Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Lightning shook her head without looking over at Riku. "I'm fine," she said stubbornly. She wasn't about to depend on him, especially not while he was hurt himself. She wasn't some weak little girl in need of being babied. If she could just find a walking stick somewhere...But she didn't see any around. All that debris was taken away so that competitors wouldn't find it and trip each other up.

Riku stopped next to Lightning, fighting the pain in his ankle as he ground his teeth. He breathed evenly before lifting a hand. "Stop being stubborn," he said, lightly grasping Lightning's arm, that way he could loop it over his shoulders. "You won't make it on your own." She knew it just as well as he did.
Lightning was tense when Riku grabbed her arm, but she didn't yank it away, because he was right. "Humiliating," she muttered, glancing down at her leg again. She should have seen it coming! Now she had to walk with Riku's support. Any other girl would have been thrilled to have a handsome, strong guy helping them, but Lightning wasn't any other girl.

"Yeah, tell me about it," Riku said in reply. He wasn't happy about this either, but what could they do? He shifted his hold on Lightning's arm, starting to loop it over his shoulders so they could get going. They wouldn't finish, but there was always next time.
Lightning glanced back at the woods again, though the people were long gone by then. "Who do you think did it?" she asked, wincing when she put a little more pressure on that wounded leg again. She didn't know people around here yet, so she didn't know who would trip them up on purpose. And it most definitely wasn't an accident; she saw the rope.

Riku started down the path, putting weight on his foot as he helped Lightning. He winced with every step, but he held in his pain for both of their sakes. The medical stand wasn't too far ahead, he was sure. "Beats me," he admitted lowly. "If I had to guess, it would be those punks I told you about last week." The rebellious kids that lived near Lightning's apartment complex were probably behind this kind of thing. They always liked to ruin events like this one.
Lightning hummed bitterly, curling the fist of the arm that was over Riku's shoulder. She knew he was hurting too, but if he was a Keyblade wielder, he should have been used to pain. She wasn't a warrior--just some girl who was really in shape and had been working on her battle skills on her own the past few years. She didn't have real experience yet.

Stupid kids. Riku kept his eyes forward as he concentrated with making each step. A sprain was nothing compared to past injuries, but he hadn't dealt with pain in a while, since there had been a rather large lack of action lately. He had to readjust. Suck it up, he told himself. Focus on her. He had to get Lightning to treatment first. She was in worse shape than he was.
Lightning looked down at her feet as they walked. "I hope they have water," she muttered, partially to herself and partially to Riku. She was actually feeling a little dehydrated now that they were out in the heat again. Stay calm and breathe. This really shouldn't be that big of a deal... She worked so hard to be strong, yet the human body was so frail. it wasn't fair.

Riku hummed, glancing over at Lightning before focusing forward once more. "I'm sure they do," he answered softly. He couldn't imagine a station not having water for the competitors. Speaking of, he wondered where the others were. Was there another trick the rebels pulled that tripped them up too?
"Wonder if anybody else knows whats happening to the competitors," she said, again to herself or Riku. She was referring to both the past and present. Were other things going on, like the bikers mysteriously crashing and Lightning and Riku tripping? Those guys who caused this were real losers if this was how they spent their Saturday.

Riku wasn't sure how to reply to that, so he hummed once again. He doubted this was the only trick those punks pulled, so he was sure the bike incident was caused by them too. He tightened his grip on Lightning's wrist slightly when he saw the medical station another hundred yards ahead. She could get her treatment soon, and he would quickly snag a potion to save the medics the trouble. He'd survive.
Lightning shut up after that, not that she really had anything else to say. She was just trying to distract herself, but it was failing anyway. The further they walked, the more she felt herself depending on Riku. Somehow, leaning on him and feeling his strength made her trust him more. He really wasn't a bad guy if he was willing to put himself through more pain to help a girl who had ticked him off before.

