Ok so I've been playing FF14 on my ps3 and I've now reached maximum badassery. (NNames Alarick Zorgon, Paladin lvl 30 btw) and I'm getting a new laptop soon and have decided to get FF14 for the laptop. Is there a way for me to transfer all my character data over to my new installed game? Do I just need my account info or do I have to start all over with a new character?

As far as I understand, as long as you have a copy of the PC version tied to your Square Enix account (via the MogStation) you can use your characters across both platforms. Buying the PC version won't render your PS3 version useless by any means. Your PS3 version shall only become obsolete if you use their upgrade option to upgrade to the PS4 version (which I have done) and even then your characters get transferred over with it.

Now that I think about it, your characters I believe appear on your account. So as long as you play on the server they were created on then both the PS3 and PC version should have access to that character provided you haven't deleted them. :D

Here's the actual wording from SE in their FFXIV:ARR FAQ:

In order to use your characters on multiple platforms, you must tie your existing service account to the PlayStation®3 or PlayStation®4 version upon launching the game on that platform for the first time. Similarly, customers who own a copy of FFXIV for the PlayStation®3 or PlayStation®4 and wish to use their account on the Windows® version will need to purchase a copy of the Windows® version. However, please note that your account will only be able to log in to one platform at a time.
