"I think...you should use this as an opportunity to make the number your own," Naminé said and brought a hand to her heart. She knew the feeling of having the past haunt her. Ever since her departure

"Heh, you don't branch out much, do ya, Rox?" Sora teased, sitting up so that he could reach for his smoothie. He handed Kairi hers first, hoping the tangy flavor would bring a smile back to her lips.

Naminé waved and moved to sit on the edge of her own bed adjacent from Kairi's. "How are you feeling?" she asked quietly.

Roxas rolled his eyes at Sora as he took a spot next to Namine on her bed. He didn't find it weird, considering Sora and Kairi were on the redhead's bed. He would be careful not to spill his smoothie though. Namine wouldn't be very happy about that, he was sure.

Kairi took a sip of her smoothie and sighed at the flavor. Delicious. "I'm better," she admitted with a faint nod. "Sora helped a lot." She gently nudged him with her shoulder. "Sorry I ran off on you, though." She felt awful about leaving Namine, but she had been so overwhelmed.

"I'm glad," Naminé said with a relieved sigh, "but..." She looked down at her smoothie. "I should be the one apologizing to you. I just stood there when everything happened instead of helping." She turned to Sora then and offered the boy a small, appreciative smile. "Thank you for taking care of Kairi."

Sora blinked at the blond girl in confusion. "Of course!"

Kairi lifted a hand and placed it on Sora's closest to her. She gave him a small smile as well, squeezing his hand. She then looked to Namine. "Don't apologize. You didn't do anything wrong, I promise." Namine may not have said anything, but what could she say at the time? It really wouldn't have mattered. "Besides, if you tried, I probably wouldn't have noticed. I was kind of...distracted." All the hoots and hollers didn't help things.

Roxas's eyebrows furrowed at that. He heard the commotion, of course, but now that he knew the reason, he wasn't exactly pleased.

"O-Okay," Naminé said, "If you're sure. I just...don't want to be a bad friend to you. I still can't believe people with hearts can be so terrible." Wasn't a heart supposed to make you human? Give you sympathy and empathy? "Do you know who did it?"

Kairi shook her head, taking her hand back from Sora's. "No. My first thought was Noel, but he's not that cruel," she explained, then taking a sip of her drink. She wasn't sure who else could have done it.

"It had to be someone who witnessed your fight," Roxas declared, lifting an eyebrow. "The question is who has a personal vendetta against you, Kairi."

"Anyone who doesn't like you in your classes?" Naminé asked. Kairi had mentioned one girl giving her the cold shoulder in her fashion class, but what motivation could that person have had.

"I really don't understand how anyone could have that kind of vendetta against you though," Sora mused with a frown. Really, who could hate Kairi of all people?

Kairi shrugged faintly. "Some girls in class are pretty snobby, but I don't think they would take it this far..." One girl was the worst of them all. Veronica. Kairi got a top score in the class on an assignment, and Veronica hadn't exactly hidden her distaste. "Then again, the people here aren't like the people we grew up with on Destiny Islands." She said the last bit to Sora, her eyes on him now. The islanders were lovely, incredibly kind. Radiant Garden...wasn't so radiant sometimes.

"I wouldn't be so sure," Naminé murmured, thinking of Alexis who had been so cruel over such a small thing. I don't want to start pointing fingers, but it's not a stretch to think that this girl had something to do with what happened. Jealousy taints the heart, makes it callous.

Roxas turned his head to gaze at Namine at the mumble. His eyes softened at the memory of those girls who practically stalked him and bullied her. Just the image of Namine so upset and crying... Roxas wanted to hold her tightly and never let her go. Sorry I couldn't be there for you.

"They'll show themselves eventually," Sora said with hard eyes. People like them always did. "And when they do, they better be ready to take responsibility for their actions."

Kairi recognized that look on Sora's face; he was upset. Not that she could blame him. She was hurt too, and angry. "Well...until then," she began, looking to the blondes. "Sora mentioned going to see a movie. You guys want to go?"

Roxas perked up at the question. "That new superhero movie?" he asked, blinking. Was that the one Sora wanted to see? When Kairi nodded, he smiled. "Yeah, sure! Wanna head out tonight?" He looked between his friends. He was all for a movie.

"A movie sounds good," Naminé agreed, "What time were you thinking of going?" Naminé hadn't seen many movies, but the experience, she had learned quickly, was enjoyable. Unless it's a horror movie...

"We could head out in an hour or so," Sora suggested, glancing at the time on his phone. They could make a 7 o'clock movie for sure if they left before six.

Roxas nodded. "Cool. Should we leave you girls to get ready?" he asked, smiling a little. Kairi rolled her eyes at him, and his smile turned sheepish.

"It doesn't take us an hour to get ready, Roxas," Kairi declared, then taking a sip of her smoothie.

