The Story:

[align=center]

17 years in the past, the protection of the Galaxy rested on the shoulders of two Keyblade wielders, Kane Ettas, and Yui Cross.

It wasn't easy, having the burden of protecting a universe... but they managed to do it, all the while preserving the love they had for each other.

But... things take a turn for the worse when Yui becomes pregnant, something neither of them had planned... Yui has to take a break, and leave the side of her fiance. But... it was ill timed. For at the very moment, a new threat was rising. And the worlds were in peril, with no protection to turn to except for the chosen wielder of the Keyblade.

How does Kane go about doing everything himself? Taking care of a deadly threat, and protecting his pregnant wife at the same time... it's an impossible feat.

There's only one thing that can ensure Kanes ability to succeed.

Darkness.

Kane parried her thrust, pushing her blade to the side, and catching her in his arms as he ran foward...

"Well, no, but I have given you a few tips now and then." he craned his neck downward and kissed her.

"Like, to never let me distract you..." he said, poking her back gently with the tip of his keyblade. "Gotcha."

Yui frowned. She pushed Kane off her and blushed, desummoning her Keyblade. She sighed and crossed her arms.

"Y-you just got lucky."

Even though they were almost married, Yui still acted like a child whenever Kane messed with her like that. She closed her eyes and turned backto her fianc

"Very well, I won't expect it." he said, approaching her, his keyblade fading into the netherworld. He was almost next to her when the Gummi Ship alarm sounded off.

"What the hell?" he said, inaudible over the blaring siren. He ran towards the pilots chair, and checked the ships status.

But he didn't have to... because all he needed to know was right there out his window.

Hundreds... maybe thousands... of heartless gummi ships, blockading around the planet.

"Oh... well this is gonna be fun."

Yui rolled her eyes. She shoved Kane playfully and smiled. "Dont act so cocky! I don't want you to get killed out there."

She summoned her Keyblade once more and held Kane's shoulder. She was a bit scared of course. This was her first mission where she had to fight huge numbers of Heartless like this. Yui smiled at Kane sincerely and blushe a bit.

"Wish us luck!"

"Keyblades wont work for this time around." Kane said, half disappointed, half teasing.

He flipped a switch on the Gummi ships control panel, and a target reticle appeared in the center of the view screen.

A small joystick flipped out, "Time for manual control."

Upon moving the joystick, the target reticle moved with it, and locked on to one of the enemies. Kane's thumb brushed over the red button, and a flurry of lasers shot out of the nose cone, destroying the opponent.

Yui watched in amazement as the first enemy fell.

"Wow. That's so cool!" she laughed and sent back her Key. She sat on Kane's knee and smiled. "Let me try!" With that, she started to blast lasers everywhere. She hit a couple of targets and even brought one down.

"Man that's just too cool..."

"Handling it like a pro, Yui!" he said, winking.

He took over control. "I don't think we can take em' all now... we just need to make room for ourselves." he said, accelerating the ship to it's limits, holding down the red button all the while.

The enemies fell like flies as the gummi ship plowed through them, and they shredded as the lasers tore them apart.

And then they were through, on there way to the world.

Yui smiled. "You just have to be a stick in the mud." She hugged Kane and rested her head on his shoulder. "Radiant Garden's next, right?"

She remembered all those good times she had there. That was the place where she was born, where she gained a Keyblade, where she grew up to be a Keyblade Master...

Where she met her true love.

Kane brought the ship in for a landing right in the square. Pressing a small green button to his right, the hatch opened, letting in fresh air and blinding light from the outside.

Kane grabbed his gear and made for the doorway, running out into the town.

As his feet hit the ground, he summoned his blade, assuming his battle stance, prepared to figh-

...

Nothing.

There was nothing there... no shadows... no people... nothing. Just an empty town.

Yui walked calmly out, placing a hand on Kane's shoulder. "Don't be so tense, you're making me scared." She summoned her Keyblade and walked to the center of what appeared to be a plaza. It was surrounded by various types of flowers.

She looked around, not seeing anything that appeared to be an enemy. Yui turned back to Kane and gave him a confused look. She mouthed, "Nothing?"

"Nothing..." Kane was in disbelief. "There's nothing here."

He dematerialized his blade, placing the keychain in his pocket.

He turned to face Yui... "And I don't mean no heartless... there's NO ONE here."

Kane started to feel sick in his stomach... could they be to late?

Yui walked back to Kane, her eyes still looking around. "I said don't be tense. I never said to let your guard down..."

She looked around, peering to the streets and houses, taking a good look at everything. She frowned.

Yui's gaze fell as she sighed deeply. "Maybe we should look around. I don't want to take the chance of there being something out there hurting someone..." She locked her gaze with Kane's, her eyes pleading.

