Rude Awakening (1x1 with Peanut)

Posted

As some of you may know, Peanut and I are crazy about Roleplaying, and it's clear, since this is the second one on this site that belongs to us. And we aren't even done with the first one! Regardless, that won't stop us from starting this new roleplay, Rude Awakening!

Kinda dark and mysterious title, eh?

As stated in the title, this RP is one on one, no exceptions. Please refrain from posting in the RP. Instead, follow us on this new journey!

Peanut, my amazing friend, let's begin!

Lightning followed behind Riku, and it wasn't until after they exited the shack that she was by his side. Her hands were stuffed deep in her pockets, but it was hard to fight against the cold now that it was so dark and the temperature dropped drastically. She couldn't wait to get back inside a heated building.

Just as Riku predicted, the wind picked up near the shore. He instinctively wrapped an arm around Lightning's shoulders, bringing her close to try and protect her from the cold. He walked toward the dock, preparing for a boat ride of silence.
When Lightning and Riku made it back to the mainland, there were no reporters to be found. Same for when they arrived at Riku's apartment building. Apparently they weren't worth the press standing in the cold. She couldn't have been more relieved. Once they were inside Riku's apartment, Lightning didn't even bother shedding her coat or shoes. She walked over to the couch and laid down across it, sighing at the warmth. Much better.

"Planning on crashing there tonight?" Riku asked, taking off his coat and draping it over a chair. He fell asleep on the couch a couple times, and it wasn't nearly as comfortable as a bed. And Riku was pretty sure the guest bed was nice, since he didn't waste money on bad furniture.
"Maybe," Lightning muttered into the cushion. She buried her hands under the pillow at the end of the couch, her hands like ice. Why on earth had she and Riku been outside for so long, and why didn't she think to bring gloves? That motorcycle ride had been awful just because of the cold.

Riku rolled his eyes, but otherwise passed the girl on the couch. "Enjoy that," he said. "I'll be in my bed." His mattress was like heaven on some nights, and it would be nice and warm tonight. He couldn't wait to get to his room...and evade any negative thoughts.
"Fine," Lightning murmured. She didn't care if Riku went to bed now; it wasn't like she left him any room on the couch. If her eyes were open, she would have blinked at the realization. Of course she didn't save him room on the couch, because they never laid down together. Yet the idea of laying together on the couch...It was appealing.

Riku picked up the pillow, pulling it from underneath Lightning's head before dropping it playfully on her face. That was his goodnight. He then continued on, heading toward the hallway where he could dress down and climb into bed.
Since Lightning was face down, the pillow hit the back of her head. "Not cool," she muttered without moving. But she didn't react to it otherwise; she didn't even move to grab the pillow again. She had been joking in saying that she would sleep here for the night, but she felt her body sinking into the couch more and she was losing her will to move. Maybe she would rest here after all.

Riku chuckled a little at the muffled response, but he continued on toward his room. Once in, he shut the door behind him and started shedding his clothes, ready to sleep. Today had been a good day, or the night had been nice. Better than nice, actually. He just couldn't wait for the next opportunity he got to spend with Lightning, on good terms.
Within a few minutes, Lightning was out. The only thing that she did before she fell asleep was turn her head towards the back of the couch so that she could breathe more easily. The shoes, coat, and other attire remained on. It wasn't a big deal for now, and maybe it wouldn't be for the rest of the night. All that she knew was that she was asleep and alright with the position for now. That was all that mattered.

A few hours later

Namine heard the music around her, a soft melody that she was using to help her draw. She and Roxas were in a different room than the other students, even though their music was loud enough to be heard beyond the closed door. It was the end of the semester, finals were over, and everyone was celebrating. While everyone else was drinking and dancing, Namine and Roxas were doing what they loved most--their art. She was content with it, sitting at a table near the piano as Roxas played. They had gotten closer since his last recital; ever since, they had been hanging out a lot more. It was nice, to have another friend in her life. But the weather wasn't the same way, at least to Namine. She tugged at her long-sleeved shirt, pulling the sleeves down over her hands a little more as she halted in her drawing. It had gotten chilly over the past hour. Did Roxas notice?

