Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

"Don't do it out of obligation," Riku said, opening his eyes as he gazed at one of the plants on the islet. "Besides, I took up a majority of story-time. We can always talk about it another night." Of course, that was only if Lightning wanted to. She didn't have to tell him anything; he just believed he needed to share an important part of him with her in order for her to understand him better, especially since they were in a rough spot. The more she got to know him, maybe the more she would come to forgive him. It helped that Riku wanted her to know, that way he didn't have any secrets to himself.
Lightning nodded softly, still feeling Riku's cheek against her head. She was relieved to hear that. Maybe there wasn't much of a rush because he knew a lot of it already: her dad passing away when she was seven, her mom suffering from depression and committing suicide when she was fifteen, and finding the body at that same age. She shivered, shutting her eyes more tightly. The memories were still painful.

Riku misinterpreted the shiver as one from the cold, and he ran his hand over Lightning's arm to try and warm her up. He was a little chilly, but he was doing better than Lightning, that much he could tell. He figured they wouldn't be out here much longer, considering the weather conditions.
Lightning opened her eyes, realizing that Riku thought she shivered from the cold just now. She'd let him believe that. She remained where she was, gazing at the fire that dimmed a little bit while they were here. "You should rekindle the fire," she stated quietly. It may have been cold outside, but she didn't want to leave this place. Even if the thoughts and discussions were a little sad, being in Riku's arms was a good place to be. She doubted it would happen again once they were home.

Riku pulled away a little, though his arm did stay around Lightning's shoulders. He lifted his hand and summoned the Keyblade, then calling to a low level Aero spell. The embers were shifted and the flames reignited, but Riku also used the tip of his Keyblade to poke at the firewood. The fire wouldn't last long, no matter how many times he rekindled it. But he was going to stay as long as he could. Once they reached the mainland, reality returned.
Lightning's head no longer leaned against Riku's cheek because of the movement, but oh well. She remained underneath his arm and content despite the weather. She wished that she could find some words to tell him how she felt, but her actions probably spoke more loudly than words every could.

Riku sent the Keyblade away after a minute, gazing at the fire as he continued to hold the girl under his arm. His hand moved over her arm absently, the young man hardly aware of the movement as he got lost in his thoughts, wondering how the paparazzi were going to react if they saw them together. They took Riku's bike to the docks, after all.
Light lifted her gaze from the fire to the island across from them. Now that the sky was even darker, the lights were even more noticeable. She knew why this whole place was so important to Riku; it was designed like paradise. Warm temperatures most of the year, beautiful sunsets and a beach...This was a nice place to be. If only the drama would disappear so she could enjoy it more.

Riku turned his head to look at Lightning, but then he saw her focusing on something else. Following her gaze, he noticed that she was looking at the mainland, and all of the lights. It was a pretty sight, that was for sure. When he and his friends managed to stay past the sunset, he would admire the decorations. But now, he didn't look at them as much, simply because he didn't have the time.
After a few moments, Lightning tilted her head back and looked up at the stars again. She could see smoke from the fire, but that couldn't dim the brightness of the stars. She couldn't explain why she liked looking at them so much. She guessed....they just made her problems here seem really small and insignificant.

Riku stared at the fire, his eyebrows furrowing when the breeze pushed the smoke toward him and Lightning. But he ignored it, instead asking a question that had been bothering him for a while. "...What're we gonna tell the press?" he asked the person beside him. The press nearly followed them to the docks, but Riku managed to lose them. He couldn't make the same promise when they got back to the mainland. The press would want to know what they were doing together.
Lightning shrugged softly without removing her gaze from the stars. "Nothing," she declared. They wouldn't tell the press anything. It was none of their business what happened here tonight. It was none of their business what Riku and Lightning were either, whether they were a fake couple, friends, or a real, unspoken couple. They'd make their speculations, but they could deal with those when the time came.

"...They think we're through, or at least on the rocks," Riku said, looking over at the person beside him. He couldn't exactly hold Lightning's hand in public, and he doubted she wanted that just yet. She was still mad at him; Riku wasn't an idiot, so of course he knew that. He wouldn't push it.
"They can think what they want," Lightning said, lowering her gaze to the fire. "We'll do whatever we want and deal with the consequences later." Saying things like this definitely made her feel and sound more like her old self again, who didn't care what others thought. There wasn't a plan to handle this type of thing, so they'd formulate a plan as they went along.

Riku gazed at Lightning for a moment, just studying her. She was being stubborn again, and that was the person he first met, not the girl who cried because of what he did. That memory burned Riku's mind, the young man upset that he caused her so much hurt. He couldn't believe he did such a thing.
Sensing the gaze on her change, Lightning looked over and met Riku's stare. "What?" she asked more softly upon seeing the look in his eyes. It didn't seem like he was thinking about the press at all anymore; it looked like his mind wandered to another unpleasant topic.

Riku met Lightning's eyes, and he briefly gazed at her before turning his head. "Nothing," he said softly. He took his arm back from around Lightning's shoulders and started to his feet. "We should get back." It was getting late, and a little too cold for comfort.
Lightning remained on the ground, feeling the warmth leave her as she looked up at Riku. "That look wasn't nothing," she declared softly. It was a lot more than that. He looked sad just now, and if it wasn't too much to ask, she wanted to know why that was. He shared so much with her tonight; why not this too?

Riku dusted himself off a little, summoning his blade to him. He didn't really know what to say to that, so he didn't say anything. Instead, he mumbled "Freeze" and sent a cooling spell on the fire. It doused it immediately, and as soon as that was done, Riku summoned his weapon away and bent down to grab the wood. He wordlessly gathered it and started toward the edge of the islet near the beach. It was then that he tossed it, hearing it hit the ground in the silence.
Lightning sighed, glancing at the smolders of the fire. "Don't make me sit here and wait you out," she said softly. She didn't want to be extremely stubborn, and she didn't want this to be a big deal. Why couldn't he just tell her why he looked so sad a moment ago?

Riku turned around, looking at Lightning in the darkness. "I don't really want to talk about it," he admitted lowly. It was a memory he didn't want to discuss, and he was sure Lightning wouldn't either. It involved her, after all.
Light looked over at Riku, slowly pushing herself up off the ground. "After all you shared, you're afraid of this?" she asked softly. It didn't make much sense to her, because what could have been worse than what he told her about earlier? He invited Darkness to the world, nearly killed his best friend, and took the form of his demon. What was so terrible that he couldn't say now?

"I'm not afraid of it," Riku said softly, looking away. "Not really. It's just...not a good thing to discuss right now." Things were going well, and he didn't want this discussion to ruin it. After everything went the way it was meant to, and he shared his secrets and she accepted them, this conversation couldn't go any further.
Lightning took that in, judging that Riku sincerely believed that he spoke the truth. "Alright then," she said softly. "Let's head back." She'd let the topic drop. And besides, it really was cold. She was shivering softly again now that there was no fire and no Riku right by her to keep her warm.

Riku nodded and turned around, starting toward the bridge and knowing Lightning would follow. Once she was close, he would keep her warm. It got breezy on the beach, and he wanted her close anyway.
