Anyways, this is about two brothers whose family is killed by the zombies, and they become separated and must survive in a world plagued with the undead. I figured I should try writing something to get myself thinking.
Anyways, read and tell me what you think? And to be honest, I'm not good at writing beginnings, so please keep that in mind. ^^
Summary: Josiah and Aaron are brothers. Bound by blood, these two always did everything together. That is, until an attack on their home and the deaths of their parents separate them. They had to survive on their own against a war with the dead. With no way to contact each other, they are cut off from their previous lives and thrust into a new one, in which every minute is a fight for survival.
Chapter One: Separation
“Come on, you're better than that!” Josiah said. Aaron sighed and put down the controller. “If you think so.” Josiah gave a lighthearted laugh when their sister, Seneca came to the door. “Josie, mom wants you downstairs.” She spat. “But my name's Josiah!” He said. She gave a feminine 'Hmph' and walked away. “Jeez, she really must hate you.” Aaron noted. “Yeah, yeah, whatever.” Josiah stood up and walked out the door, Aaron pressing the power button on the Xbox and following. Josiah thudded unceremoniously down the stairs, while Aaron went the other way and opened the cupboard looking for some food to eat.
Seneca sat at the table. “So what's for dinner.” Aaron turned and gave her an 'are you firetrucking kidding me' look. “Since when was it my job to feed you?” He asked. “Don't know, don't care.” He sighed. “How about macaroni and cheese?” He asked. She shook her head. “Ramen noodles?” She gave it a little thought, and shook her head again. “How about human flesh?” Aaron gave a chuckle, “Maybe. Depending on how I feel.”
Josiah came up the steps, his face expressionless. “So, how did it go?” Aaron asked. “Well, it went okay. But then dad called and...” Seneca interrupted him. “Don't tell us.” Their father, Brad Colburn, had dedicated his life to medical research, which had caused bitterness between him and their mother. He decided to distance himself from his family as a result, abandoning her with Josiah, Aaron and Seneca, who were, respectively, 17, 18, and 20. Instead of moving out, they decided to stay and support their mother, which Seneca would've long ago.
Josiah walked out of the kitchen and into the living room, slumping into the couch. “So. Dinner.” Seneca said. “I'm working on it.” Aaron replied. He pulled out a hamburger helper and Seneca groaned. “Hey, I like hamburger helper. Make some ramen noodles if you don't like it.” He said, tossing a pack of ramen noodles at her. She caught them and threw them at Josiah in the living room, who sighed and tossed them back. “You aren't going to get your way, Seneca.” He said. She sighed and opened the package, walking over to the dinnerware cupboard.
She spilled the contents into a bowl and pulled out the seasoning packet. “So, Josie, what did mom have to say to you?” Aaron heard Josiah shift a bit on the couch. “Nothing, really. She was talking about if we wanted to move out, she could fish some retirement money out, but she isn't that old yet. She'd just get declined. I tried to tell her that but dad called and, well, things went downhill.”
“Oh.” She responded, filling the bowl with water and putting it in the microwave, as Aaron greased the pot he was using. After a few minutes, the microwave beeped and she took her meal to her room. Josiah walked in to the kitchen, patting his brother on the shoulder. “Hey, you think I could have some of that when you're done cooking it?” Aaron nodded. “I wouldn't be able to finish it on my own anyway. I was hoping you'd-” A high pitch scream, and the sound of breaking glass filled the house. “Seneca?” Josiah said. Aaron walked away from the pot, which fell and spilled all its' contents.
Josiah and Aaron rushed to the end of the hall, and Josiah gripped the doorknob. “Seneca?” He said, his mind racing. Aaron nodded and Josiah opened the door.
Broken glass littered the floor. There was a bit of blood, which Josiah assumed was from a piece of the broken glass, and that she had been forcefully dragged out. “What the firetruck...?” Josiah said slowly. “Heeeeeellllp!” They heard Seneca called. “Aaron, go tell mom what happened and to call the cops, I'll go see what's going on.” Aaron nodded and Josiah carefully climbed out of the window. “Seneca!” He yelled, looking around. She was being wrestled to the ground in the middle of the street by someone who looked as if he was trying to... bite her. “This has to be a prank.” He muttered, shaking his head. “Seneca, this isn't funny.” He said, walking towards them. “JOSIAH! HELP!” Josiah was taken aback. The was the first time she called him by his real name. Okay, so it probably isn't a joke. He thought. He ran towards them just as the man succeeded in his goal. He sank his teeth in her neck, and she cried out in pain.
He stopped in front of them and grabbed at the man, trying to yank him off. “Mraaaagh!” It said in retaliation. “Wh-what...?” He tried again, this time succeeding. He threw the thing aside, and knelt next to his sister. “Seneca!” He said, shaking her. Blood was gushing from her neck, causing Josiah to breathe heavily. “Seneca...” He said warmly. “Josiah...” She whispered, and stopped breathing. Josiah's heart stopped. He heard a growl behind him and stood up slowly. He turned around to see the person walking towards him. “What are you...?” He asked it, and there was no reply. It lunged towards him, catching him by surprise.
He caught his hand and pushed the zombie back, and ran back towards the house, to see Aaron leaving it. “Mom... she...” He said, slowly. “What happened?” He asked. “There was a zombie... eating her... I don't know how it got in...” He sobbed, and sunk to the ground. Josiah's heart nearly burst. And if they were zombies with such characteristics, there were more of them, converging on their location. Josiah rubbed his eyes. Not now... I'm not going to cry... He thought, but to no avail. His eyes watered, his arms trembled. “We need to go...” He said. He grabbed Aaron's wrist and practically dragged him into the street.
There was a loud honk, and a truck came barreling down the street, its' engine smoking and dented terribly. “Look out!” Aaron said, pushing Josiah out of the way. The truck careened to the side, hitting a house on either side.
Couldn't think of a good name x_x
