"I think...you should use this as an opportunity to make the number your own," Naminé said and brought a hand to her heart. She knew the feeling of having the past haunt her. Ever since her departure

His grip on her tightened. A slight squeeze to reassure her that he was here. That he didn't want to leave. Part of him felt bad for Noel. He knew the other boy wouldn't like their close proximity, but, like a moth to a flame, Sora was drawn to her--her magnetic blue eyes, soft smile, and kind heart. "Do you think...do you think we could try finishing that project sometime this week? Unless I mean...you had someone else help you. I know the due date was coming up soon." He felt bad for leaving her hanging because of the fight. Kairi was serious about school.

"Heh," Kairi breathed with a smile. Through all of this, he still thought about her studies? How sweet. "Of course. As long as you promise to be my model." She hadn't even thought about asking Noel, and now she knew why--she wanted Sora to help her with the project. It was the biggest project of the semester for her; it was half her final grade. She turned her head toward him a little more at his consideration, and his warmth, and his comfort...and pretty much everything about him. Her nose brushed his neck. This was definitely too close for two best friends, but Kairi didn't care. Not right now.

"I'd be honored," Sora grinned, "Text me when you need me, and I'll be there." They still had time. Not much considering the scope of the project, but Sora was determined to help Kairi succeed. He wanted her to have the highest marks in the class! Her nose brushing against his neck tickled, but he refused to move away. Not even an inch. Maybe it was wrong to be this close. Just one more minute...

Kairi smelled Sora's cologne from this proximity, and she closed her eyes again. Unbeknownst to her, her eyelashes tickled his skin too. She felt guilty, knowing she was on a date with another guy and letting Sora hold her like this, but....she couldn't make herself pull away. It wasn't fair to Noel, no, but Kairi had to embrace this while she had it. Noel would understand, or so she hoped. Sora was her best friend... "Thank you."

Noel played against Roxas twice now, and he had to admit the blond's accuracy was astounding; he got beaten both times. "Okay, gotta admit, I'm a sore loser," he joked with a crooked smile. Roxas laughed softly, but that was when Noel noticed that Namine was alone. Where's Kairi? he thought, smile disappearing as he looked around. There, over by the tree, he spotted her...and with that Sora guy. That's a bit intimate, he acknowledged. The way they held each other had jealousy flaring from within.

"Of course. Anything for you, Kai," Sora said softly. No matter what it took. He would make sure she was happy.

Naminé sensed the jealousy leaking from the tall brunet. She felt bad for him; the blonde understood the pain one's heart could cause. "Something wrong, Noel?"

Kairi's smile grew at the nickname. She couldn't remember the last time Sora called her that. He was the only who ever used the name for her, but she loved it all the same.

Noel lifted an eyebrow. "That's...Sora, right?" he asked, glancing to the blondes before finding his date again. "Have they always been that close?" Passersby could mistake Sora for Kairi's date at this rate...and Noel wasn't sure how he felt about that. Confused? Angered and a little jealous?

"Sora and Kairi have been best friends since they were children," Naminé explained gently, "They've been through a lot together." Like Roxas and I. Her eyes flickered to the blond boy beside her. She wanted to tell Noel there was nothing to worry about, but Naminé couldn't lie.

"Mm," Noel hummed lowly, tilting his head. He witnessed Kairi pull back from the embrace, but her hands still rested on Sora. Best friends....right. He sensed there was more going on than that.

Roxas looked to Namine at Noel's tone. This could get ugly fast... Did they need to get Kairi again?

Kairi looked up at Sora. Her hands gripped his shirt at his sides still, and they remained close. Was it bad that she didn't want to separate from him?

Naminé didn't answer Roxas directly but made a motion with her head towards where the red head was standing with Sora. She would help diffuse things.

"I think we should go back to the others," Sora murmured. He didn't want to leave. But they probably should, right?

Roxas nodded to Namine slightly before focusing back on Noel. "They had a bit of catching up to do, but things seem to be all good now. Namine will go get Kairi," he explained to his friend's date. He and Noel could just hang out here.

Kairi kept her eyes locked onto Sora's. His low tone sent shivers down her spine, leaving her breathless. "...We should," she agreed softly, her voice a whisper. And yet...neither she nor Sora moved away from each other. Being this close to him had her heart singing. This just felt right.

"Kairi?" Naminé called gently once she felt that her friend was within earshot, "I don't mean to interrupt, but..." Noel is waiting. He's upset. She wanted her friends to be together. She did. But Noel was a nice boy...

Kairi blinked, snapping out of the trance Sora's eyes always seemed to put her in. She turned her head and saw Namine. That was when she remembered the world outside her and Sora's small bubble. But...Noel, she finished for her friend. "Oh, right," she replied with a faint smile. Right, she had to get back to her date. Kairi took her hands back from Sora, eyes dancing up to him as she stepped away. She hoped Sora would come with her... She didn't want him to be alone again. "...Will you come meet him?" she requested, a bit nervous all of a sudden. Sora and Noel had never actually spoken.

