I thought I would try my first real top 10 here, and I have been playing a lot of Smash Bros Wii U recently, so I thought that I should share my list of least favorite new to the series stages. Not to say that these stages can't have fun times on them, but they are just the least impressive. Anyways, on to the list!
10.) Wrecking Crew (stage) : This stage isn't a bad stage at all, and in fact can have a fun time playing on, the only thing that puts it on this list is the fact that it feels a bit plain. While it is nice to see an updated version of Wrecking Crew for modern times, the city in the background is lacking in life. The city is almost the same shade of color and there aren't that many things that make it feel alive. Plus the city doesn't exactly match the stage portion of that makes the whole thing what it is. Maybe they should have made it alive or just left it 8-bit style? But it's nothing compared to the others on the list!
9.) Windy Hill Zone : OMG!!!! ITS SONIC LOST WORLD!!!!!!!..... How many people actually have said that since its launch? Not only is the game one of the most forgetful experiences in gaming history, it is also the first one that Nintendo really got messed up in, as they even tried to help Sonic be promoted. But aside from that, the fact that makes the stage on this list is not only because it is based on one of my least favorite Sonic experiences, but that it also is not sized correctly. Sure, the grass terrain is fine, but the big windmill and the bumpers puts it on this list. The Windmill is too big, in my opinion, that it is easy to avoid death on but also get caught on and lifted off the stage. And the bumpers, or springs, are not to the greatest either with the whole being able to move on their own thing and be able to put themselves where they won't help the player get back on stage. I mean what is the point of having something like springs if they mainly hurt than help. Moving on!
8.) Pac-Land : You heard me Pac-Land, that game that no one outside of Namco fans ever heard of until Smash Bros. While it is nice that they gave Pac-Man an old school chance, and tried to get fans of Smash Bros to realize what game Pac-Land was, it didn't come out as the best stage ever. But what makes it so bad? Well, it's not the style or the scale of the stage, it is the fact that it is an auto scrolling stage. The stage moves kind of quickly that if you don't move you will die. The whole point of Smash is to fight your characters off the screen, not to be killed by the stage itself. While I like the whole old school vibe and the way that the stage looks bright and colorful, unlike something else already on the list!, the auto scroll just kills it for me. But after putting the characters and stages on random for the past week, I have grown to like the stage a bit better to make it lower on this list. So maybe it will change from this list in the future.
7.) The Great Cave Offensive : One of the most memorable plots of Kirby history, the Great Cave Offensive was released as part of Kirby Super Star on the Super Nintendo. This game mode was big and offered a lot of things that made it special, so how does that make it on this list? Well it's not because the size is too large, or the style isn't colorful and different. No, it's because it's a "Highway To The Danger Zone"! That is what this stage is made of. Once you have gain more than 100% of damage, you better run to safety cause if you even slightly touch a danger zone, you will die! This stage even got bad enough with the danger zones that when I went to a Kenny Loggins concert with my mother, I had to prevent myself from laughing too hard when he started singing Danger Zone because all I could think of was The Great Cave Offensive. To be honest, if the damage requirement to die in the danger zone was changed from 100% to 200% or even 150%, then I think this stage would make it to one of my favorite stages of Smash Bros history, but right now, it's not helping itself.
6.) Gaur Plain: Yes, that's right, I dislike this Xenoblade stage, but hear me out. You see, I actually really love this stage on the 3DS version, but it's transfer to Wii U made me dislike one certain element that was added to it, Metal Face. Metal Face actually kills this stage, and I mean that literally. It comes into the stage and sometimes actually takes a laser beam and kills the stage to break it. What is the point in this feature? The stage is perfectly fine the way it is Sakurai, why make it break? Sure, I can take that the stage is bigger in the Wii U version, and I can even defeat Metal Face in a matter of seconds, but destroying the stage to the point where you can not even prevent it from breaking is its big downfall. Metal Face isn't that bad of a stage boss, but I just don't approve of his actions. That's what makes the stage get number 6 on my list!
