Sora shook, his tears still falling. The taste of the red liquid reminded of him that he got hurt. When Riku left, he cried harder, mostly because he didn't have the company of his friend.

 

"R-Riku, it hurts~!!" he cried, tears getting bigger.

Riku ran faster, his legs aching as he clenched the ice pack tightly. He needed to take a breather but he could hear Sora's wailing from this far away. He needed him. Nearly tripping over the sand he came into the Spot, skinning his knees as he slid down next to Sora's crying form. He rubbed sothing circles on his back, putting the ice on Sora's cheek gently.

 

"Shh, Sora it's okay. I'm here now, I'm here. It's okay."

Sora's screams faded into small wimpers. He felt better now that Riku was taking care of him. The ice felt good on his skin and Riku's words calmed him down.

 

"I guess..." he sniffed, "I can't protect myself..."

Riku shook his head, removing the ice pack to look at his lip which was still bleeding, dribbling blood down his chin. Riku wiped it off with his thumb before clensing the wound carefully.

 

"That's why I'm here. I promised you to always keepyou safe and I mean it." He sighed. "But you'l learn Sora. And someday...you may not need me then." Riku didn't like to think he wouldn't be nessecary to Sora anymore, that hewouldn't always defend him. But he needed to be realstic. Sora may never need his protection ever again. He may not need him.

Sora sniffed. He wiped away the last of his tears and sniffed once more. He looked at Riku with big blue eyes andsnile a small smile. Sora put his hand on Riku's and looked at him sincerely.

 

"I'll always need you, Riku."

Riku looked at the hand on his, gulping lightly. It was that feeling again. Riku didn't dare voice it, I mean c'mon, how awkward would that be? He nodded stiffly, looking anywhere but at Sora's adorable eyes.

 

"I...yeah, yeah..You say that now." He mumbled, bangs hiding his dancing eyes. He was happy though that, for just a few moments, Sora was saying he needed him. Nothing could make him happier.

 

"So do you wanna' try and beat me again or do you wanna' explore the area a bit?" Riku asked, looking a bit sadly at Sora's swollen lip.

Riku, clearly not expecting that answer, was taken aback. He really hadn't thought that Sora would want to do something so...girly, for lack of better term. But as he faced the rolled waves, still tending to Sora, he couldn't hulp but feel relaxed. Giving a sigh he nodded, smiling just slightly.

 

"Alright, just let me bandage you up real quick." He said, taking out a band-aid and placing it on Sora's chin. "Does your lip still hurt?"

Sora shook his head. "No... Just a bit but I'm okay..."

Sora stood up and walked with Riku, holding his hand. He still had a sad look on his face because he just embarrassed himself in front of his best friend.

 

He looke at the waves and somehow, it made him feel better...

Riku couldn't help it when he poked Sora's cheek, giving a smile. The brunette's subconscious pout and downcast look at the ocean was to cute and made his heart ache. Especially cause he knew it was Sora's sad face.

 

"Hey, cheer up! It's okay for you to get hurt, it happens!" He cooed, holding his hand back. "Besides, I don't like it when you wear your gloomy face~"

Sora flinched. He peered over and Riku. "Yeah, I guess your right..."

Sora stood up and faced Riku. He pinched both of his cheeks and stretched them upwards, making an overdramatic smile form.

 

"Dere, Riku! I'n fmiling agaim!!"

Riku blinked, looking at Sora's expression before biting his lip. It was no use though as a genuine smile broke onto his face and he let go of Sora's hand as he clutched his stomach and broke out in happy laughter. Riku hardly laughed, let alone in Sora. But the brunette was one of the few who could make him.

 

"S-sorry Sora, it's j-just..! Your face!" He fell to his knees, unable to control his laughter.

Sora frowned. "Hey~ You're not supposed to laugh!" Sora looked at Riku gapsing for breath and laughing. He really liked how Riku looked when he was happy. It made him smile too. But this time, he didn't have to force himself.

 

"You're so mean, Riku."

Riku wiped away the tears at his eyes, hints of laughter still in his voice as he still smiled, looking up at Sora.

 

"I'm s-sorry Sora." He apologized, scratching his cheek gently as he held the brunette's hand again, gaining control of himself. He couldn't help it. That had been funny, and it made him happy again.

Sora smiled. He pulled Riku up to the tree and let go of his hand. Sora tried to climb onto the bending tree but kept slipping off. Unfortunatly, he wasn't tall enough to reach the top or get a good grip. Surely, Riku would help him...

 

"Hey Riku! Could you help me?"

Riku watched as Sora struggled to climb the tree and failed, shaking his head. He himself hopped on before hearing Sora's request.

 

"Hey Riku! Could you help me?" He looked down at the boy and gave a small laugh. Reaching down carefully, he pulled Sora up effortlessly onto his lap before sitting him next him, holding an arm behind him to make sure the male wouldn't fall.

 

"Silly..."

Sora smiled and adjusted himself next to Riku. He sighed an looked at Riku and back to the ocean. "Hey Riku?" Sora stared at him with big blue eyes. He put his hand on Riku's.

 

"I don't want this to change. I want it to be just like this forever. Me and you."

Rku looked down at the hand, feeling butterflies in his stomach as he gulped, blushing. Did he really just hear Sora say that? Swallowing his nervous feelings he nodded, looking back at Sora's blue eyes.

 

"Me too Sora, me too."

Sora scanned Riku's face. Something seemed funny about it. His eyes were different and his cheeks were a bit red.

"Uh, Riku? You don't look well... You aren't sick are you?" Sora asked, placing his hand on Riku's frehead. "You're burning up..."

Riku's face flushed even more, aqua eyes widening just slightly as Sora got close to his face to examine his.

 

"I-uh-y-yeah. I'm fine." He stated calmly, unable to look away from Sora's concerned gaze, biting his lip. How embarrassing for him.

Sora watched and felt his face get redder and hotter. He frowned. Sora took his hand off of Riku's head. "I know you won't tell me what it is that's making you like this, or if you feel sick or not. We'll just leave it at that then."

Riku nodded, looking in the opposite direction of Sora, attempting to cool down. Stupid blush...he was a guy, guys didn't blush! He thought stubbornly, crossing his arms as he frowned, deep in thought. He was supposed to protect Sora! He couldn't do that by acting like a girl could he?!

 

Disgruntled, Riku hopped of the tree, blowing up sand, and trudged to the waters edge where he poked his toes in. He shivered. The water was cold.

Sora watched as Riku left their spot an ran up to the water's edge. "Riku!" He called. Was he mad?

The brunnette tried to get off of the tree, his feet dangling a bit before hitting the sand. He ran over to Riku and looked at him.

 

"Whats wrong..?"

Riku looked over at Sora with a raised eyebrow and gave a weak smile, ruffling his hair.

 

"I'm just thinking silly, don't jump to conclusions." He stated thoughtfully, still letting his mind race. He didn't want to worry Sora but the brunette was always so nosy, always wanting to help his friend. Which he couldn't say he disliked. But he couldn't tell Sora he felt like a baby for feeling like a girl! That'd be the worst appearance for someone Sora was supposed to look up to!

Sora smiled. "You think too much." He turne to the forest and grabbed Riku's hand. "C'mon! Let's go explore!" Sora pulled Riku's hand and dragged him into the forest.

And then they passed by a dark cave that make Sora shiver.
