so, yeah, I'm doing it.

Day 1--

Rino had never been very popular. His small, emaciated body ensured that he was awful at work and his status as a servant helped none.

He brushed his hands through his long black hair. He hadn't cut it in a while; maybe he would ask Mama if she could trim a little bit.

Only a couple more days...then I'll finally be 16.

He had been waiting for this for years now. He would finally be free.

It wasn't that he didn't love Mama; she had raised him since he was little and, if things were different he would stay with her forever. But he hated this town. He needed to leave. Soon.

edit;; Adding short character bios to the end of all of the "character descriptions" because I want to clarify more and because these are all going to be pretty short. :B

Name: Rino

Age: 15 (soon to be 16)

Rank/occupation: Palace servant

Bio: Rino was found left on the palace steps when he was a baby. He was taken in by the head servant, Luka (called "Mama" by the other servants) and started working when he was 3. He's been severely malnourished his entire life and, as a result, is not strong enough to do normal work. Rino has been known to snap at people over small things and isn't very social, making him disliked by many people. He does, however, have a slight soft spot and will take care of people if they need him to.

Day 2--

Noelle bent over slightly to grab another rose from the basket. Taking great care not to poke herself with one of its thorns, she began braiding it with the stem of her first flower.

She held her make-shift hairpiece up to the light.

It's not the prettiest thing ever...but I like it. Maybe I'll give it to Rino. His birthday is coming up soon.

Soon.

They had been planning to run away together for so long...but it still didn't quite feel like they were leaving. The idea was so crazy, so surreal, that she could barely even believe it was true.

She and Rino would be outcasts no longer. They would be able to live.

Name: Noelle

Age: 16

Rank/occupation: None

Bio: A homeless girl, abandoned by her parents, Noelle has been living in the streets since she was 6. She met Rino when she was rooting through the palace garbage. He offered her food and smuggled her inside so she could get warm, and they became fast friends and eventually lovers. They are planning to run away together to another town in the countryside on Rino's 16th birthday.

Day 3--

"Ah! Got another one!" Sirius shouted excitedly as he reeled his catch in. Though it was a Saturday, and work didn't begin again until Tuesday due to the long weeked, he loved his job too much to even consider going 3 days without it.

This was a big one, and fast too; it put up a good fight. But no fish had ever escaped from Sirius's grasp.

"Don't think ya can get away, ya lil' bastard!" He stood up and began to shuffle backwards, jerking the rod over his shoulder as he went. The battle went on for several minutes and the fish, sensing that it would be no use to struggle any longer, finally gave in. "Ha ha, hell yes! Another fish caught by the mighty Sirius!" He triumphantly threw the fish onto his pile.

I wonder where Rino is, he promised he'd be here by now... and Her Majesty Luna is out of town for the weekend, so he shouldn't be working...ah well.

He picked up his pole and cast the line back into the ocean.

Ri's old enough...he can take care of 'imself.

Name: Sirius Lewis

Age: 18

Rank/occupation: Fisherman

Bio: Sirius is a poor fisherman living on his own. He left his family when he was 14 and came to work in the large city that the story takes place in (no name for it yet...uhuhuhu). He met Rino after Rino knocked over his cart of fish one market day. Though they initially disliked each other, they eventually became good friends.

Sirius is an easy person to get along with, though he can be a bit big-headed and annoying at times.

I keep almost forgetting to do these. :I ah well.

Day 4--

Ettie stood in the mirror, admiring herself in her new dress. She loved the way it swooshed when she turned and, when she stood just right, it seemed to glitter in the moonlight; thinking about how lovelier she would look than everyone else at the ball tonight made her smile.

"Moko!" she called, "Hurry up and start my hair already!"

"Yes, Your Highness!" She could hear her servant scuttling about in the next room, no doubt just remembering that he was supposed to be working and not eating. Ettie sighed. She honestly couldn't understand just what was with that boy and his cakes.

"I don't have all day, you know! We're supposed to be downstairs for the party in half an hour!"

"I'm quite aware, Your Majesty!" This time he spoke with a slightly more biting tone. "And I believe it's you who has to be downstairs in half an hour!"

Huh...wonder what has him so worked up...

Name: Ettie Mills

Age: 15

Rank/occupation: Princess

Bio: Ettie is the princess of The-Town-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named and the next in line for the throne. Though she is very close with her parents, she doesn't have many other friends other than her personal servant, Moko, who she has known since she was little.

Although she can come off and cold and aloof, especially towards other royal families as well as the townspeople, she's not much of a villain. She tries hard to get people to like her, but ultimately fails.

almost forgot AGAIN

Day 5--

Though everyone was still awake, it was completely quiet in the servant's quarters; no one dared speak, in case one of the guards heard. The "no talking after curfew" rule had been in place for as long as any of them could remember and it wasn't changing anytime soon.

They all lay silently, two to a bed. Rino was not particularly happy about his "bunkmate" that night: Moko, "Her Majesty's" (the title was only spoken among the servants with heavy sarcasm) lapdog. Although it was true Rino didn't exactly get along with everyone, he especially disliked Moko. Luckily, the feeling was mutual.

Their beds were not huge--only about 5 feet in length and 3 in width--and they were even less comfortable.

"Figures...our lovely masters can afford to have feasts every other night, yet they buy us beds that are little more than straw and wood," Rino though bitterly.

It was cold and damp as well, especially during the early Spring months. Occasionally, they were allowed to keep a small fire burning in the middle of room during Winter, but it was not enough to keep them from shivering.

Rino shifted slightly on his mat. There was no way he could possibly get comfortable. Really, the only advantage to sleeping with Moko was that he was so skinny (despite the fact that he ate more and better than any of the other servants) and didn't take up much room.

He sighed softly to himself.

Only 2 more days...then it'll just be Noelle and I, sleeping under the stars every night.

Day 6--

The fishermen filed into their respective boats, organized perfectly, as usual. One marched up to the front of the boat and began peering over the railing at the sea.

"Looks like a great day for fishin'! We'll have no trouble meeting our quota today!" Sirius called out to his coworkers.

Although he hadn't been there for as long as some of the other fishermen, Sirius was already one of the best and most productive workers there.

Though that might change quickly if these goddamn fish don't start coming in.

---

"Okay, men, let's see what we got! Pull up the net!" The net slowly began to drift up, tugged along by the metal pulleys attached to either end of it. No one on the boat spoke; they were too busy watching the net in rapt, almost fearful, attention.

It was almost there.

5 more seconds.

4...3...2...1.

It pulled up, full to the bursting with fish.

Cheers broke out across the ship. They were so loud, Sirius wondered if they could be heard from the shore.

Aw, who cares. We got fish! We've got money!

a/n: sucky chapter (if you could call it that) is sucky. :I Need more inspiration...