Roxas's fingers danced over the keys, softly and slowly. He wasn't really paying attention to it anymore; he was thinking that it was probably time to get home. He glanced at a clock on the wall and blinked in surprise when it was a little past midnight. "Wow," he said, taking his hands away from the piano and lightly rubbing his hands together because of the room being a little cool. "It's late. We should get going." The other party-goers would probably be here for a while, but that was their decision.

Namine looked up from her drawing, pencil in hand as she gazed at Roxas. She saw the look on his face before glancing at the clock. "Oh!" she said, blinking. How had they forgotten the time so easily? She started to put her pencils away, wondering when it got so late. Time had gone by so quickly.
Roxas covered the piano keys and then stood up, walking over to where he had his jacket. Wow, it was actually cool in here. He had noticed it before but didn't dwell on the thought. "I'll walk you home," he immediately said, shrugging his coat on. It was dark and cold out, and he didn't want Namine meeting up with anyone unpleasant. She wasn't a love interest or girlfriend, but she was his friend.

Namine rose from her seat and started to pull on her coat, tying the belt as she looked up at Roxas. "Thank you," she said with a small smile. She was grateful for the offer, even if she didn't live that far. She felt...safe, with Roxas around. Him walking her home this late provided that sense of security as well.
Roxas smiled softly and nodded back to Namine in silence, though silence didn't fill the room for long. He heard a scream from down the hall. His bright blue eyes widened immediately. Something was wrong. He only shot Namine a brief glance before hurrying to the door and down the hall to see what was going on. It hadn't come from the direction of the party...

Namine's eyes widened at the scream as well, but she froze at the shock. She watched Roxas run toward the door, and she took a step forward. "Roxas!" she called. Where was he going? She hurried toward the door as well, stopping near it and watching her friend run down the hall. What was going on?
Roxas stopped by the brunette girl, glancing at her and then at what she was staring at. Once he saw it, he didn't bother asking her what she screamed at. She was staring at the door--a mostly glass door that they could see through. And all he could see was white. That's tonight, isn't it? The night it always snows... It looked like Santa sent some extra snow this year, because there was no way they could get out with all the snow packed against it. "The wind pushed the snow against this door," he thought aloud, trying to reassure himself. "Not all the doors can be like this." There had to be a way out.

Namine started down the hall, her pace a little calmer compared to Roxas's. She saw the girl he was by, who looked frightened. But why? "Roxas?" she called softly. What was going on? She continued down the hall, not able to see the door just yet.
Roxas glanced at Namine before starting towards her, trusting the other girl would follow. "We got a snowstorm," he said calmly. "The wind blew it all up against that door, so we'll have to look for another one to leave through." They weren't snowed in completely. That simply wasn't possible. Destiny Islands got snow every year around this date (as a gift from Santa, who owed Sora big time for his service in the past) but the snow was never bad enough to lock people into buildings. This year wasn't any exception.

Namine's eyebrows furrowed slightly at the news. Snowstorm? She looked at Roxas, no longer walking as she gave him a look he should easily been able to interpet. Santa? she silently asked. She knew he graced them with snow every year, but...maybe he gave them too much this time around.
Roxas nodded slightly to Namine before glancing back at the other girl who was clearly shaken. Since he was a good guy, he went with his first instinct of comforting her. "Everything fine," he repeated to her, though he looked back to Namine as he started forward again. "Let's go check for another door to use." It would take a few minutes, but they didn't have much other choice but to search.

Namine knew there were a lot of doors on this wing, so she decided she would split from Roxas in order to help. "I'll go check the door on the west side," she said, starting to walk with him when he was near her. She would just have to take a separate turn in the hall. If they did that, they could get the search done more quickly.
"Okay," Roxas said with another small nod. "We'll meet back here when we've checked everything." Both of them would probably come back with news about which door they could use. As long as they had one that was cleared, he would be happy. Just in case the doors weren't clear though, he planned on checking windows as well. He started in the opposite direction of Namine, stuffing his hands in his coat pockets. The temperature really was dropping.
