Guilty Crown Review (WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)

Posted

This is the first time i have posted in a couple of months and i'm happy to be back in such a great community. As my first post back, I will be reviewing the highly proclaimed anime Guilty Crown as i have just finished watching it. There will be 3 categories and an overall verdict.

THE STORY

THE ANIMATION

THE CHARACTERS

The Story - The story is a generic one at that. An apocalypse has happened which is spreading the "Apocalypse Virus" after an event called Lost Christmas. The story follows a 17 year old high school student by the name of Shu Ouma. Shu has a love for another main character Inori Yuzuriha who is a renounced Internet musical sensation and a member of the Terrorist group Funeral Parlor. After the first time Shu and Inori meet, GHQ Soldiers (Japanese Goverment Military) Show up and take Inori away with Shu cowering away. A few hours pass and Shu goes out to find Inori in the middle of a warzone between Funeral Parlor and GHQ, only to save Inori while breaking a small vial containing "The Void Genome" Which allows the user to manifest people's hearts into their feelings, Inori then asks Shu to use her void which is a giant sword where Shu then destroys the rest of the GHQ soldiers and Enlaves. (I will leave the rest of the story to you guys.) I genuinely loved this story, the story is a gripping one, where once i seen the first few episodes, it was hard to leave the computer and stop watching because of it's story. I am a sensitive guy and i cried quite a lot during this anime, it is a tear jerker to say the least, it's not wrong for you to cry however if you get wrapped to characters, you will de-hydrate yourself with the tears. Overall i will give the story an 8/10.

The Animation - The animation is of a very high quality. This anime is an Action/Romance, being Action it will have a lot of set pieced scenes, i am not animator but i enjoyed the set pieces as they are very flashy and well pieced together. That is all i can really say about the animation. Overall i will give the animation a 9/10.

The Characters - The characters is one of the best assets of this anime as the anime is highly character driven. The main characters Shu, Inori and Gai are 3 of the most heavily driven characters but that is obvious as they are well... the main characters. Shu starts off as a quiet, shy boy who is afraid to speak his mind and especially to speak to his love interest Inori however he slowly develops throughout the series to become more Brave (And a bit of a douche around episode 15-18) and courageous boy who will do anything to save his friends. Inori is a man-made re-incarnation of Shu's older sister Mana, Inori is quiet but is cute, kind hearted and shy but as a man-made puppet (Like Xion) does not know if her feelings are real and asks Gai in one of the episodes that she has a feeling for Shu but she doesn't know if it is love or not, Oh, i forgot to mention, Inori is a complete badass too, Inori starts to develop real feelings for Shu, love, pain and desire to be with Shu always. Gai is the leader of Funeral Parlor however he forces Shu to join Funeral Parlor because Gai wanted the Void Genome for himself and Funeral Parlor needs the extensive power of the Voids, Gai is a self-righteous jerk when he is with Funeral Parlor until he sees the other side of Shu, the brave side as Shu risks his life in order to save Gai when destroying an Orbital Death cannon called the Leukocyte, Gai however near the end of the series turns to the wrong side and gains power of the Void Genome after cutting Shu's arm off, he is corrupted with power and is the last fight for Shu, Shu looked up to Gai but Gai reveals that he looked up to Shu at the end of the series. The side characters like Ayase Shinomiya, Funeral Parlor's Enlave user and Shu's best friend Yahiro Samukawa. Overall i will give the characters a whopping 10/10.

OVERALL VERDICT - I very much so enjoyed this anime, it was my first anime watched since the Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Series back in 2006. It was a very high step up from Pokemon which is nothing but mediocre compared to Guilty Crown. It was a tear jerker but i am a sensitive, soft person which got at me really easily which i liked, i got too wrapped to Shu and Inori which was a mistake as at the end of a the series a very sad moment between them happen. All the Categories have lead me to a Overall Verdict of

9.5/10!! You can buy the Guilty Crown Series if you wish however there are plenty of sites where you can stream it for free, it is a great anime to add to your collection if that is the case.

I Hope you enjoyed my little review of Guilty Crown, i might do these in the future, if i do, the next anime i will probably review Persona 4 The Golden Animation.
