Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

Lightning looked up at Riku when she felt his eyes on her, and a part of her was surprised. What more did the press want? Not...kissing. She wasn't going to have her first kiss for the sake of the media. Absolutely not. "...We'd need to try pretty hard to convince them, then," she said quietly.

Riku nodded, agreeing with that. He didn't think the press would want too much from them. Hand holding was a must, as were dinner dates. He doubted anything would come to kissing, but if it did...Riku wasn't sure if that would go over well.

Light glanced over to the side again. She'd set those limits if the time came. "Are you already decided?" she asked quietly. He seemed like he was, even if he was uneasy about it. They were running low on options, obviously. This or Cecil. Neither was appealing.

"I'd rather fake a relationship with you than let you give in to him," Riku said, referring to Cecil. The attorney wasn't going to get his way, not this time. Riku would fake a relationship with Lightning, even if it wasn't exactly how he wanted to go about things.
Lightning looked down for a few seconds, but when she spoke, she focused her vision on Riku's eyes. "...Me too." She didn't want to give Cecil the satisfaction, for one thing. But the thought of going back to court and having her life exposed again scared her. And she wasn't easily scared.

Riku gazed at Lightning in acceptance of her answer, and curious at how she was looking at him. She told him she didn't get scared easily, but he could see it in her eyes. She was afraid of going back to court. He started toward her in silence, knowing that he had to do something to ease her worries.
Lightning glanced down at Riku's chest as he approached instead of looking into his eyes. It was frustrating sometimes how easily he could read her. Frustrating but also healthier for her because he was forcing her to accept her emotions again. That was another thing she was scared of. What if emotions didn't allow her to do what she needed to do for Serah? She told herself a million times that Serah was the one who had a future, not her. And she believed it...for a time.

Riku stopped in front of Lightning, but because she wouldn't look him in the eye, he put a hand underneath her chin to lift her gaze. Look at me, he requested. And trust me. He wouldn't let her get hurt. He couldn't, not after all she went through.
The feeling of Riku's hand underneath her chin was starting to become a familiar one with how often he did this. He was so unabashed in requesting her attention that she didn't feel awkward about the intimate contact. Putting up a wall out of instinct, Lightning looked up and met Riku's eyes.

Riku lifted an eyebrow slightly, seeing the look in Lightning's eyes. "...Put the wall down," he requested, his hand lingering under her chin. It's me. She didn't have to be so on guard around him. They were living together, and tonight at the gym, they nearly... Riku pushed that thought out of his mind, forgetting it.

Lightning glanced down again, not meeting Riku's eyes again for a few seconds. She lifted one of her hands and lightly wrapped it around Riku's, holding it up between them. "You're asking for a lot," she said quietly. She worked for years to build this wall. Healthy or not, she was convinced that she needed this wall to be able to function in this cruel world.

Riku shook his head, wrapping his fingers around Lightning's smaller hand. "Not a lot," he said softly. "Just for you." He wanted her to be herself, and not be afraid, especially with him. He wouldn't hurt her. She had to have known that.
Light shut her eyes, squeezing Riku's hand. He wanted her. That was a lot, whether he realized it or not. But...she trusted him so much. He earned this. Slowly, she opened her eyes back up and met Riku's eyes. In hers were her feelings. Fear of getting back into the situation with Zane's family. Sorrow over having her own past revealed in court. Anger for the same reason. But also desperation, because she knew she couldn't live like this much longer.

Riku saw the look in Lightning's eyes, all of the emotions that had been bundled up lately. His hand left Lightning's as he lifted both to cup her face, his eyes resting on hers. "You're going to be okay," he told her gently, saying it slowly so she fully understood him. The message behind his words was clear: I'm going to take care of you. He cared so much for this girl, and he didn't mind showing it. That was why he was taking the actions he was now, like touching her face. It was an affectionate gesture, but that was okay.
Lightning set the hand that was already raised on Riku's extended arm, not that it was extended extremely far since he was right in front of her. She held his gaze even if she instinctively wanted to tear away. Even if she couldn't find her voice, she knew that her eyes would speak to him. I believe you. I believe in you. There was one other thing that was in her eyes earlier, and what was making itself more clear after hearing Riku's words. Hope in a future that was actually happy. And the strength that Riku saw in her--the perseverance to push through this and not give up, despite all the other emotions.

Riku let one of his thumbs travel over Lightning's cheek, his expression remaining the same, even if he did interpret the look in her eyes. She trusted him, and that was a feat that he was glad he accomplished. He cared for her, and he liked her. He didn't know when those feelings developed, but they did...and he actually liked them.
Instead of focusing on her own emotions, Lightning gazed into Riku's eyes and deciphered the look in them. The care was obvious--his actions spoke as loudly as his eyes did. But...he felt desperate too. He knew that the pressure would overwhelm her soon. Yet he admired her for standing strong so far, even if she considered this weakness. He really did see her positively.

Riku moved one of his hands to tuck some of her hair away from her face. "You sure you want to go through with this?" he asked her, voice soft since they were so close. Once they stepped out as a "couple" to the paparazzi, there was no going back. Not without some backlash.
Lightning glanced downward. She wasn't sure of anything any more. The only thing she was sure of was that she felt safe with Riku, and if they were a couple, he'd stay with her. In court he wouldn't. She swallowed, glancing up at Riku's eyes again. She had a question that needed answering before she answered his. "This isn't fake, is it?" she asked quietly.

Riku's hands lingered where they were, though his eyebrows furrowed slightly. "What isn't?" he asked softly. What wasn't fake? His gestures, his feelings? Neither were, and he wasn't sure if that was obvious or not.
"This," Lightning said, referring to it all. His hands caressing her cheeks, the close proximity and any show of affection. She felt she knew the answer, but she asked the question anyway. It was about time they hinted at something, since they just ignored a lot of the closeness they experienced.

Riku's expression relaxed as he figured out what Lightning was getting at, and being as confident as ever, he didn't shy away from the question. "No," he said softly, shaking his head a little. His hands remained where they were, resting on her face. "It's not." None of this was fake, not for him. And by the way she was reacting, it wasn't fake for her either.
Lightning's cheeks turned a little pink at the confession, but again, she forced herself to hold eye contact with him. "Then I'm sure I want to try Sora's plan," she said softly. She couldn't make herself say "fake relationship", because that wasn't what she wanted. That was what it was going to be though. But...as long as Riku cared about her and she cared about him, things would hopefully turn out alright. They were playing a dangerous game.

"Keep blushing like that, and it'll be more believable," Riku commented, withdrawing his hands from Lightning's face. He had felt the heat radiate to her cheeks, and he figured that was enough embarrassment for now. Clearly his confession did that, but was that good or bad?
Lightning scoffed, feeling more like herself now. She took her hand off Riku's arm and lightly nudged him away before she started out of the kitchen towards the rest of the apartment. She supposed now was as good a time as any to go to bed, not that she planned on sleeping any time soon. Today sure was something.
