Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Riku nodded slightly, lifting his hands and setting them on Lightning's knees. He gazed down at them for a moment. "I knew you wouldn't," he told her softly. I trust you...I can be real with you, just like I said. He shared his biggest secrets with her, and he trusted her not to tell. He knew she wouldn't, because she was too good to reveal such a personal story to the world.
Despite the fact that she had been so angry at him a few days ago, Lightning set her hands atop Riku's. Both of them had cold hands. She heard the phrase that said having cold hands meant you had a warm heart, but she knew the cold was caused by nature tonight. Her fingers wrapped around his hands a little bit, her eyes following the motion before she looked up at his eyes. She wasn't sure what else there was to say concerning his past. It was a lot to take in, but none of it made her consider ditching him as a friend.

Riku's fingers wrapped around Lightning's hands as well, and he looked up at her in the silence. Her cheeks were flushed from the cold air, but it made her more attractive in Riku's eyes. Beautiful, just like he thought in the past. He wondered what exactly they could do now... His reason for coming had just been finished.
Lightning looked away from Riku's eyes after a few moments, instead looking up at the sky. She exhaled a soft, visible breath at the beauty of it. The island was just far away enough from the mainland that the stars were very clear and bright. The skies were normally cloudy during the winter, but tonight. Tonight it was crystal clear.

Riku suddenly realized that when he tossed the Islands to the Darkness, he not only hurt his family and friends...he hurt Lightning too. That...scared him. She had only been thirteen at the time, and probably just as confused as everyone else. It made him tighten his grasp on her hands, his eyes going down to them. I'm sorry.
"Look up," Light said softly, unaware of Riku's thoughts. He had to look up and see how bright the stars were shining. She was sure he saw more magnificent things while he was in other worlds, despite the darkness of his experiences. Yet she was in awe of the stars in the sky tonight. Maybe he would be too. Or at least, he'd humor her.

Riku looked up at Lightning at the words, snapping out of his thoughts. But upon seeing where she was looking, he only briefly gazed at the stars. He could tell she was in awe of the sky's beauty, but his eyes returned to her. He looked at the stars for a long time in the past, but now he had something else to look at--someone. He found her much more interesting than the stars.
Lightning felt her lips turn up in a small smile as the starlight shone in her eyes. "I meant at the sky," she said softly. "Dork." Dork? Where did that come from? Nevertheless, it sort of fit the situation. She was obviously referring to the sky and he was just staring away at her. Didn't he have any sense of shyness at all?

Riku lifted an eyebrow at the name, not expecting it. "Dork, huh?" he asked. He gazed at her for a moment before releasing her hands, turning a little so he could look up at the sky like she said. "This dork has looked at the stars for the past twelve years. I've seen them enough." He remembered watching them when he was little, with Sora. But then again, it was interesting to look at them now and know that they weren't just stars; they were worlds.
Lightning rolled her eyes, but she was smiling softly in good nature. She should have guessed that Riku wouldn't be as enthused as she was, if this was even considered to be her when she was excited. Granted, she didn't smile over much, but she was smiling for two reasons tonight: the stars and Riku.

Riku sighed after a moment, seeing his breath for a moment. But he turned to look at Lightning, seeing the way she looked at the stars. He smirked. "Keep staring, googly-eyes," he teased. "I'll go get some firewood." He figured they would be staying for a while.
"Googly eyes?" Lightning repeated, looking down at Riku. "That doesn't even make sense." She smirked at him, teasing him for his bad choice of name. Besides, she was sure her eyes looked like they normally did, only different because they were in the dark. But...maybe there was a little innocence in her eyes too as she enjoyed one of the simplest things she could: the night sky.