"You're right." he said, gently nodding.

He walked foward, taking in the surroundings, everything was familiar, yet distant.

He walked up the stairs, climbing up one of the cities walls.

He peered over the edge...

"Son of a bitch." he yelled underneath his breath. His eyes widened, his heart punded against his chest, and he found himself summoning his blade without even planning to do so.

Beyond that wall was the Great Maw. And every square inch was coated with a shadowy figure accompanied with a pair of yellow eyes.

Yui followed silently. She kept her ears and eyes wide open. When Kane took a sudden step back, she bumped into his strong back.

"Ouch." she rubbed her forehead softly. Yui saw Kane's face in an angry fix. She looked around the corner and her eyes widened. Yellow eyes were staring back. She pressed her back to the wall.

"How should we do this?"

  • Author

Kane's knuckles were white, he had been holding his keyblade so tightly.

"Back to back... jump down there... group together, and take it from there. Only thing we CAN do." true enough, suicidal though it may be, it was there only real option.

Kane dropped to one knee, placing his keyblade in front of him and resting his forehead to the hilt, and whispered the Keyblade Masters code of honor.

Yui nodded. She trembled a bit, but knelt beside Kane. She whispered the Code and once the words were spoken, she got up again. Yui never liked to fight. It brought out the worst in her. She was skilled, there was no doubt. But it made her have a sick feeling in the pit of heart. Kane had consoled her once about er problem telling her that "sometimes you need to fight to protect things you love".

She smiled quickly but sweetly to Kane. However, it was soon replaced with a serious, determined expression.

"Shall we?"

  • Author

"Lets." he replied, walking as far back as he could.

He cracked his neck, gripped his keyblade, took a few breaths, then charged foward, running full speed at the ledge.

As he reached the end, he took a bit of a lip of faith, hurling himself off the wall, with only the power of the keyblade and a lot of luck to protect him.

Yui jumped off of the building fairly quickly. If she didn't hurry, she'd miss everything. While falling, she saw Kane fall on his feet as agile as a cat.

'Show off.' she thought. Yui spun her body a bit so that her back faced Kane. Like he said, back to back. She landed with nothing but a light tap of her boots as an assurance of her descent. She raised her Keyblade at the enemy, her eyes fierce.

Kane stepped backward, standing right behind her.

"Let them attack first, then overtake them with a quick counter attack." he said, telling her his strategy. "It might work..."

She listened carefully to his words. Yui took a deep breath. This wouldn't be her fighting, no. It wouldn't be the sweet girl that was engaged to Kane Ettas. This was someone else.

This was Master Yui.

The peircing yellow eyes encircled her, watching, examining. She kept he eyes on one of them and locked her gaze on it. The moment it leapt towards her, Master Yui took over.

Kane saw battle differently then most... he paused to take in every detail... nothing slipped past him.

Before it even happened, Kane could see a heartless attacking him, and reacted to it.

The neoshadow leapt towards him, and Kane swung his blade into the creatures chest in midair, and the shadow dissipated.

In a swift motion, Yui spun the Key on her wrist, slashing the heartless in two, dissolving in midair. She grabbed it firmly again and cast a Thundaga at the shadows. Unfortunatly, it only caused temporary paralysis. Again. Worst. Mage. Ever.

She shook it off and looked behind her then ahead. There were four heartless coming at her, looking for an opening. In a flash, she took her blade in a reverse grip and spun clockwise. She was able to get three but missed one by a hair.

  • Author

Kane sensed the danger Yui was facing, and in a quick movement he backflipped over Yui's head and slashed the fourth before landing on his feet and going back to back with Yui again.

He he swung his keyblade to the left, then to the right, and then again. He was working up a spell. He swung it up, and shot out a burst of firaga into a tight group of heartless. It acted as a grenade of sorts, going through on heartless then spreading out into the others, killing all of them within a five or six feet radius.

Meanwhile, Yui didn't know why she had missed that Heartless. She felt woozy and uncomfortable in her own skin. she began to feel heavy and her breathing started to slow. Yui swooned a bit to the side before regaining her footing. However, it was short lived. As she prepared to lunge again, a flash of light appeared and her Keyblade was gone. The next thing she knew, the world spun and she collapsed on the ground.

Kane heard a distinct *thud*, a noise unlike any heartless he had encountered.

He spun around to see a wave of heartless preparing to tackle Yui's unconscious body.

With a roar, he leapt foward, destroying all of them in a 360? swing of his blade.

He bent down and grabbed her limp body. She was still breathing, but at an accelerated rate, and he could feel the sweat trickle down her back.

He stood there, the body of his fiancee in one arm, the keyblade in the other, and an army of heartless preparing to attack at any moment.

"Bugger." Kane softly whispered to himself.
