"Oh. Xion, you didn't know?"
I didn't.
"Axel and I are going out."
My response?
"Oh, how silly of me."
It was stupid of me to even like him. After all, he's my best friend, that's the way it should stay.
Yet, it still hurt.
Instantly, I raised my hand.
"Yes, Xion?" the teacher called.
Choking back the tears for a moment, I asked, "May I please go to the restroom?"
"Okay, but hurry back. We're going over our lesson."
Without a moment to waste, I sped out of the classroom. Since I wasn't in the comfort of my own home, the next best place for me to hide out in was the girls' restroom, in the west wing, on the third floor, during third period. No one went to that restroom during that time. It is rather sad that I would know this sort of stuff.
As I turned the corner, I let my mind loose for a brief second as I saw his locker. As that unfaithful conversation re-entered my mind, my eyes began to water. I charged into a sprint, entering the restroom as the first tear escaped. As my eyes continued to leak, I rushed into a stall, locking the door. As I sat on the floor, leaning against the wall, I allowed my tears to be free.
As I cried, it felt as though I'd been crying for half an hour, even though it was merely ten seconds. The one thing that I should have done before emptying my eyes out was make sure that no one else was in the room.
"Hello?" The sudden voice had muted me. The voice was a bit deep, almost like a male's. "Unless that's a freshman crying, I should let you know that this is the men's restroom." I froze. Oops. I guess I didn't pay attention to which restroom I went into.
"S... Sorry," I croaked, "I'll be out soon." As I tried to clean my face off with my arms, I heard footsteps approach. A pair of Vans stopped in front of the stall that I was in.
"Care to talk about it?" he asked. I was slightly surprised that this random guy was even asking such a thing from me.
"... It's kind of stupid, really," I admitted, giving a weak smirk.
"I don't mind," the guy said as he sat down. I saw his fadish-blue jeans, dark grey sleeves, and the bottom of his grey shirt. His hands that held him up looked so smooth.
I stared down at my converses, trying to find a way of explaining myself. "Have you ever had someone close to you, you think they might be the one?"
"Not really," he said after a moment's thought. I continued to think of how to word things. However, I was finding it to be very difficult. The more I thought on the topic, the more I neared my waterworks again.
".... Roxas, he... he's my best friend... but... but he's...." By this point, my strength to hold back all of my tears vanished.
As I continued to cry, the guy muttered, "Oh..." Assumably, he knew exactly what I was talking about. That also means that, until now, I was the only one that didn't know that Roxas and Axel had a thing. "Hey," he began, "if it helps, I didn't know until a week ago."
"R-really...?" I sniffled.
"Yeah," he said. "Axel's one of my friends, yet he never told me. Such a friend he turns out to be..." I briefly chuckled as my leaking lessened. "I'm guessing that your situation's rather different, huh?" I gave a pointless nod. "What's your name?"
"... Xion," I said. Suddenly, the guy chuckled. My confusion led me to a light blush. "What?"
"Our names," he stated, "they're almost similar. I'm Zexion." I lightly laughed. After all, they kind of did. "So, are you really intending on staying in there all class period?"
"I could ask you the same thing," I remarked with a smirk.
"I need to finish my book," Zexion said, showing me a quick glimpse of its light orange cover, "but Prof. Vexen won't allow me to read during Chemistry class. It's urgent for me to finish it before lunch starts." I laughed. I found it rather odd for a boy to be so serious when it comes to reading novels.
"But why the restroom?" I asked. I suddenly became self-cautious of all of the germs on the floor.
"Don't worry," he said, "my friend, Xeroe has the decency to clean every corner of this place for his own satisfaction." Oh, how convenient, I guess. "I'm guessing that you're done crying...?" It had come to my realization that my water-show had ended for quite awhile.
Smiling, I said softly, "Yeah, I am. Thank you."
Zexion didn't say anything for a moment. I had figured that he became embarrassed or something. "I'd probably get in trouble if I walk out with a girl," he stated, "if you know what I mean, so you should probably head on back to class." Giving another pointless nod, I wiped the dry tears off of my face before I unlocked the door.
As the door swung open, I was awestricken for a moment. Zexion's face was as smooth and pale as his hands were. His eye was mesmerizing, having the same color and glisten as a swimming pool. His other eye was covered by his one-sided blue-grey bangs. He was rather cute, and familiar....
"I've seen you before," I stated, still surprised. "You're in a couple of Axel's classes."
"And I've seen you hanging out with Axel and Roxas a couple of times," Zexion said, having the same expression that I had. The mention of Roxas' name almost pained me, but I held that wave of grief down.
"Well, see you around, Zexion," I said as I stood up, giving a faint smile.
As I began to leave, Zexion replied, "Same to you."