"Hey, I was just trying to give you enough time," Roxas said in his defense. He chuckled when Kairi stuck her tongue out at him. "Fine, we'll go. C'mon, Sora." He stood from his seat, taking another slurp of his smoothie. He poked Namine lightly in the shoulder. He would see her soon.

Naminé looked over and cast the blond a smile. "See you in a little bit."

"Kairi's right. She and Selphie could be ready in record time back on the islands when we were kids," Sora added, lifting himself up and walking towards the door. His eyes lingered on Kairi. "It'll be fun. Promise."

Roxas smiled a little around his straw and started out, passing Sora and stepping out into the hall. He would freshen up too.

Kairi met Sora's gaze and smiled softly. Right, she would see him soon. She believed him too. He would make this fun for her if he had to, but...she figured just being with him would be a good time on its own.

Soon an hour had passed and the four teens were at the movie theater getting concessions. Naminé eyed the glass display with pursed lips. What would she get this time? She liked chocolates, but fruity sweets were nice too..."What are you going to get, Roxas?"

  • Author

"Hmm," Roxas hummed, eyebrows furrowing as he went over the choices. He then blinked. "Ooh! Sea-salt bites!" He had enough cash for that. "What about you? My treat." He and Sora had already agreed that they were treating the girls tonight, just because they could. And the girls hadn't had the best of luck lately with college. Hopefully this could change that.

Kairi filled up her drink at the soda fountain, glancing over her shoulder when she heard Roxas's excited declaration at the candy. She giggled slightly, but that smile fell away when she saw a few guys staring at her. Around her age, most likely attending the university. Yep, they recognized her. Kairi's cup overflowed, trickling over her fingers, and she snapped to attention. "Oh!" she gasped, stopping immediately. Whoops.

"You and your sea salt," Naminé giggled, nudging him slightly. His predictability, however, was adorable. "I'm still not sure. Chocolate sounds good right now, but so does something fruity..." She placed a finger to her bottom lip thoughtfully. Why was this such a tough choice?

The guys watching her snickered, one even pointing before looking back to something on his phone.

"Whoa, need a napkin?" Sora asked, coming over to her side. His frame now obscured the group. "I can clean this up if you want to go wash your hands?" Sticky hands were never good.

Roxas looked at Namine when she nudged him, just in time to see her put her finger to her bottom lip. He stared. Did she realize what that kind of gesture did to him? He wanted nothing more than to...kiss her. He was sure her lip gloss was fruity too... "Um," he said, snapping out of it and raking his fingers through his hair. "Go ahead and get both. We can split whatever you can't finish."

Kairi sipped the rim of her cup, smiling sheepishly as she then wiped at the corner of her mouth. "I'm a klutz," she joked. "But, uh...no, it's okay. Can you grab me a lid?" She would try to forget the way those guys looked at her in the meantime. She actually didn't want to leave Sora's side in fear of someone following her and offering to have their "measurements" taken.

She tilted her head, eyes worried. "I don't want to make you spend too much munny on me though." He really was sweet to her. Sometimes Naminé wondered what she did to deserve such a sweet guy in her life.

"Yeah, sure," Sora said and turned around to reach for a lid. He hesitated for a moment, seeing Kairi's uneasy expression. Had something else happened. "You sure you're okay?" When he looked behind, the group of boys was still there, but they weren't eyeing Kairi like a pack of hungry wolves.

Roxas placed his hand on Namine's back lightly. "Trust me, it's fine," he insisted. Besides, he could go play some music around Radiant Garden and make more munny from tips. "I want to."

Kairi tossed the napkin she used to wipe her hands into the nearest bin, then looking to her best friend. She saw where he gazed and she put a hand on his arm. "I'm fine," she lied, smiling gently at him. She could handle heartless and nobodies; she could deal with guys staring at her. "Lid please?"

"Okay," Naminé finally agreed, "but I'm going to draw you something in return. Your choice." Roxas always seemed to like her art. He had a habit of watching her while she sketched--not that she minded. The company was nice.

Sora watched her expression shift, lingering on the hint of fear in her eyes before handing her the lid. "Alright...I guess we should get seats then."

  • Author

“Deal,” Roxas agreed with a nod. He paid for the snacks and joined the other couple—was that the correct term? Was this a...date? Did Namine think it was a date?

Kairi entered the screening room and took her seat. She sat between Sora and Namine, with Roxas taking the end next to her roommate. She wasn’t sure if that was planned or not, but she didn’t object.

Edited by Forever Love

Naminé took her snacks with a happy hum and followed Roxas to meet up with Sora and Kairi. She wondered briefly if they looked like they were on a date--that she minded. It was kind of like one...

Sora, who had bought a bucket of popcorn before coming into the screening room, munched happily. The movie hadn't started yet, but the bag was refillable, and he was hungry. "Want some?" Sora asked after swallowing.
