The cast is coming together for DC's next highly anticipated direct-to-DVD feature, Batman: Year One, and it includes some names that genre fans ought to recognize. The animated adaptation of Frank Miller's popular comic series will feature the voices of Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Ben McKenzie (The OC), Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse) and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), according to the Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

The 12th animated feature in the successful series from Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation will be directed by Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu, who previously collaborated on Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. The script was written by Tab Murphy (Superman/Batman Apocalypse).

The four-issue follow-up to Miller's groundbreaking Batman: The Dark Knight Returns was originally published in 1987, with artwork by David Mazzucchelli. It goes back to the roots of the character, depicting a young Bruce Wayne as he first takes on the mantle of costumed vigilante and forms a bond with Lieutenant James Gordon. Cranston will voice Gordon opposite McKenzie as Bruce. Dushku becomes the next in a long line of sultry vixens to play Catwoman, while Sackhoff has been cast as Gordon's love interest, Detective Sarah Essen. Alex Rocco has also been announced as the voice of crime lord Carmine Falcone.

Executive producer Bruce Timm told Heat Vision that the movie will be faithful to the beloved comics.

"The source material is surprisingly cinematic; it's a pretty straight forward literal retelling," he said. "Mazzucchelli's artwork is beautifully composed and we were able to refer to the comic for about 80 percent of the camera setups."

Cranston admits that he initially passed on the role, having not been familiar with either the comics or DC's previous features.

"I wasn't aware of this level of storytelling in animation. I confess that freely," he said. "They didn't give the characters the short shrift. I was stunned."

Batman: Year One, which will be rated PG-13, is scheduled to be released on home video in the fall but will have its world premiere in July at Comic-Con.

My opinion: I wish kevin conroy would've done it though but Bruce Timm is working on it so it should be good and looking forward to this movie because Graphic novel is one of my favourite one's ever made
