Resided in Darkness- 30 days.

Posted

I'm writing a winter story(Winter vacation) And I wanted to see how you guys think it's turning out. I've started this yesterday and I'm trying to work hard on day 1. There will be more than 30 days, as the story suggests. You'll find the beginning a little similar the Birth By Sleep, bu the story will be very different and original. ^^

Resided in Darkness

Prologue

Isn't it hard to make choices between people you love? My name is Kin, I'm 18 years old, I have short black hair and blue eyes. My favorite color is blue and my favorite stone is the amethyst. I figured it would be a blue stone, but the amethyst is just amazing. So many things I value about it...

Since I was little, I was abandoned by my parents. They probably weren't ready to take me in, and I hate them for that, but it's perfectly understandable, they are idiots.

Since then, I was found by a kind adult man, he claims to have no name, so we call him “Pops”. It kinda just felt like it was a good nickname for him.

Oh of course, I must explain. I didn't live alone with him. He also picked up all abandoned children he found, and took in children that parents handed in to him. He let everyone for adoption. Everyone but me, and two other boys.

As we grew together, in the small mansion we called world, we began to know each other better.

The younger boy, only about 12 when I was still about 17, was nicknamed as Nick. I wanted to chose a name that resembled mine, since I got to chance to pick it. So I thought Nick backwards would sound like Kin, and the other way around. It was pretty perfect.

I don't remember who picked my name, but I knew I'd never have a true name. My parents most likely didn't chose it.

This younger boy was blond with slightly spiky hair, which resembled somehow, sand. His blue eyes and clear skin fit perfectly and aways gave him a bright and positive look, although as he is human, he had many sad moments and even went through depression.

The other boy was about my age, a few weeks younger, maybe. He had short black hair, tanned skin, and brown eyes.

When this boy was younger, before he even came in, he probably hurt himself, but never talked about it. He has a few scars around his body, but the most noticeable one is right under his eye.

Apparently, he lived many years with his parents, until he was about 10. Then, his mother and father got divorced, and started ignoring him completely. They didn't feed him, help him, give him medicine, or take care of him. His mother became a prostitute, and his father died in a horrible accident, which he never got into detail.

He decided to run away, as he couldn't stand that life anymore. I felt bad for him, I really did. His name was Jake. Nick picked the name. He thought it was a nice nickname, and he had given his favorite Teddy Bear the name Jake.

DAY 1- All alone

Kin walked down the mansion's wide and cold hallways. She wore small, tight, black boots, very tight jeans, a blue shirt and an opened black jacket. She looked around the walls, which had tall, white, and ancient-looking pillars. She wanted to stay there for ever, although she knew she was going to leave soon. Her 18th birthday was soon to come, and Pops had made it clear he was only going to keep people until they were adults. 30 days to go, then she would have to leave.

“I'm gonna make this time last. I should make it the best I can.” She whispered to herself. “...Why let me go...? Most people would like freedom, but this is how I want to be. With them.”

She touched the white walls softly with the tip of fer fingers. “I shouldn't be sad. I should be... Happy, but...” She was interrupted by a voice shouting for her. “Kin!” Jake ran in her direction, from ahead of her. “Kin, hurry up for breakfast! You don't want to be late!” He struggled to breathe. He wore jeans and a blue jacket.

“Oh, Jake, hum...” She thought carefully about her words. “I'm sorry, but you didn't need to come all this way, I... I'm going for a walk today. I'll meet you at lunch.” Jake looked at her as he always did, with a friendly smile. “Oh. Alright then. See ya.” He replied, disappointed. Kin slowly continued walking, with her small smile becoming a sad one. “Wait!” She turned around. Jake was blushing a little. “Hu- Hum, can I... go with you?” He asked, a bit shy.

“Oh, sure! You can ask Nick to come too, if you want.” She replied with a smile. “Nah,” he answered “He's already eating, let's not interrupt him, you know how he gets!” Kin giggled a little “Heh, alright, alright.” she replied, still giggling. “Then let's go quickly, before he starts wondering where we are, haha!”

The two walked slowly in the gardens outside the mansion. It was really a wonderful sight. There were walls blocking view of outside and it was way to high for anyone to even think of trying to climb over.

“Hey, Kin.” Jake started. “Hm, what is it?” She asked.

“...Don't forget, our birthdays are next month. We both turn 18 almost at the same time.”