5.) Suzaku Castle : Street Fighter, one series that I tried to play in the arcades, before they all died in my home area, one that I tried to give another chance of the PS3 when it was a PS Plus game. The series looked fine, and seemed to be really cool, but one thing actually stood as a problem for the series, no one ever tried telling me how to play the game! I mean how exactly am I supposed to do these combo attacks? And what do you mean input multiple controls at the same time? If I am going to play a fighting game, I guess I am going to Smash where the buttons make sense, except what's that? Ryu is coming to Smash?!? How awesome can that be!!!?!?!? What, what do you mean I need to input multiple controls??? Didn't I just say I didn't want to do that!?! But cool, Ryu comes with a stage, that's awesome, let's check that out.
Suzaku Castle ends being a big huge mess. The stage is literally messing from the stage! Where the stage should be, there is a walk off to the stage. What is the point of having the stage be cut in half and the part that is playable is the short end of the stick. With two small platforms and a walk off main platform, this stage is really weak, and sort of unplayable unless you make it into a Final Destination clone. I actually thought Ryu in Smash would be awesome, but it has turned out to be my least favorite newcomer in the sea of newcomers, but what makes this only number five on my list? Well let's move on!
4.) Wily Castle : You had one job Nintendo, one job, make the entire Mega Man in Smash thing be super cool! But you gave us something that nobody asked for. The Yellow Devil! I understand Sakurai, you needed to find a way to not make the entire stage feel like Final Destination. And I get that Wily Castle is the memorable location in all of Mega Man history, but why add something that destories this stage for everybody? Sure Yellow Devil doesn't destroy the stage like Metal Face, but the stage is already small enough as it is, and adding a big yellow monster to the battle of four fighters is the ultimate thing that makes this stage unplayable. But that isn't the only boss I can think of that kills the party!
3.) Pyrosphere: Ridley, poor poor Ridley. I feel sorry for you, you big oversized dragon bird winged monster thing. As many of you know, Ridley is that big purple beast from Metroid that is always giving Samus problems. But what happens when he gets "Too big for Smash"? He gets put as the least favorite Boss of all of Smash Bros history, yes I would even want Tabuu back before dealing with Ridley all day long. I mean this thing gets rejected so the next best thing is to put him in Smash Bros anyways? Could they possibly not be anymore blind? They said he was too big yet he gets in anyways? And you know what happens when he gets in Smash Bros, he releases Hell on anyone who gets in his way. This monster doesn't stop from his goal of destroying you, and adding that he can even evolve into Meta Ridley is just adding more to why this is the least favorite boss of Smash Bros! I truly loved him more in the Subspace Emissary than in the Pyrosphere stage. I think it would have been better if he actually did become a fighter in Smash Bros!
2.) Palutena's Temple: I understand that this stage was built on the idea of eight player Smash, but what is it doing being a full sized stage on the classic Smash battles with up to four players? I mean why make a gaint stage that takes a long time to battle on with only four players? If we are going to have an Uprising stage on the Wii U, can't we just put the 3DS stage on the Wii U? I mean that stage is at least the perfect size and would make for perfect four player matches. Because this stage is so big, the only other choices are to either put this stage on Omega form or use the breakable mess that was Skyworld as a Kid Icarus stage. And the thing about Skyworld was that even the character that came from Kid Icarus, Pit, had the most difficulty with the stage as Pit could hardly recover back in Brawl. I think we just need some DLC to fix this issue of Kid Icarus.
1.) Miiverse: But the absolute worst mess of Smash Bros Wii U is Miiverse. You know Miiverse as Nintendo's own social media network. It's the thing that allows people to post comments, in game results, and even draw things to post. But that last part is what kills this Battlefield knockoff. The background of Miiverse (stage) is the worst possible place I have ever seen in a Smash Bros game. People draw things to be in the background, and this also means they can write things as well, and there is hardly any censorship on Miiverse, so that turns this peaceful looking stage into a completely disgusting place because people have dirty minds. There should really be some censorship for this stage, but if you don't want to take my word for it, just go to Google.com and research it yourself! You will see my point loud and clear.
And with that, I have revealed my least favorite new stages in Smash Bros Wii U! This is my first Top 10 list, and it won't be my last, so let me know in the comments what you guys would like me to cover next and I might do it! Thanks for listening to an old man lecture! You have been a great audience! Good Night!!!!!!!!
