Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku smiled a little, nodding. "The last one," he commented shortly. He started down the sidewalk at a casual pace, not rushing. It wouldn't make a difference, since the paparazzi would follow them. They wouldn't back off until they got their answers...at least for today.

"Since when have you two been official?" a woman asked, putting a tape recorder near Riku in order to hear his answer.

"We've tried to keep our feelings under wraps," Riku said, looking over at Lightning with a warm smile. But he wasn't completely faking that bit. "But it didn't seem like it was worth the hassle. We decided to come clean."

Lightning smiled weakly up at Riku--a fake smile. She and Riku should have come up with a back-story for everything together. But at the same time, this gave her an excuse to let him do all the talking. She really didn't want to be fabricating lies like this, because...it hurt. Somehow, it hurt.

"Miss Farron," asked one reporter. "How do you feel?"

Lightning wished she didn't have to answer, but she knew she did in order to keep up the act. "Good," she said. "I'm proud I can finally call him mine." That part would have been completely true if they were actually in a relationship. He was a great guy, and she wished she could call him hers, but she was lying about that now.

Riku heard various forms of cooing at the declaration, and he squeezed Lightning's hand in encouragement. Good job so far, he silently told her. He lowered his head to be closer to her, immediately hearing the cameras go off at the little display of "affection." But it was just for him to direct her. "Keep walking," he whispered over other footsteps and questions. "They'll stop following eventually." But the reporters wouldn't leave until they got their answers.
Lightning nodded faintly, glancing up at Riku while his head was closer to hers. "You never did tell me where we were going," she stated as quietly as she could in this crowd. Riku said that they were going for a walk, but surely he had something in mind, right? It actually seemed like they could get somewhere though; the press wasn't nearly as vicious as they had been before. Sora's plan was a good one so far.

Riku smirked a little, keeping his fingers intertwined with Lightning's. "Just follow my lead," he directed softly. He lifted his head slightly and continued to look at Lightning, sending a wink her way. He walked silently, and the press moved out of their way as they traveled along the sidewalk. But he knew they wouldn't give up; they were relentless, especially with this kind of news.

Lightning glanced ahead after Riku's wink, feeling uneasy. It was just an act for the sake of the press. And she was hurt that was all that it was. Stop being a sap. You knew what you were signing up for. She just didn't know...Riku would be such a good faker. He winked at her before, but now she was wondering what his motivation was. She hid those thoughts as they walked though, with the press giving them some room but not enough to make her comfortable.

"Mr. Cole," a reporter started, snapping a picture. "Where are you taking Miss Farron? A lunch date? Shopping?"

Riku looked down at the ground at a particularly bright flash of light. "That's for me to know and for her to find out," he quipped smartly. The press chuckled softly, much nicer now that they were getting some news. Besides, he was good with the press, since he dealt with them for a while. Lightning would warm up eventually.

Lightning forced a small smile, knowing how that line came across. Charming and sweet. If only this weren't a part of a charade. If only Riku was actually being genuine...Eventually, she did find out where he was taking her. It wasn't a lunch date, but it was the reporter's second guess: shopping. And once they were inside the store, the press wouldn't be allowed to follow.

Riku held the door open for Lightning as they walked in the store, and once inside, he released a small sigh. "They're like leeches," he commented, seeing that they caught a few gazes with their entrance. Not surprising, but tolerable. He put a hand on Lightning's upper back, guiding her deeper into the store. He was actually going to buy her something today, and not just for the press.
"They sure are," Lightning agreed. After a few moments, she released a soft sigh. She guessed that was better than what was going on before...the harassment was much lighter, and it would continue to improve as they became old news. But she was already hating this charade I can't let Riku know that. Gotta keep up the act that I can bear this.

Riku moved his hand to sit on Lightning's opposite shoulder, his arm practically around her as they walked. "The trip's not just for the cameras, though," he continued. "You're actually getting something." They were walking toward the leather jackets now, actually. Lightning needed a better one if she was going to ride on his bike all the time...if she rode on it after the whole "couple" thing.
Lightning glanced over at Riku and then at the coats, surprised. Those were nice coats he was leading her towards. Expensive ones. "There's no need for that," she said. She had a coat, and even if it was a little old, she didn't need a new one. Riku didn't need to spend this kind of money on her.

Riku looked down at Lightning as they walked, and he shook his head. "You're not riding my bike without a better jacket," he told her. He already bought her a helmet, so a jacket wouldn't be too much. Besides, he could afford it. He wasn't doing this through pity or for the press; he was doing it because he wanted to.
"No getting out of this, huh?" Lightning asked, though she clearly knew the answer. Riku wasn't going to give her a choice in the matter--this was a gift that he was giving her, as a part of their cover. Or maybe not, since he brought up how she was going to wear it on the bike. Obviously she'd wear it in front of the press, too. They'd notice the gift and go wild that Riku knows how to treat a girl. It was a good cover.

"Nope," Riku said with a small smirk. He squeezed Lightning's shoulder before getting ahead. "Now c'mon. Try some of these on." She could pick out which ones she liked best, and he would pay. It was his treat.
"Bossy man," Lightning muttered, though she stopped by the cheapest rack and began to look through some of the coats. "Don't let this go to your head." She knew that Riku had an ego; that went right along with his competitive nature, because every time he competed, he usually won. That would give anybody a big ego. But being recognized by the press could also make a person feel really important.

Riku rolled his eyes, lingering by Lightning but looking around at all the different sections of the store. He got a vibe from her, and it screamed discomfort. He knew this would happen, not that he expected anything less. It just...surprised him, with how low it made him feel. Lightning wasn't comfortable with this, while he was perfectly fine. That wasn't okay.
Unfortunately, Lightning didn't find anything she liked on the cheapest rack. And if she bought the cheapest thing without liking it, Riku would be furious with her. She knew he had the money to spoil her, but the fact that he was doing this now with the press watching told her that this was just a part of the act. So she felt like she shouldn't let him do this. Yet this was what she signed up for. She exhaled a soft breath through her nose, picking out a black leather jacket off another rack. This one was nice.

Riku caught a few people staring at him, particularly girls Lightning's age. He looked away at that, focusing on the girl he was here with; the one who was his "girlfriend." He stood a few feet away, and he tilted his head at the jacket she was holding. "Try it on," he encouraged her with a small smile. "Let me see." He could see her wearing leather; it was a lot like her, with the tough exterior and softer inside. But she already had one as well, which also made it easier.
Lightning smiled weakly, taking off her old jacket and putting on the new. She had to admit that it felt warmer than her other one and looked nicer. She zipped it up partway, glancing down at it and tugging at the sleeves briefly. It did fit her really nicely. It made her feel older too, to have something nice like this.

Riku smiled, unable to help it. "Looks good," he said with a nod of approval. He liked it, and it seemed like Lightning felt the same. "I like it." He scanned her form afterward, admiring her. She was beautiful, as he stated before, multiple times. And she looked nice in the jacket. He believed it was a must-have.
Lightning's smile turned more genuine as she began to take the coat off. "Alright, then," she said. She put it back on the hanger and began to put on her other coat, figuring that she wouldn't try anything else on. Unless Riku had other plans, obviously. "That's what we'll get." She'd put it to good use, at least. And she did truly believe that Riku liked it on her.

Riku's smile remained as he nodded in acceptance. At least Lightning seemed to like the jacket; that was enough. He just hoped she was comfortable wearing it, and didn't think he did it for show. That wasn't the case at all, and if she really thought that way of him...he wouldn't be happy. He wasn't that shallow.
Though Lightning couldn't see the front doors from where they were, she looked in that direction. "Back out into the arms of the press, huh?" she asked softly, turning more serious. They hadn't been in the store too long, yet it was time to go back outside and have the press ask a million questions. And have Riku present more lies. This wasn't going to be fun.

Riku grabbed the jacket's hanger, looking down at Lightning now that he was closer. "Don't seem so enthusiastic," he commented, obviously sarcastic. He nudged her gently with his elbow, his flirtacious attitude shining through again. "Loosen up. Have some fun with it." It was a lot easier to deal with that way.
