The way he's saying it, it doesn't sound like he means replacing humans or generative ai, typically the 2 big problems for people. If that's true and he's talking about ai as a tool to enhance work (like how calculators made it easier to perform calculations), then I don't think there should be much of a problem. Though the next question is why they wouldn't have been using that sort of thing already (assuming it's the kind of ai I'm suggesting)