Sora tried to keep his smile but even his cheeriness faltered slightly. "Y-Yeah, that'd be great." He needed to stay positive. Noel had to be a decent guy if Kairi was willing to go on a date with him.

"They're still playing some games over there, if you want to join," Naminé offered. She could tell Sora was tense. Not that she blamed him. Sora held Kairi so dearly. Meeting Noel would be quite the test for the boy hero.

Kairi smiled warmly at Sora, but it was also an encouraging expression. She really thought that if given the chance, Sora could like Noel. They had similar interests. "Come on," she prompted gently, grasping Sora's wrist and bringing him with her. She had to admit she was a bit nervous, since Sora's opinion meant a lot to her, but...she had faith this could go well.

Sora trailed behind Kairi helplessly. What could he do? "O-Okay..." He just hoped he could keep his cool with the other boy. Sora was sure Noel had mixed feelings of his own given the history he and Kairi shared with one another.

Naminé led the two past the cotton candy stall and back towards the games, giving her own blond companion a small nod to signify she had their two friends in tow. I just hope things stay civil.

Roxas looked over his shoulder in time to see everyone returning. He caught Namine's nod and smiled to Sora and Kairi. "Hey," he greeted. "You guys catch up?"

Kairi nodded, releasing Sora's wrist when they came to a stop by her date. He turned to her, and she tried not to read into the hard look in his eyes. She hoped that wasn't directed at her or Sora, even if she did kind of ditch him for a few minutes. "Noel, this is my best friend Sora," she declared, smiling faintly at him. "Sora, this is Noel." She linked her hands behind her back and bit her lip. Please don't fight...

Noel took a step closer to Kairi and held out a hand to Sora. "We briefly met a few days ago," he acknowledged. "Noel Kreiss." Kairi's date.

Sora eyed the other boy's hand for a moment uncertainly. Should he? He glanced at Kairi and sighed in defeat. He should. "Sora," the boy returned with a wry smile, "Nice to meet you." The brunet kept his grip on Noel's hand tight as if to test the other's worthiness.

Noel glanced down at Sora's hand at the grip, so he tightened his as well. Noel was probably only an inch taller than Sora, and the spiky-haired boy looked more toned up close. Noel was just a little bigger in the muscle department.

Kairi looked between the guys and gnawed on her lip. This was...good, right?

Roxas stood next to Namine, arms crossed. It may have just been him, but he thought he saw some competitive glares being shared between Sora and Noel. Uh-oh.

"You from around here?" Sora asked, not releasing his grip. His smile was intact, but there was a fire in his eyes.

  • Author

"Nope."

Noel's answer was short...too short. Kairi also noticed that they didn't release each other. She cleared her throat quietly and stepped forward, placing her hand atop both of theirs. "Noel's from Pulse, a city nearby," she tried, looking between them. Let go.

Sora took the hint and released the other boy's hand. "I've never been there. Big city, huh?"

Noel turned his hand over when Sora released it, instead grasping Kairi's. His hold was much softer with her. She stepped beside him, and while Noel wasn't the insecure type, he did feel a little better with her closer. "Not as big as Radiant Garden," he answered, looking down at Kairi. She smiled up at him weakly.

Roxas heard his phone chime. It was a reminder on his phone to get ready for his performance. "Uh, I gotta get going," he announced, rubbing the back of his neck. "A big part of my grade this semester is riding on this performance, so..."

"Go ahead. We'll be there in a little bit," Kairi said on behalf of the group. Roxas was bound to do well. If karaoke was anything to go on, this would be great.

"Right," Naminé affirmed with a small nod before looking at the group, "We should probably go find Riku and Lightning. It'll start getting crowded otherwise." Probably with more of his fan club.... The thought brought a frown to her lips. Hopefully, there wouldn't be anymore Reginas.

"Heh, we can't miss that," Sora added cheekily. He was actually pretty excited to see his other perform though. It would be nice to see the blond center stage.

Roxas smirked and rolled his eyes at Sora's words, but he then focused on Namine. "I'll see you soon," he said, briefly touching her back as he stepped away. He...didn't want to leave her, but backstage access was tight. He wouldn't be able to get her through. It was performers only.

Kairi watched Roxas go, a knowing smile on her lips. That goodbye was personal, only for Namine, she noticed. He so likes her.

Naminé watched him leave, a light blush dusting her cheeks. They would meet again. She mused with a budding smile. Like we always do.

A handful of devoted fans huddled around the center of the stage; a large wooden half circle with lights decorating the outside to keep performers visible as the sky faded into night. "This should be fun," Sora commented as he followed their group towards an open space near the right side. He tried to keep his eyes away from Noel. If he didn't, it would be hard to maintain his cool.
