarded with paparazzi. Naturally, Riku would get caught in that act.

Serves you right, Lightning wanted to say. But she kept her mouth shut and turned the page of the menu. Riku was an idiot to make out with a girl in public, especially considering who he was. Still, she was jealous. Whoever this Ashe girl was, she had never heard Riku talk about her before. Must have been the distant past. Still...

"You were with her for a little while though," Sora recalled naturally, glancing past Riku to the aisle as he thought. That had been one of Riku's longer relationships--two months. Riku really didn't stay settled with a single girl for a while.

"Two months?" Riku remembered, glancing up at the lamp briefly as he tried to recall the correct amount of time. "That was stupid. Nice girl, but she was shallow." She used him for the fame, wanting publicity with a Keyblade wielder who saved the world. Sora was taken, or at least a little. It was clear to everyone that Sora had his sights on Kairi at the time, so a lot of girls tried but failed. Riku was the next available choice.
"Whatever happened to her?" Sora wondered aloud, looking back at Riku without factoring in that this could be awkward for Lightning. Apparently Riku didn't either, since he was continuing the conversation. Back on topic, though, Sora hadn't seen Ashe around for a while. She was Riku's age, so she should have been in her second year of college.

Riku shrugged his shoulders, staring at the table now. "Dunno," he muttered. "And don't really care." He felt two gazes on him at that moment, and he knew one was Sora's. The other, Kairi's. He met the redhead's gaze. "What?"

Kairi's eyebrows furrowed in disappointment. "Don't be so bitter," she scolded, acting much like the mother of Riku and Sora as she used to when they were younger. "You know you liked her at least a little bit." She was a nice girl, very friendly. It just sucked, what she did to Riku. Apparently Riku never forgave her for that.

"Gotta agree with Kairi on this one," Sora said, glancing over at his wife before looking back to Riku. "You did like her." Ashe didn't come across as the type of girl to use Riku for his fame, but in the end, that was what she did. Maybe it wasn't that way in the beginning though; maybe the fame got to her head. It was easy to let that happen.

Kairi noticed that they were excluding one person from this conversation, so she decided to include her. "Ashe was one of the first girls Riku dated when he got back home," she told Lightning. "Things were good at first, but she ended up using him for the publicity." Riku clearly hadn't gotten over it, though he covered it up well. She looked to her best friend, eyes a little sad. If things went well, she doubted the same would happen with Lightning. From what she'd seen, Lightning genuinely cared. But then again, Ashe came off the same way in the beginning.

"Kairi," Riku said, his tone one of disapproval. He knew that this was awkward because Lightning was here, but did she really have to discuss it to her? His best friend looked at him for a moment before glancing in the other direction, clearly catching the hint. The story was embarrassing; he didn't want Lightning to know the details.
