The Story:

17 years in the past, the protection of the Galaxy rested on the shoulders of two Keyblade wielders, Kane Ettas, and Yui Cross.

It wasn't easy, having the burden of protecting a universe... but they managed to do it, all the while preserving the love they had for each other.

But... things take a turn for the worse when Yui becomes pregnant, something neither of them had planned... Yui has to take a break, and leave the side of her fiance. But... it was ill timed. For at the very moment, a new threat was rising. And the worlds were in peril, with no protection to turn to except for the chosen wielder of the Keyblade.

How does Kane go about doing everything himself? Taking care of a deadly threat, and protecting his pregnant wife at the same time... it's an impossible feat.

There's only one thing that can ensure Kanes ability to succeed.

Darkness.

"Where am I.."

 

A lush green meadow spotted with white flowers had appeared in front of her. She walked forward, the bright sun shining down on her. Yui looked around. There was nothing.

 

"Wasn't I... in a fight..?" Yui tried to summon her Keyblade. Nothing. Then she noticed something else that made her heart stop.

 

"Kane!!" She yelled, looking around. In this vast field, she was alone...

Kane had no other choice then to retreat, which was also the most complicated of the choices before him. Seen as how there were heartless in every direction. The cliff face was his only option... if luck favored him then he would find a ledge or at the least a handhold.

He turned to the rockface and ran fullspeed in that direction, either running past or destroying whatever got in his way.

Yui walked further into the field. Over the horizon, something black and red was glowing. She ran towards it, seeing the sky darken and the sun dim. When the scene came into full view, she froze.

 

The meadow was being burned. Ashes and cinders were being blown into the air. Black smoke clouded up the sky and the intense heat made Yui's eyes water. She fell to her knees. How could something so peaceful and beautiful have something so horrible and wicked waiting to destroy it?

 

She clasped her hands together and shut her eyes. Hopefully, it wasn't a vision that Keybladers got from time to time. It symbolized something though. She knew it...

Kane had made it to the wall... he found a firm hold to place his hand, and was now slowly climbing up the wall. He had to be cautious though, making sure that Yui was secure, the heartless weren't following, and that his hands were on firm... wall.

He found a large ledge on the cliff that he could set Yui down on for now. "Sorry Yui, but thats as far as I can go. Or it will be to late for this world..." with that, he laid her down close to the wall. And leaped back to the ground below.

Yui lifted her head from the ground and looked back to the embers. She saw a boy, around sixteen walking towards her. He had familiar features but she couldn't make them out... When the young man opened his mouth to speak, light engulfed her dream.

 

"HAH!"

 

Yui gasped. Her eyes were wide open and she found herself in a cold sweat. Her breathing was irregular and shallow. Yui looked around. She was on a ledge...

 

Was this another dream?

As Kane reached the ground, he tumble-rolled foward, placing his hands on the ground in mid-motion, and flipping himself up. The shadows, neo-shadow, darksides... all of them had their eyes on Kane. With the intent to destroy.

Despite the danger, Kane was starting to enjoy himself.

"All right, you bastards, let's see what you can do.". With that, Kane summoned the Keyblade, and charged foward.

Yui looked around her. The one figure her heart longed for was gone in this reality as well as her drem. She looked over and past the ledge. Her eyes widened at the scene before her. Kane was being attacked by a wave of heartless. Yui felt her heart clench and tears fill her eyes. For a moment she couldn't speak or move. However, only one thing escaped her lips as her eyes shut an tears were squeezed out.

 

"KANE!!!"

Kane was in no immediate danger. Sure, he was getting slightly exhausted, but never before had he let that stop him.

But, when he heard Yui call out to him, he let his guard down. "Yui!" He yelled, looking up to her. Then, the heartlwaa leapt on top of him, overtaking him with the aid of surprise, and numbers. More and more tackled him, adding onto the dogpile forming around Kane.

((Heartlwaa? ))

 

Yui's eyes were wide with horror. She gasped as the colossal wave of heartless engulfed Kane. Then she realized something.

Why was she here on this ledge? She should be down there fighting alongside Kane. She was a Keyblade Master. She had no reason to be afraid. Yui had a Keyblade and Kane by her side. That is, if she saved him in time.

 

She shut all her thoughts out after that. She summoned her Key in one movement and jumped down to help. "Kane!" she yelled, fighting and cutting through Heartless. The number of them....

((No idea what happened there, with that typo. ))

Kane was trying to pull himself out of the pileup, but to no avail... the heartless were to persistent.

He managed to free one arm, before becoming to exhausted for much else.

His heart raced, the last sliver of light was engulfed in darkness, and the slightest sounds became echo's.

Kane fell unconscious...

Yui had become irritated with all of these Heartless. She was becoming impatient and frantic. She needed to know Kane was alright, to know he was safe, to know he was alive.

 

With a growl, she cast her best Thundaga. In an instant all of the shadows dissapeared and there lied Kane...

 

Motionless...

 

"Kane!!" she screamed, rushing over to him.

As the sound of her voice met his ear, a bolt of life surged through his body, and he gained consciousness.

With a gasp of air, he pushed himself onto his knees.

"Yui... what the hell... happened?" He managed to sputter out inbetween breaths.

Yui clashed her body with his, holding him in a tight embrace. She shook a bit, feeling more scared than any moment in her entire life. The thought of losing him made her heart stop. She let go of him slowly. Her hands went from around his neck to his cheeks.

 

"The heartless... It was my fault... I shouldn't have called out to you... If I had kept my mouth shut you would have been safe..." With every word, Yui's gazefell lower and lower. This was all her fault...Kane had gotten hurt because of her...

"Yui... You're at fault for nothing." Kane said, softly. He reached up and gently stroked the side of her head, before pulling her into a soft kiss.

He pulled back, and with his strength restored somewhat. He managed to sit up on his own.

There were still heartless out there... granted, fewer, but still plenty.

"They're mostly around the outer rims now, but they're moving in fast."

Yui pressed her forehead to Kane's and closed her eyes. She held his hands in her own and intertwined their fingers. "We'll go. I promise I won't be so weak next time. I swear."

 

She opened her eyes and smiled a bit, her blue eyes staring at Kane. "Keyblader's Promise." She helped Kane up and let go of his hands. Yui turned and summoned her Keyblade. "Let's go."

Kane cracked his fingers, summoning his keyblade thereafter.

Despite the hundreds of shadows that the two of them has so far slain. There were thousands still strong, waiting to step up.

"No fear... No hesitation... And no regrets." Kane said, firmly. And with that, he nodded to his fiancee, and charged foward.

As they ran through Radiant Garden, it was just as empty as it was at first. However, the few shadows that did appear were easily destroyed. The further they ran, the denser and more compact the groups of heartless had become. Surely, there had to be a pattern.

 

"I think we might catch a big heartless soon, considering all the scattered small ones. What do you think?" Yui asked.
