At least with those games there was something to consume while waiting for the next title, and subsequently the HD collections too. Now there's just nothing...

Something that also needs to be considered in those situations is that the product we end up with is not the same product that got worked on during that time. For example KH3 was like a year into production when they decided to change engine, which took another year to fix so a 6 dev cycle is more like 4 years on the actual game with 2 wasted years at the start. Similarly, Prime 4 started out with a different developer before being switched by Nintendo so half of that dev time relates to a game that does not exist

It's......missing But seriously, it's been archived I think

Persona 5 first got revealed/teased in like 2013 so it had its own troubles during development as well. I feel like the plan after 5 was always to have a larger gap to focus on other stuff (Metaphor, P3 remake) so it's really only now that it feels like Atlus might be in a position where they are looking to focus more heavily on developing 6

That's pretty much it, I'm jonesing for some KH and there's not any other type of game that hits that spot for me

I sang in the choir for a Distant Worlds concert 10+ years ago - was really fun.

Given that the last mainline entry in the series was in 2019, I don't think it's too much to be asking when they're gonna reveal the release window for the next one

It's definitely on the way to becoming the norm

Corporate overlords tbh
-
It was kind of silly to be doing that anyway

Currently I think it's a tossup between FF7 Part 3 and KH4 Then I would have guessed Dragon Quest 12 then the next mainline entry But nothing Square does recently makes much sense to me so who know
-
2028 at the earliest for Dragon Quest 12, I think

Glad that I didn't watch live, cos my impression of what I've read and seen makes it look like the main show was very driven by corporation/business deals

Gonna be that guy, but if Roxas is being aged as 1 since it goes by when he came into existence as a Nobody wouldn't the same logic be applied to Axel, which would make him no older than 10 or something?
