So to start things off, for those who don't know what Gallifreyan is, it's the language of the Time Lords from Doctor Who. It consists mostly of circular letters and symbols that are connected by links.
Now, there isn't an official dictionary for Gallifreyan, since there hasn't been enough of it shown in the series. People have been making their own fan dictionaries, and I've stumbled across one of them! Gallifreyan can be very pretty depending on how much work you put into the translations. The only hard thing about translating is that since the dictionary isn't complete, there are words missing. So when you come across a word that you don't have, you either have to substitute or combine other words together.
So I've been working on making my own translations using Greencrook from tumblr's dictionary. I'll be posting my images here, so those who are interested are free to look! I'll also be posting little notes about certain words along with the images. Some of these pictures might be in spoilers if it's too big.
For my first translation I did Kairi's poem to Sora from the end of Kingdom Hearts 2:
"Thinking of you, wherever you are. We pray for our sorrows to end, and hope that our hearts will blend. Now I will step forward to realize this wish. And who knows: starting a new journey may not be so hard, or maybe it has already begun. There are many worlds, and they share the same sky - one sky, one destiny."
The translation:
Now this was actually quite difficult to translate, mostly because the dictionary doesn't have the words I needed. So I had to make do with what I had. If you want a literal translation of what it says, here it is:
Thinking often of you anywhere you go. We dream for our despair to die, and foresee that our loves will touch. Now I will rise up to see this dream. Who knows? Starting a new life might not be unfair, unless it has already begun. There are many universes, but they all share a sky. One hero, one peaceful ending.
For some words like "destiny" I had to combine to words, so I used death (end) and (peace) since that's what I'm hoping kh3 will bring, a peaceful ending.
Also, I didn't want to repeat "sky" again, so I used "hero" towards the end since that's what Sora is -- a hero.
I think the translation fits well, though there are some things that I think are off, such as some verbs aren't put in the right tense. I'm still trying to figure out how to do that @_@
But yeah, this image overall took around.... 11-12 hours to complete. I used Gimp to make it, so it took a lot longer than it would've by hand, but the circles were A LOT neater. So I was happy with the outcome (:
