Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku's eyebrows furrowed, the young man focusing forward again as he continued with the race. There was only another corner to go around before they began the running section of the triathlon. He knew he had good endurance; running around the worlds gave you great cardio workouts. He could handle this next part with ease.
"...Alright," Lightning said after a few moments. "I guess that means we have the lead." And since she had it, she intended to keep it. She wanted to beat Riku in this race if she could. Coming in second and facing his ego wouldn't be a pleasant experience. That was why she picked up her pace a little more once again, though her eyes were cautiously scanning the area. Those people didn't just crash on their own, something encouraged it. She was sure of it.

Riku caught Lightning speed up, and he did the same, matching her pace once more. "Let's make this a little more interesting," he suggested, feeling the wind whip through his shorter hair. "How about a friendly bet?" He glanced over at her, having noticed the bike racks up ahead. They had quite a lead, but they could still make a little wager.
Lightning arched a brow, glancing over at Riku briefly before she looked ahead again. "What do you have in mind?" she asked him. If he wanted to up the ante, she was willing to have some fun with this. But of course, she wanted to know what she was getting herself into before making any commitments.

Riku focused forward, slowing his speed as he rolled into a free space. "If I win," he started, hopping off his bike, "you have to come to at least one training session at the Guardian Corps." He turned to face her then, though he started backing up toward the next path. That was his side of the deal. She could list her terms, and he would agree. Most likely.
"Hmph," Lightning hummed with a slight smirk of amusement as she got off of her bike and headed over in Riku's direction. "And if I win...?" She trailed off, unsure of what she wanted. Did Riku's GC have a gym that she could use? She'd feel weird using it without committing to his cause though...What could she get out of this deal?

Riku glanced up at the sky, then turning around and starting off in a jog, since Lightning was nearby. "If you win...I'll never bring the subject up again," he then declared. It was a reasonable deal. He did bug her about joining lately, and if she won, he would leave her alone. "How's that sound?"
Lightning found the deal agreeable. "Sounds good," she said with a nod, catching up and matching Riku's pace. She didn't want to hear about his cause ever again, so if she won, she'd achieve that. If she lost...Well, going would give her a good work out. It wasn't that bad of a punishment.

Riku smiled a little, satisfied. "Deal," he said, focusing forward then. Now it was a race to the finish. Of course, he was going to pace himself; he would sprint when he saw the finish line. He may not have been as fast as Sora, but he had some speed.
Lightning focused her attention up ahead once the deal was struck. The path was actually a nice one, not that was too surprised. This island was really nice as a whole. She was grateful when they started running through an area shaded in trees though, away from the beating sun. That was good, because it was really a hot day. She wondered if any of the other contestants dropped out for that reason.

Riku felt a gentle breeze from the trees around the area, and it calmed him some, despite his increased heart rate. He and Lightning were evenly matched, even if there was an age difference. He wasn't sure if that meant he was in bad shape or she was in great shape. He liked to think the latter, since he hadn't been hitting the gym for nothing.
Lightning heard the faint rustling going through the trees and the bushes along this path, but she thought she heard a little something extra. Her head turned sharply to her right about halfway down the trail, but she didn't see anything at all. Only a bush. But that noise was too loud for it to just be a squirrel, wasn't it? ...You're becoming just as paranoid as he is. Great.

Riku's eyebrows furrowed as he focused ahead, having heard the same noise as Lightning. It didn't sound...natural, he guessed. It was almost forced. He picked up his pace a little, aware that they were halfway there. He could handle a faster pace until the last hundred yards.
Lightning didn't pick up her pace until she was three steps behind Riku. When she realized she was falling behind, she matched his new pace, but she was still a few steps behind at that point. Oh well, they weren't right at the ending yet. She would catch up and then beat him across that finish line.

Riku heard his footsteps hit the path beneath him, and he counted them to a beat in his head. Of course, that only distracted him, as he missed a rope that was pulled as soon as he took another step forward. He grunted, toppling to the ground and landing roughly on his side in the dirt. He squeezed his eyes shut, feeling a sharp pain in his ankle and a stinging sensation in his shoulder. What the...?!
Lightning witnessed Riku topple, but she was already too close to him to avoid the very thing that tripped him up. She tried to jump over the rope, but the tip of her foot caught it. She grunted roughly when she hit the ground, feeling her leg get scrached up on some of the rocks that were right where she landed. She hissed in pain, squeezing her eyes shut before she looked back to see the rope. What was this about?!

Riku's trained ears caught onto snickering in the nearby trees, and he sharply turned his head as he lie on his side. "Hey!" he cried, but that was when he heard rapid footsteps, growing faint with every second. He frowned, his teeth ground together as he looked down at his ankle. But that was when he noticed Lightning on the ground beside him. "You alright?"
"Fine," Lightning said through her teeth, glancing past Riku into the trees with furrowed eyebrows. She saw somebody just now. She was sure of it. But she was in no shape to go chase them through the woods. She started to push herself up, fighting the urge to wince when her right leg felt weak because of all the cuts. Glancing down at it, it was worse than she thought it was. Of course she'd skid briefly on the rocky part of the path. That was just her luck.

Riku groaned a little as he pulled his knee up, trying to get a look at his injured ankle. Of course, it throbbed with the movement. I've gone through worse, he reasoned, telling himself it wasn't that bad. He sat up a little and placed his foot gingerly back on the ground, releasing a breath. He turned his head when wind blew against his injured shoulder, gathering his attention to his bleeding cuts. He ignored the pain as he swiped at the rocks stuck to his beaten skin, then wiping the blood on his shorts. Kids, I bet.
Lightning lost her balance for a second when she felt that leg give out on her, but she recovered quickly enough. She took a step closer to the tree and leaned her back against it, looking down at her leg and seeing how dusty and bloody it was. That and there may have still been a rock or two in there. What joy this was. No way could she finish the race in this condition...Now she just had to focus on making it to the nearest medical stand, wherever it was. She was sure there was one between them and the finish line.

Riku rested an arm on his knee, staring at his ankle in disappointment. "Well, looks like that bet is off," he muttered. Neither of them could finish the race now; his ankle was sprained, and it looked like Lightning's leg was hurt as well. They would have to forfeit.
"Looks like it," Lightning agreed, angry. She hated not being able to finish what she started. Regardless, there was no point getting worked up over it now. "Come on. We need to get to the nearest medical stand." She slowly brought herself off the tree, trying hard not to limp forward and just walk normally. That was impossible to do.

Riku silently agreed, heaving himself to his feet. He grunted as he hopped slightly to steady himself, though he knew he would be limping toward the medical stand. It was embarrassing, sure, but there was nothing he could do about it. He vowed not to use his Keyblade during the triathlon, since someone would declare that he cheated. And he didn't have any potions on him. He was out of luck.
Lightning managed to make it out of the woods, and that was only about ten steps out. She grunted, squeezing a hand into a fist as she stopped and took the weight off that leg. She had to grit her teeth to not swear, because according to her mother, it wasn't fitting for a lady to curse. Her mom would roll over in her grave if she heard Lightning cuss.

Riku fought the pain that radiated through his foot and up his leg, looking over at Lightning as he limped to catch up with her. He noticed she was having some trouble, and he knew he was doing a little better. He could make it, but he didn't think she would. Riku made his way toward Lightning, limping all the while. "Here," he said, approaching her. "Let me help you."