Riku's hands lingered where they were, securely holding Lightning by the wrist and waist. As they got closer to the medical stand, he didn't speed up, aware that they could only move so fast. As soon as a few of the medics saw them, they hurried out from their tent to assist them. He didn't say anything as they approached, though his grip did loosen on Lightning. The medics would probably want to take her themselves.
Lightning turned her head briefly to look over at Riku and thank him, but the medics were smothering them before she could get a word out. One of them tried to take her other arm and another looked ready to pick her up down at her legs. "I'm fine," she quickly said. "I can walk." No way was she going to let them carry her. This was humiliating enough as it was.

Riku released Lightning silently when the medics tended to her, and once one of them looked to him, he held up a hand. I'm good, he signaled, limping over to one of the chairs in the stand so he could sit down. He and Lightning would probably get potions to heal their wounds, which was perfectly fine with him. But he wasn't going to enter the race again; other competitors were heading up the path now. It was pretty much done with.
One of the medics helped Lightning over to a seat and then lifted her leg, setting her foot on another chair so that it was straight in front of her. Yeah, that looked pretty nasty, especially with some of the rocks still embedded in her skin. After the medic put on a pair of gloves, they went to work on picking out some of the rocks. Fun day this turned out to be, she thought, leaning her head back against the chair and shutting her eyes. Fun, fun day.

Riku accepted a potion from one of the medics, the liquid concealed in a white water bottle. "Thanks," he muttered, then gulping the substance down. His body instantly felt warm, and he looked over at his bloody shoulder as the cuts began to heal. The pain in his ankle disappeared as well. He set the bottle down and remained in his seat, allowing a medic to wipe the blood from his shoulder, as well as the dirt and grime. He watched one of the Islanders finish the race just down the path, applause instantly occurring and the announcer revealing the names of the finishers. He wouldn't be one of them, thanks to the punks who decided to play a few pranks.
When Lightning was handed a potion, she drank it and felt refreshed immediately. Even her thirst was gone. She looked past the medic who was wiping her leg with a rag, seeing people race by towards the finish. Serah would probably wonder where she was pretty soon. She glanced back at the male medic, who she recognized to be in her grade at school. Honestly, she was surprised he was wiping her leg so gently right now since she came across as so tough. What was his deal?

Riku smirked, though it was without humor. "Man, Sora's gonna get on my case about this," he assumed, leaning back in his seat. The medic finished cleaning him up, and he nodded to the lady in gratitude. Now that his injuries were gone, Sora was going to think Riku actually lost. Of course, that would be before Riku explained the situation. Sora knew about the rebels, and what trouble they could cause. He would understand, hopefully.
"No kidding," Sora said, appearing on the path in front of the medical station and seeing Riku with Lightning there. He heard what he just said, and now he was studying his best friend. "Need to relax in the shade, Riku?" he teased, though he was out of breath. He really was out of shape after not working out or fighting for so long.

Riku's smirk remained. "I got a little tripped up. Let's put it that way," he taunted in return. The young man placed his arms over his chest, lounging in his chair as he gazed at his best friend, who was clearly not in the best shape. "Looks to me like you could use some water." Riku motioned to a bin near his position. Sora could get a drink before they went back to their friends.
Sora followed Riku's motion, relieved that there was water nearby that he could take. And a seat along with it. He grabbed an already filled cup of water before plopping down in a seat between Riku and Lightning. "You got tripped up?" he asked, glancing over at Riku. "What, did you fall head over heels for Lightning?" He snickered at his own joke, while the girl in reference lifted a hand to her face and fought the urge to groan at it. Well, he thought it was funny.

Riku rolled his eyes, shaking his head. "Drink your water," he insisted. "I don't want to be the one carrying you back due to dehydration." Which was likely, given how much sweat Sora released and how little he had to drink.
"I'm fine," he said absently. "And since you're avoiding the topic, I think you did fall for Lightning," Sora said with the same cheeky grin, though he did take a drink of his water. Since Riku avoided the topic, he was going to pick on his friend just because he could. Riku really didn't fall for girls, though; they fell for him. The whole mysterious quiet factors that made Riku himself were attractive to half the girls on the island.