“Of course, I would never forget. We should be spending more time with Nick. He'll be all alone, soon.” Kin replied.

“Well, Pops'll probably take in new people for adoption, right?” Jake asked.

“I don't think so. He kept us three for a reason. He wanted to make it last for a long time. And Nick, he's only 13. Pops doesn't want to adopt any more kids. He stopped taking in new kids a while ago, and he gave away everyone but us. Nick will have to leave, but it'll be at least 5 years until he does, and Pops... He's very sick, Jake...” Jake stopped walking, with Kin taking a few steps ahead. She stopped as soon as she noticed he wasn't next to her, and turned around.

“He's dying, isn't he?” Jake asked. Kin gasped. “Don't say such a thing! Pops isn't that sick... Who told you that-” “I heard him on the phone, Kin!” Jake interrupted. Kin stopped, with wide eyes, and stared into his. “...What? What was he saying over the phone...?” Kin asked, quietly.

They heard a few steps, and behind them, was Nick. “So I'll be completely alone?” He asked. He was still in his Pajamas. “No, of course not!” Stated Kin. “He'll be alri-” “No. He's going to die within this year. His doctor said so, over the phone. He's like, 90, damn it!” Jake replied.

“Jake, stop!” Ordered Kin. “We're going to make this the best time we have, while we can. Promise me we won't talk about this anymore! Please!” She was serious. She didn't want to talk about this. It was a horrible subject.

“...Alright.” Jake agreed. “You're right, we have to make this the best time we have. For all of us. Right, Nick?”

“Yeah...” Nick seemed confused. “Let's make this the best month we ever had here. Why don't we go to the Hill once more?” Nick suggested.

“Huh, the Hill? Oh, you mean the one where we watch the sun set on special days?” Kin asked.

“Yeah, that one. How about we go there every day this month?”

“But Nick!” Kin giggled. “It's only 7 in the morning!” Jake interrupted her. “Well the sun is rising, it's almost the same thing, right?” He suggested.

“Alright, then!” Kin said. “Let's go fast then, before the sun already rises!”

The three friends ran through the maze-like gardens. It was beautiful. Colorful flowers, and bright green grass, shined even on the break of dawn. It was a beautiful sight, which they saw every day.

Kin looked at the sky. It was still a bit dark, a bit blue, but a grasp of light could be seen in the horizon.

The clouds were lined, almost if made just for her. She loved the way they were shaped that morning. Nick ran, almost running out of breath at every step, but not stopping for a second. After all, it was his idea to go there. He wouldn't give it up for anything.

Jake kept running, also pretty tired, but he was not thinking of giving up. Although, Kin didn't let any bit of negativity take over her, and just smiled as she ran, giggling at how she was faster than her friends, but in a friendly other than mean way.

They reached the Hill. It was protected by a small white fence, with a little door for the top of the small mountain. They walked up on it, just to catch the beautiful sight of the sun rising. They set down, one next to another, and rested, taking deep breaths for a few seconds.

“It's beautiful how the light makes the colors so vivid...” Kin stated. “I don't know, Kin. Colors don't matter much to me!” Nick stated. “I'm with Nick. After all, they're just colors. We see them every day...” Jake agreed.

“You boneheads! Try to see the bright side of life, will you?” Kin joked. “Oh, so life's a color now?” Jake smiled, and Nick laughed. The wind howled coldly in their faces, forcing them to close their eyes for a moment. “The sun's getting brighter. Maybe we should go back.” Nick stated. “He's right, Kin, the sun's right in front of us, after all...” Jake agreed. “Jake, are you Nick's minion, or something? All you've been doing is agreeing with him, lately!” Kin smiled.

“Wah- No, that's not it! It's just... He says stuff before me!”

The three friends laughed. As they walked back to the mansion, they were greeted by the old man.

“Where were you three today? You barely had any breakfast!” The old man nagged.

“Sorry, Pops.” Kin said. “We just wanted to enjoy the day, that's all. It was a beautiful morning, I wish you were there to see it!”

“Hm. I see. I understand perfectly. Very well, enjoy your childhoods.” Pops seemed depressed. “You three, tomorrow, we're taking visitors. They're great friends of mine. They'll stay with us until Kin and Jake's departure. They will leave then, but please take them in warmly.”

“Of course, Pops!” The three said at once. “Good. Then have a good afternoon.” He replied, formally.