Riku nudged Lightning at the taunt as he passed her, smiling before he started off. He stuffed his hands into his pockets to keep them warm for the time being, knowing the perfect place to find firewood. He would be back in a few minutes.
While Riku walked off, Lightning lowered herself off the tree. Sitting like that wasn't comfortable anymore. Having no urge to pace the small islet, she only walked forward a few steps before sitting herself down on the ground. Instead of looking at the stars, she looked at the island. It was big, but not as big as Bodhum. Yet the quaintness of it and its lights made her feel warm inside, which was a sharp contrast to how she felt on the outside.

Riku busied himself for the next few minutes with gathering the firewood, in which he found a good amount. There were always loose boards around the Islands, especially whenever some storms came around. He carried the wood in his arms as he walked across the bridge, seeing where Lightning was sitting. Behind her, in the middle of the islet, he set the wood down, starting to arrange it so they could get a good fire going. It would warm them up a bit, at least.
Lightning turned around halfway, letting her legs remain casually folded to the side as she looked at Riku. He had gotten a lot of wood, so it seemed like he planned on staying for a while. She was fine with that as long as the cold wasn't unbearable. The fact that they could see their breath made her wonder how long they would last out here.

Once the wood was set, Riku held his hand out to his side, summoning the Keyblade. It was in his grasp in a brief flash of light, and he pointed the tip at the wood. Riku mumbled the spell he needed, and a second later, flames devoured the wood. He leaned back, but kept the Keyblade in his grasp as he sat down in the sand. His eyes went to the weapon as he held it with both hands, resting it just above his lap. He was still worthy of the weapon...but how?
Lightning glanced at the fire, but then she looked to Riku. Seeing him with the Keyblade now was different. She knew what struggles he went through to be able to hold the weapon, and to hold it in this realm again. She saw a lot of awful things in her short life, but so did Riku. Maybe that was why she was so drawn to him: he saw terrible things (and did them) but redeemed himself. Perhaps that was what she wanted for herself.

Riku felt the heat from the fire against his face, but he also sensed a gaze on him. He lifted his eyes from his blade to the girl nearby, and he smiled faintly at her. Come here, he thought, motioning with his head for her to come join him by the fire. She would be warmer, and Riku wouldn't be alone.
Light smiled softly in amusement; she was nearly as close to the fire as Riku was, only on the opposite side of it. But she still picked herself up and walked around the fire to his side. She sat close to his side, feet on the ground as her knees were bent in front of her. The fire was still visible, but what she savored most about it was the warmth. It felt warmer here, but that was probably because Riku was here as well.

Riku continued to hold his Keyblade, and after gazing at Lightning for a moment, he looked back down at the weapon. It was designed a lot more differently than Sora's or the King's, his having its own unique design. The colors were deep red and blue, but he figured they fit his personality. But then again, a lot of the time, he thought back to his time in possession, since the colors reminded him of his attire at the time.
Lightning stared at the Keyblade, not seeing the coloring clearly because of the dim lighting but not caring. "Before, you wanted a Keyblade for power," she started gently. "Why is it important to you now?" Riku still pursued strength, but not necessarily power. Power corrupted. He seemed perfectly secure in who he was now, despite his past. How he turned out was truly incredible.

"...It helps me protect the things that matter," Riku answered softly, running a hand over the blade slowly. "I said the same thing when I was little, before my predecessor performed the ceremony with me. But I lost sight of it when I got greedy." But now he was trying his best at redemption, fighting for his friends and the safety of the worlds. Like he was meant to.
Lightning hummed, nodding faintly as well as she shifted her gaze to the fire. He had it to protect the things that mattered. Those things were probably friends, family, and homeland. But especially friends like Sora and Kairi. She'd probably never look at Sora the same way again, knowing that Riku left him for dead and he still was best friends with him. Everyone is incredible. How'd I get into this group?

Riku looked down at the weapon for another moment before he shifted his hold on it, looking over at Lightning. "Wanna hold it?" he asked softly. Lightning could hold it, at least for a minute; the Keyblade would go back to his hand automatically around that time. But if she was wanting to know how it felt to hold one, all she had to do was say yes.
