Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Point being that your heart is a victim to the Darkness if you don't stop hiding behind your shell," Riku said, putting it bluntly. "Been there, and it nearly killed me. I doubt that's a fate you rea

Light snapped out of her thoughts, looking back down at the Keyblade. The question surprised her, but curiosity compelled her to accept the offer. "Sure," she said, lifting one of her hands up closer to Riku so that she could get a grasp on it. How would it feel in her hand? Powerful? Exhilarating? Dark? She wasn't sure.

Riku smiled faintly before shifting his hold on the weapon a little more, leaving some space for Lightning's hand to grab the hilt near his larger one. Once she had a hold on it, he released the weapon, the warmth that usually radiated through him from the weapon fading once he let go. He doubted the Keyblade would be too heavy for Lightning. He remembered that Kairi had to use momentum to swing with one arm in the past.
Lightning looked at the weapon in her hand, easily able to hold it with one arm. It was about as heavy as her gunblade. But her gunblade didn't feel anything like this. The Keyblade didn't feel dark or frightening to hold because of Riku's past; in fact, it felt the opposite. Warm. Full of hope, dreams, and dedication. This wasn't a weapon meant to hurt good people. It was a weapon to protect the things that mattered.

Riku leaned back on his palms, looking at Lightning as she held his weapon. It was odd, seeing someone else hold it. But... "You've got about twenty seconds," he told her softly. Around then, the Keyblade would return to his grasp, but he doubted Lightning anticipated that. Her face would be priceless.
Lightning looked away from the Keyblade, making eye contact with Riku. "What do you mean?" she asked softly, her voice at that level because the air around them was so gentle despite the presence of a deadly weapon in her hand. Twenty seconds until what happened?

Riku held up a hand, pointer finger up to signal Lightning to wait. He counted back in his head, and eventually, he counted from three to one on his fingers. Once he reached one, he held his hand out, fingers spread so he could grasp his weapon. In a brief shimmer of light, the Keyblade left Lightning's hand, disappearing before returning to its rightful owner. With the weight of the blade in his hand, Riku smirked. Told you.
Light blinked hard in surprise, eyes travelling from her empty hand to Riku's occupied one. She hmphed with a small smirk, though she didn't really understand what happened. She thought Riku just called it back to himself, not that the Keyblade itself did something of its own free will.

"It knows its rightful place," Riku said, holding the Keyblade up and seeing it shine in the flickering light. He implied that the Keyblade came back to him without his order, which was a trick he didn't know he had until sometime after he held it. He glanced over at Lightning, his smirk remaining, but only slightly. Lightning still hadn't forgiven him for his mistake recently, so he couldn't be completely happy.
Lightning looked at the Keyblade for a few more seconds before looking back at the fire, humming in understanding. Well, as much understanding as she could muster. Riku implied that the Keyblade had a mind of its own. That was pretty hard for somebody like her to imagine, but whether she could imagine it or not, she knew it was possible. There was a lot of magic she didn't know about out there.

Riku gazed at the Keyblade for another moment before sending it away, then leaning back on his hands. "How did it feel?" he asked softly, referring to holding the Keyblade. He knew how it felt for him; it gave him courage, hope, determination, and strength. He was most comfortable when he held it, usually.
"Warm," Lightning said softly. That one word didn't seem to give it justice though, so she continued as she gazed gently at the fire. "It felt like you--I mean, having your attributes and values." Courage, loyalty, and hope. Those were three things that she really picked up. Of course the Keyblade was much more complicated than that, and so was Riku. But that was the best she could describe it.

"And those would be?" Riku asked, though he kept his gaze on the fire. He didn't want to pressure Lightning with his gaze, so he gave her at least that bit of peace. But he was curious. What attributes and values did he have, other than warmth?
Lightning looked over and gazed at Riku's eyes even if he wasn't looking over. "Bravery," she started. As she spoke, other feelings popped up and fit with what she experienced a few moments ago. "A sense of justice. Hope. Protection. And loyalty." Those were things that she saw in Riku, though the "loyalty" aspect of it was lacking lately when he kissed Ashe. How could she hold that against him though when he shared so much about himself tonight? He trusted her completely, and she trusted him. Just not around girls--that wouldn't be happening for a while.

Riku smiled a little, nodding. "...Good things to have," he admitted. Lightning saw all of that in him? Well, that was good, since that was who he strove to be. Especially since he got out of the Darkness. He wasn't perfect, that much he knew, but at least he had some good qualities.
Lightning hummed, gazing at Riku for a few seconds more before she looked to the fire. Unlike him, she didn't stare at people for excessive amounts of time. She pulled up her legs a bit, also sitting closer to Riku so that they were basically touching. He had to have figured out by now that she wasn't furious with him anymore.

Riku looked over at Lightning when she brushed against him, and his small smile remained, but this time in amusement. "Maybe I should have bought you a heavier coat," he said softly, lifting his arm and wrapping it around her shoulders. He didn't plan on doing it, necessarily, but it was a natural movement. And he was comfortable with it. But would she be?
Lightning smiled softly in amusement, keeping her gaze towards the fire as she leaned into Riku a little bit. "Then you wouldn't have an excuse to do this, now would you?" she asked quietly. She not only remained under Riku's arm, but her posture encouraged the contact. Not only was he warm, but he was also Riku. He was warm inside and out.

Riku's smile grew as he chuckled a little. "Guess not," he agreed. He wouldn't be able to do this then, or maybe he could have and she wouldn't have minded. Regardless, he was just happy with the fact that Lightning was allowing him the contact. It had only been a few days since their argument; he figured she would still be fuming.
"It's hard to be mad at you," Lightning started softly, "when you trust me so much." He just shared his life story with her, and the Keyblade. She wasn't stupid; she knew for certain that he hadn't done that with any other girl. She really was special to him after all.

Riku turned his head to look at the person close to him, his smile gone now. "I don't trust easily either," he said, knowing she was the same. He didn't know when he began to trust Lightning so much, but all that mattered was he did. And hopefully she trusted him, either now or in the future. He was still working on making things right again. This was a good start.
"I know," Light said with a small nod. Why you would choose to trust me is beyond me. Granted, she could keep a secret, but still. She was honored. When she tilted her head to the side a little more, the side of her head lightly touched Riku's cheek. She was surprised by it, but she didn't move. This was nice.

Riku closed his eyes at the contact, taking in a breath. He and Lightning had been close before, to the point where he nearly kissed her, but he never expected this. Her hair was against his cheek, and he could feel her warmth. It was...interesting, but he welcomed it.
Light shut her eyes when she felt a cool breeze come, and she could only imagine that she would have felt it worse if she weren't sitting right next to Riku and sharing his warmth. She never thought she'd want to be in this position, ever. She never thought anyone else would want to be here with her, either. Yet here they both were. Two cynical people who didn't trust easily were trusting each other almost completely. It was a connection like no other.

Riku kept his arm around Lightning, feeling the breeze against his skin. He hoped she was warmer now, and by her lack of shivering, she was. The fact that he helped with that--helped her feel better--made him feel pretty good about himself. He was doing something right for once, and it was just being himself.
The silence settled between Lightning and Riku for a little while, and that gave her time to think about something. "I feel like I should tell you about my past now," she said quietly, keeping her eyes shut. She felt like she should, because Riku shared so much with her. Of course he knew a lot of the darker parts of it; those were revealed in court when the lawyers were trying to prove how screwed up Lightning was and how Serah needed a better guardian. But Riku never heard the words from her; nobody did. And she didn't know if she was ready to tell them yet.
