A Tale of Darkness
What is it that defines humans? Is it their capacity of ratiocinating? Or could it be their ability to develop and create? No, humans aren’t defined only by these simple characteristics. Each human’s capacity and abilities are different, their appearance is not patronized, neither is their personality. So, what could it be that defines humans? Feelings, feelings that every one of them possesses, wrath, fear, love, lust, many are known even by them. And one more important thing that cannot be forgotten, one that all of the living humans fear, they shiver on the simple mention of its name, cower before its power, death is their ruler. The only and one destiny that all of them share, poor or rich, saint or pagan, all of them are destined to fall to death.
Death is the one fear that can put on his knees that bravest of knights and make beg the most proud of kings. Still it wasn’t enough to stop a group of simple men that decided to defy all the rules that life imposed on them, to defy their destiny. These men achieved their goal, surpassed death itself and obtained power that no mortal can imagine, but the price was too high. For breaking the law of life they were exiled to an arid land, far away from the world of men, a place where no human can enter and from where none shall escape. There a new race was born, so similar to human kind and yet so different. Feared by their antecessors as messengers of death and misfortune they were called demons, a simple word to designate those whose lives had no purpose any longer, but whose power was just too great to be extinguished.
It was not long until humans gained knowledge of these new forms of life whose existence was doomed. At first sight they panicked, it was as though such beings would be able to destroy their entire society. After the fear lessened and calm regained its realm between the humans a new idea appeared. It was necessary to be prepared, they said. It sounded so simple, but how can one protect himself from the messengers of death? No one knew the answer; however, it was still too early to give in.
More and more ideas appeared, the kings of men offered prizes for any who could develop a weapon capable of defending them from this unseen enemy. And, surprisingly, it existed. Magic was what they called it, a way to manipulate surrounding energy at will. At first humans would volunteer to have a kind of device implanted on their fragile bodies, a device that allowed them to control such energies. Just like the humans, Mother Nature didn’t lose time, in a few decades newborn children had no need of said device, their bodies had been adapted to support magic, now nothing could go wrong.
This way the exiled demons were further and further away from humans, from their part there was nothing either one of them could do, humans waited for several years, hundreds, thousands, not one sign of menace appeared. The world was engulfed in war at last, but not against the beings of darkness of which they had been trying to defend, but against their selves, and once again came peace. Nothing happened, the existence of demons was forgotten, magic was now just another part of the human being. The story of men who surpassed even the shadow of death was not told in either song or tale or rhymes, it was forgotten, thrown into oblivion.
However, all of this was before, before one of the darkness carelessly crossed the line that had kept them apart for decades. However, will humanity be able to face this new race or will it cower in its mention once again? This is where this tale of darkness begins.
Demons: Beings who were once human but were punished by forces being normal understanding, their bodies are very similar to human’s, however, their skin tends to be quite pale (not white, pale skin like any normal human would have, they’re not vampires) since in their exile sun was quite a rare sight. A crystal is stored in these being’s bodies, each crystal containing a kind of energy that the demons can use at free will, the crystals are called Hears. Humans have no knowledge of either demons or their called Hearts. Magic and Humans: This kind of magic is not supposed to have the same meaning as the word, it’s manipulation of energy, humans cannot manipulate all kinds of energy at once (it would be godmodding and impossible) they just manipulate what they’re able to, each one in their proper manner. REMEMBER, energy is not only electricity.
I can't escape this
Feeling inside burns me up
I can't erase it
Have I gone mad on my own
Why can't I face this
Hurry up, I'm lost without
Some kind of placement
Something real in my life
So change it
And make me forget
