It all depends really. Love is like a roller coaster; you have ups and downs and anything can go. I don't really thinks its a bad thing but sometimes people develop attachments too much. For example, with my ex-bf I dated him for three years. It was going well and I got quite attached to him. Then he started being an A-hole and I was forced to break an attachment that I held quite dear to me.
